Pattaya Nightlife Faces Strain Amid Changing Demographics

Featured Replies

This is very simple. No one vacations in or retires in India. There's a very good reason for this too.

People do vacation and retire in Thailand, lots of people.

So what do you think happens when half of Pattaya is suddenly Indian?  People have made their preference clear and isn't Indians.

calling out a simple demographic observation as "racist" is the real low blow here — he said 70% Indian, 10–20% Chinese tour groups (bright hats, flags = standard package tours, not slurs). That’s fac

Here are rough approximate ranges of the yearly average exchange rate of 1 USD to Thai Baht (THB) from 2007 to 2025, based on available monthly and annual data:

  • 2007: ~ 30–31 THB per USD
  • 2008: ~ 33–35 THB per USD
  • 2009: ~ 34–35 THB per USD
  • 2010: ~ 30 THB per USD
  • 2011: ~ 30–31 THB per USD
  • 2012: ~ 31–32 THB per USD
  • 2013: ~ 32 THB per USD (rough)
  • 2014: ~ 32–33 THB per USD
  • 2015: ~ 34–36 THB per USD
  • 2016: (data less clear) roughly in the low‑30s THB per USD
  • 2017: ~ 32–34 THB per USD
  • 2018: ~ 31–33 THB per USD
  • 2019‑2020: ~ 31 THB per USD (2020 ~31.3 THB)
  • 2021: ~ 32 THB per USD
  • 2022: ~ 35 THB per USD
  • 2023: ~ 34–35 THB per USD
  • 2024: ~ 35 THB per USD
  • 2025: So far in 2025 the average is ~ 33 THB per USD (data partial)

So in summary:

Typical range over that period has been **~ 30 to ~ 36 THB per 1 USD**.

You refer to several short-term rate spikes and seem to think that this somehow disproves my initial claim. Clearly, it does not.

Well, you claimed in the last 20 years, then reduced it to 18 years, and even made more false claim to make you boat float.

You call this short term peaks?

It's changing because the younger generation are not into paying for sex and also the party scene is much different expectations now

It's a generational change

The younger generation are not participating in sex at all, period (full-stop, for the Pommes). The blokes are too busy in their Mum's basement playing video games, and the self-entitled girls (including the fat ones) are all doing Only Fans and consequently wonder why they (including the skinny ones) aren't Marriage Material for conservative minded hard-working males that want a family.

Hence the imminent Western birth rate of zero dot far call percent.

On a positive note, the client base in Walking Street tonight was significantly more Caucasian than the last six months, but with a ratio 15 (or more) girls to one customer, it doesn't bode well for the late 2025 rice crop cashflow. :coffee1:

I do not think this is the reason. I think the GenZ that go there would pay if the prices were reasonable. But the costs exceed that of paying for a woman the same in a city like Los Vegas. 100 bucks or more for a girl then another 50 or more for the bar fine. Then also, the women do not give the GF experience they used to. For many it is a strictly financial transaction with no feeling at all.

I do not think the demographics are what is changing Pattaya or the tourist base arriving there. It has more to do with the Thai attitude and the violence in the news there as well os the cost to be there. Only the hotels are reasonable now with their rates.

Well, when you go down a Pattaya beach somewhere and you see this or them cooking and sleeping on the beach to avoid hotel room costs... well, hardly surprising people are giving it a miss. And that's before 10 of them want to tag-team a bar girl for a shared 1000 baht, haha... the Thais are probably getting annoyed with it to.

I will take the Indians any day over Aussie louts and bogans

There are some very nice Aussies in Isaan.

What's a singlet.

Lower social class Indians are terrible sex tourists. Thats the bottom line.

I only get to see them in Bangkok. They act and smell like trash.

Im not going to denigrate all Indians as Americans of Indian descent are one of the backbones of our country. But they are Americans and know how to act and behave.

When you put folks whose first experience of a toilet in a room is in a cheap hotel in Thailand, who dont know what a pair of socks are, who showers once a month and is 35 and never got laid...well....

PS how many here think it is declassee to jump into a public pool in your underwear without showering?

Hardly the same as your initial claim which was:

The Thai baht has been moving in the range of 31–35 per U.S. dollar for the last twenty years

Written as fact with nothing rough, approximate or averaged about it, but good effort all the same.

I tend to think that it's that interweb thing.  Before the interweb, if you wanted to be shocked and amazed, you had to show up in person.  Nowadays, you can be shocked and amazed while never leaving your basement.

And no matter how good Pattaya may (or may not) be, there's always some influencer making somewhere else look better.  Even if that takes hours of video editing.
