Best Cheap New Car 500-750k

Featured Replies

Looking for something easy to drive around the city. Will buy new from the showroom. I saw a few in this price range - Toyota Yaris, Vios, Honda City, Brio Amaze and the Nissan Almera. I'm leaning toward the Yaris. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Come on DR, you see the OP’s requirement. I suppose if someone asks where to find a nice 20 year old girl, you would offer him a nice used model around 45ish....????

Just curious Sheryl - why have you a preference for manual transmission?     Given Thailand’s traffic, a manual is something I’ve always avoided here, although I can see how a manual is

I think anything Toyota is solid.  Plus, they have dealerships in case of repairs all over.

The Almera I thought was lousy and powerless.

The new Almera has now got a turbocharged engine..and we'll worth a look ????

The Mazda 2 Sport is a nice city car with a very good quality interior. The Suzuki Swift is fun to drive.

The Yaris looks ugly inside with too much cheap hard plastic - in my eyes.

Boring old Honda City. they just plod on forever. Or a Swift if your younger.

That same money could buy a better car if you choose to go used.

Agreed, if not looking to finance and just dropping 5-750k on a car then picking one up which is second hand, perhaps 1 to 2 years old would secure a far better car as the car has had its greatest hit of depreciation already.

Op could be looking at 2019 Honda Civic, 2019 Toyota C-HR, 2019 Mazda 3, Mazda CX-3, also plenty of pick-ups in that price range.

I'm planning to buy soon and have settled on Honda Jazz. Would have opted for City as first choice but none available with manual transmission which is what I want.

Given Thailand’s traffic, a manual is something I’ve always avoided here, although I can see how a manual is more preferable if living in a hilly area.

am a Mazda lover thus Mazda 2 for city is perfect, easy handling enough power to get you out (or into) trouble

Mazda 2 in that price range is the pick of the bunch.

Agree with the Mazda 2. Ours has been great over the last few years and a decent size.

I agree, our Vios (680K) is a marvellous little car.  Very comfortable and reliable, even good for longer journeys.  I would buy it again, which is always a good sign.

On most objective criteria (performance, noise, comfort), the honda city beats most ecocars (perhaps except the almera for fuel consumption and its safety gizmos.).

I would either choose the city or opt for a honda accord that is a few years old - they are in the 800-900K range and a significant step up from the eco cars.

Which of your stated options do you like?

I have always bought and currently buy, auto's and bikes for one reason only. I like(d) them.

Some may concur with my choice and others may not.

I could care less?

Without questioning their motives, the personal preference of others is purely anecdotal. Yet their reasoning is worth consideration.

Buy the cheapest with less electronic as possible to avoid future problems. Everything else is ridiculous, choosing between a cheap low level car and another one has no interest for anybody not totally insane, they all are krap anyway. Also do not listen to people who are proud to know nothing and tell to buy second hand. Buy new the cheapest, it is enough for what you have to do, and whatever, they are just japanese cars, no need to spend more. Toyota, Mazad, Honda, any local idiot can fix them, no need to look for any official garage that are not better anyway, they employ the same staff as the local outdoor garage. So funny that people are talking about these "cars" as if there could be any problem to service them anywhere even in deep Esaan.

New Honda City has 3 cylinder Turbo engine which has been used in civic in europe for a while now, very peppy reliable and just released in Thailand. this would be my choice.

We bought a Honda City one year ago. Very pleased with this. Very cheap to run, suprisingly spacious inside (especially the boot), nippy when you want it, and easy to maintain and clean. Only thing is that it's a little boring at times. But hey, it's only a car!

Sounds like  he fell of his Barstool to me.

Go to the Auctions   Union Auctions   they give them away there

You could grab a brand new Nissan March for 400k and pocket 100-350k.

750k, you could almost buy one and a spare.

I'm pretty old and crabby but I like the Swift too

I love my Mazda CX3 SP but am thinking of buying my daughter a Mazda 2, basic model for less than half the price.
