PHUKET: The Phuket Provincial Health Office (PPHO) Chief has defended the lack of information made available at the mandatory daily coronavirus situation updates, saying Phuket officials are under orders from Bangkok to restrict the information being made available to the public.

The explanation by PPHO Chief Thanit Sermkaew to The Phuket News today (Feb 17) follows weeks of silence on how many people in Phuket have been put under observation on suspicion that they may be infected – or even what happened to the 10 people who were last reported on Jan 31 as under observation at hospitals in Phuket on suspected of being infected with virus.

Chief Thani today even declined to confirm which passengers are being screened at Phuket International Airport for elevated body temperature.

Thailand should be listed right next to China on a list of places where only essential travel is recommended.

If they don't inform the public with honest accurate updates then they are creating a false and dangerous message that there is no problem in Thailand - A grave error

If there is a serious outbreak in Thailand then the public need to be aware of it so they can increase protective measures they need to take.

If Thailand continues on a course of telling people lies or not being open and honest about the state of the situation here - they will regret it, for all we know right now the situation could be as bad as China but Thailand are saying everything is fine

The WHO need to get directly involved and tell these very stupid people just what could happen if they continue on this course

So the government, realizing that they haven’t the know how to deal with mass spread of Corvid-19 have chosen to keep vital information from the public to avoid panic and a drop in tourist numbers. We’ll probably only know how bad it is when we start seeing people mourning the loss of loved ones from pneumonia on Facebook. Martial law will be implemented, and Prayut (army) will take the roll as savior.

You assume that this isn't the WHOs idea?

They let the ( eventually ) contaminated chinese into Thailand without imposing restrictions on them . For the money that they bring , they endanger Thailand's population and the tourists from other countries .

Than , they will not publish the actual cases of Covid 19 in Thailand out of fear that more tourists would stay away , means less money ...

How can someone respect a government that behaves like this ? Irresponsible behavior that would lead to demonstrations against the government if it would happen in a more advanced society ...

No virus, no road death, no violence, clean beaches - Phuket utopia continues

Another reason why this government has got to go

Maybe many more people are infected with it than is published. I have two friends who have both gone down with pneumonia in the past two weeks. It is highly likely that it is not connected with Covid-19, but they were never tested, so we will never know.

We are very lucky to have social media nowadays, so if that does happen then we will know. Maybe not so many people will die from Covid-19 here as they do in China, but if there is a spike in flu related deaths then maybe something is being covered up.

The "Chinese dictatorship" is far more open and transparent than what we've got here.

No, it is not "communism", it's totalitarian control, which does not depend on economic system

Possibly the stupidest post that I have ever read here.

They can not find prostitution in Pattaya. So how can they find this?

is there a difference between lying and simply not talking about the truth.

try to remember this. In the USA, 220 people die every day of the flu. This is 4 to 5 times the world averge. did you do the math? Yes, it is 80,000 a year and that number is increasing year over year. GOP and Trump do nothing about it.

The only thing under control is the truth !

Yes of course they are lying and of course nobody's wearing a mask as required under threat of deportation. I'll be wearing mine today however as 2.5 PM air pollution numbers are thru the roof! Another day in Paradise...

The government itself admitted that at the start of the outbreak that there were thousands of tourists from Wuhan and Hubei in Thailand. It seems extremely unlikely that not a single one of them had been infected. The official numbers are just the usual cover-up, they're terrified of the effect on what's left of the tourism industry if the truth came out.

Surely by deliberately withholding information they are in fact guilty of promulgating false information about the true state of affairs and in so doing placing the nation at risk of harm.  They are knowingly promulgating 'false information ' and should be immediately be referred to the 'false information ' war room.

Idiots.

Maybe someone with a backbone could run that by the constitutional court?

Bangkok officials are withholding information from the public..

if there's no outbreak then what are they "holding back"??

They can't respond with "were holding back nothing for the publics protection" ??

No matter how you look at it:::

Its either more lies from the Thai Government, or its another cover up.

Keep the people in the dark and feed them B/S.

Thailand is just not able to organize an open and transparent and helpful to everyone overview, they should look at Singapore... Easy to identify where to stay away from...

They even made a live map: https://sgwuhan.xose.net/

I think Singapore is an example of transparency and efficiency.

Day by day the cases and deaths rise in China.

Its stands to reason that Thailand and its popularity with Chinese tourists is going to show similar results.

Suppose we are privileged to get some news.

My thai is not in the least bit interested in it.

Come to think about it,  the locals are not in the least bit interested in anything that the government says, full stop...

Looks like everyone is playing pinball with a deaf dumb and blind kid at WHO HQ along with the entire Thai government then????

Is this even LEGAL? Is it in keeping with WHO rules on pan epidemic treatment?
