There are ZERO foreign tourists in Pattaya.

Well that's not true, Two of them are renting the house opposite me!

During the Pattaya lockdown back in April, the mayor said that there were 2,500 foreign tourists still in the city. Some of them will have made their way home, but definitely not all of them.

wonder if the visa laws will become more favorable, nah that would be too logical......

Yes it would help if they rolled back announcement of foreign embassies approval of monthly income of 65000 baht for 1 year extension for Retirement Visa instead of as now "In case of income, a letter from your embassy in Thailand verifying your monthly income; or should your embassy  not issue an income letter, you will provide a 12-month bank statement showing a regular deposit of 65,000 baht into a Thai bank account" ⁉️⁉️

Now is the time that the government and tourism industry needs to step in and take control of reinventing itself for the tourists with money and unfortunately at this time it is not the bar flies.

The money is in the family industry.  Finding a cheap but enjoyable place for a family to travel from let's say Australia then you are looking at adding.

Yes you can have the bar girls and the bars.  Just move them away from the beach.

Right now there are many places that the bar flies can go to that are not on beach road.

Burn down walking street and rebuild it into family parks and water parks and such.  That will bring people.  Yes the beach can still have the girls but restricted to where and when.

"Ekkasit Ngamphichet said it would be at least 4 to 5 years before tourism in Pattaya returns to previous levels."

Shhh - don't let TAT hear you saying things like that, or unsavoury things might happen!

Gives them plenty of time to fix all the problems there , to many to mention .

Should the headline then read ""10 YEARS"????

He said that operators in the tourism sector needed to be ready for a long haul to recovery that would be four to five years.

World class family resort, resembles a total mess, plenty of time to straighten out the place, including the power poles, not exactly a welcoming sight !

They could dock the intended new submarines there...at least the navy lads might be interested, Ha.

Seriously though there is no magic wand appearing to ease the situation so there is no point in Thailand looking for one. Many people around the world talked of 'new normal'...well maybe this it what it looks like for Thailand.

I went to a Thai ceremony over the w/e and was talking to a Thai Vocational College teacher. The teacher was upset with being denied extra funding in the typing/business section while tourism/hotel related education was expanded...to get ready for an influx of tourist next year. Sounded like TAT thinking to me.

I doubt anyone will read my response   but here it goes anyway.

A tourist comes to one of these Quarentine Hotel/Resorts.  Confined to the hotel and perhaps the grounds,  Perhaps the local surrounding village.  During the Quarentine stay the guest can come in contact with Staff and Local Vendors.  Also during the Quarentine stay the guest comes into contact with guests who arrived previous  and guests that came later.  During that time if the guest transmits the virus to a previous guest and the previous guest completes the quarentine period and tests negative (but has been infected and not showing virus during testing).  That guest would move on and unknowingly start infecting people that the guest comes into contact with.  The same continues with the guest who at the end of the quarentine period come into  contact with a newly quarentined tourist and contracts the virus passes the final covid test and proceeds on to vacationing in Thailand  unknowingly transmitting the virus he acquired in the last stage of quarentine.

The world can live without Thailand. But, can Thailand live without the world? Are there any lessons to be learned here? Pipat? Anutin? Prayuth? Anyone home?

Give them time, they will become the submarine hub of the world!

Most tourists would be jobless right now. They are saving their money for food and their family matter. I don’t think that they will come to Thailand for tour soon. Most of them will be on tour in their own country and avoid Thailand, especially when it comes to the immigration policy and travel bubble requirements.

I really don't see it ever getting back to what it was. When they eventually let the tourist back in and the price gouging starts all over again , the poor customer service, the overcharging for food and drinks and lack of planning for a sustainable tourism industry thats doesn't grid locked every road and speed boats on every bit of spare bit of beach sand, people will realize that Pattaya isn't what they remember it to be.
