Popular Post webfact Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Over 90% of Thai people want a total ban on foreign arrivals Over 90% of respondents to a recent opinion poll fear the prospect of the second wave of COVID-19 infections and they want a complete ban on foreign arrivals in Thailand, according to a Suan Dusit Poll The poll gauged the opinions of 1,459 people, between July 14th and 18th, about their concerns over the possibility of a second COVID-19 outbreak, following two incidents last week. One concerned Egyptian military mission members breaking self-confinement rules and the other involved a Sudanese diplomatic family, staying at a condominium instead of state quarantine facility, with one member of the family infected by the virus. The poll shows 52.23% of the respondents are very concerned about the two incidents and 39.68% are quite concerned, while the rest are not concerned at all. On the question of how to prevent a second wave of infections, 94.51% want the Government to forbid all foreigners from entering Thailand, 86.41% suggest stringent screening processes, 83.80% say people must wear face masks and regularly wash their hands, 81.40% suggest the Government keeps people updated about the pandemic and 76.73% want free access to COVID-19 tests. Popular Post Thaiwrath Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 94.45% are most concerned about losing their jobs, Obviously, not many of the massive number of 1,459 people questioned in the poll, were from the millions who have, rather sadly, already lost their jobs. 84 3 2 15 1
Popular Post Sambotte Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Looks terribly stupid. Looks like brainwashing and fear works beyond expectation. But 5% thinking brains is probably the common world percentage. 56 2 1 10 3
Popular Post Kadilo Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Can’t expect anything else when they are getting totally brainwashed on a daily basis. Even some of the foreigners who are living In Thailand are spouting the same scaremongering nonsense. Maybe it’s gonna take a while to sink in the severity of the situation the country is heading for before they begin to wise up. Thaiand can not survive on its own. 83 1 1 12 1
Popular Post richard_smith237 Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Thai’s are not this stupid. One has to wonder how ‘loaded’ the questions in the poll were... i.e. Should we allow foreigners in from countries with high covid numbers? or should we allow the risk of foreigners bring in covid? etc 61 1 6

Popular Post mstevens Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 And this is precisely the reason, rightly or wrongly, Thailand's borders will stay closed for some time to come. For those of us outside the country who would like to visit, it's going to be a long wait. For those of us whose life / house / family is in Thailand, returning from abroad is going to be a bureaucratic, expensive and painful process. 38 6 1

Surely they don't understand the implications of banning foreigners to the country, 20% of GDP plus all the Baht given to Thai people/girls/families support for those families which is not part of GDP, which must add up 100s of millions of Baht or do the Thai people want to go back to the 1960s and make a living from the land. 31 5 2

Popular Post Mops59 Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Forbid all foreigners? Does.that mean Thai people who are registered living abroad with a foreign spouse too? Because they are foreigners too. Does it mean that all foreigners with property in Thailand who stay about 5 months a year in Thailand, go eat at restaurants, play golf, shop in expensive shopping malls, make trips with taxis and so on. Are.they not welcome anymore? Those.who sponsored and.delivered food packages to poor people and jobless people because of this crisis. People with retirement visas can not.come? Why? We like to be in Thailand. We help Thai people who are close. Make difference where needed. If you want to loose us please do keep rejecting our entrance into Thailand. We will spend our money somewhere else and let the government take care of you. I do hope the big moguls want to spend this kind of money. 10 1 3
Popular Post mtls2005 Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Funny how when people express an opinion or a preference, and it runs counter to their own narrative, some immediately assume it's a result of "brainwashing". 9 1 1

Popular Post Greg O Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Just spent a nice weekend in bkk with the family at a 5 star hotel on Sukhumvit. Great price , good food etc but no one there. Not enough customers to ever sustain the cost of operations so the overall feeling was scary to see just how bad it is for business and the employees since everywhere we went is short staffed and their services cut back to a minimum. Also visited a couple of other hotels for happy hour at the roof top bars. Same scenario, very few customers and short staffed but glad to be working. Not sustainable...Going to see more places re closing if this continues. 8 1 1
Popular Post Boomer6969 Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Makes perfect sense. Form a public health point of you. The economy and workforce will suffer, but the rebound will be spectacular once the crisis is over. And the Thais have the capacity to live off rice, various critters and snakes for a couple of years. 5 7
Popular Post rocket3rider Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Was sitting here reading this in Sydney and asked myself if I would like to ban overseas visitors from coming to Sydney. Of course I would. At least while covid is active and there is no vaccine. The attitude is not confined to Thais. 14 1 5 1

Not long I’d imagine. Last Friday I was on a busy BTS where everyone was wearing a mask correctly. I walked from Phrom Pong to Asoke and the only people I saw without masks were two westerners. I was happily surprised. Right now I’m ok with keeping the borders closed. It’s protecting the country for the long term, Not looking at short term gains. 7 1 2

Popular Post Antonymous Posted July 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 20, 2020 I roll my eyes every time I see the sensationalist headlines from the 'results' of yet another bogus poll conducted in Thailand. This one is no exception. We are not informed about the questions that were asked, so cannot determine bias. We don't know how the respondents were selected. We never see a table of all the statistical results, so cannot determine if the writer has cherry picked, or misinterpreted the results. We don't know who paid for the research and how they influenced it. In most cases these polls in Thailand are simply propaganda tools. As for the reporting in this case I note the following quoted directly from the article: "On the question of how to prevent a second wave of infections, 94.51% want the Government to forbid all foreigners from entering Thailand ... "In order to ease public concerns ... 33.43% want a total ban on foreign arrivals". So which is it? 10 1 3 4

Next one the girlfriend took the ticket up to the Taxiand told him where to go, as soon as I got inside the driver started asking 20 questions. Where you from? You finish quarantine? Why you come as tourist to visit now with Covid. Had to show the stupid git my pink id card before he would believe I had not just come into the country.
