Cancelled elections is a non sequtor.  Neither Lincoln nor Trump did that.

The example that I have of an action called for by CNN which would have caused Trump to be called a dictator was implementing a nationwide lockdown.

Actually, the non-sequitur was raising the whole martial law issue.

And I googled "CNN calls for a nationwide lockdown". Nothing came up. I'm sure you wouldn't just make things up twice in the same thread.  Care to share a link with us?

CNN often weaved it into their narratives to explain why Europe was seemingly going better at containing the virus.  Here's an example of an appeal to authority that they made alng those lines:

There aren't enough crazy MAGA types to start this type of violence.  A few yes, but not enough to start anything serious.

it's not violence, it's a people power sitin, which forces the authorities to disperse it thru violence.. that is what the red shirt/yellowshirt thing is

Take it up with SCOTUS, it was their decision not mine.

Deflection. You used the word pretext, not SCOTUS.

Barrett said during the Senate confirmation hearings her religious beliefs would not influence her judicial decisions. Another liar.

"Along those lines" Really? That article what's called reporting on what others said.. Not an opinion.

Shut down the country and start over to contain Covid-19, US medical experts urge political leaders

More than 150 prominent US medical experts, scientists, teachers, nurses and others have signed a letter urging political leaders to shut down the country and start over to contain the surging coronavirus pandemic.

"The best thing for the nation is not to reopen as quickly as possible, it's to save as many lives as possible," they wrote in the document, which was sent Thursday to the Trump administration, leading members of Congress and state governors.
"Right now, we are on a path to lose more than 200,000 American lives by November 1st. Yet, in many states people can drink in bars, get a haircut, eat inside a restaurant, get a tattoo, get a massage, and do myriad other normal, pleasant, but non-essential activities."

What's more, they didn't call on Trump to unilaterally shut down the country, did they?

Yes, shutting down the country for eight to twelve weeks is far and away the best way to stop the epidemic.  In three months it could be nearly eradicated as it is in China, S. Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, etc.   Even if the vaccines work as expected it will be a year before most Americans can be vaccinated.  The daily death toll is currently in the one to two thousand range and expected to increase.

However, in the US shutting down the country would require Congress to allocate several trillion dollars to compensate families, businesses, and state and local governments who will otherwise go bankrupt.  Mitch McConnell will never pass such a bill, because what he wants most is for the Biden administration to fail.

Unfortunately, Biden has already announced that there will be no national shutdown, which is very bad news.

Australia and New Zealand are the envy of the world in terms of getting control of coronavirus. Biden has already contacted the Prime Minister of Australia for input as to how to replicate that success.

Trump has done one thing right. The Warp Speed program will have vaccines up and running much faster than normal . Having said that, his arrant stupidity in opposing the wearing of masks, and holding petri dish political rallies, means he should get out of the way as soon as possible.

Too late, I'm afraid. America now has such a reservoir of community cases the pandemic will have to run its course. The success of Australia and New Zealand was due to a complete shutdown of foreign arrivals. Support programs for those unemployed have also been successful, although that's probably too socialist a concept for Americans to stomach.

Completely and dangerously false.  First of all, there is no such thing as "run its course" with Covid-19, at least not so far.  Secondly, China stopped the virus dead in Wuhan, the epicenter, in eight weeks.  The lockdown in China and in Melbourne for that matter was quite severe.  People were not allowed to go out of their houses except for limited purposes and even then only for very limited periods of time.   If you do that then there are no more "community cases" after the lockdown period.

Obviously speaking as one that isn't in NZ.

There was no "complete shutdown of foreign arrivals" A film crew arrived from California to make the sequel to Avatar. The arrival prompted some unfavourable comments about the government at the time.

New Zealanders living abroad have been returning, which is much the same as foreign arrivals. Been several breaches of quarantine too.

Look it up.   It had nothing to do with the election, but Lincoln suspended habeas corpus in 1963.  Also, if you're not just pretending to be ignorant of history, look up "Copperheads" and read some of the things that the newspapers in New York were saying about Lincoln at the time.  It wasn't until after his death that Lincoln developed the image of a saint.

The most obvious example of what would have caused Trump to be called a dictator would be if he had ordered a nationwide quarantine. That would have been called martial law and unless he did it concurrently with the Congress declaring war on someone it would have been an unconstitutional order.

He had been dead a long time then in 1963. JFK entertain him?

If a militia is not recognized as one it's just a bunch of guys with guns.  A bunch of potential vigilantes that could be a public menace.

When they take action, you get stuff like this

The True Story of the Antifa Invasion of Forks, Washington

DT gets Secret Service protection the rest of his life -- they all do.  I suspect he's going to try to dismiss them, as he doesn't want witnesses for whatever he's up to next ("Biden is spying on me!).  If he starts getting criminal indictments would the Service become his captors?

Actually, President Elect Biden will replace trump on Jan 20th, 2021, at which point the SDNY and other prosecutors' offices will go for the reject with everything they have. Expect to see him in a courtroom and later in an orange jumpsuit before the end of next year. Happy days!

It's been sad days for the US since trump was elected. After he got rejected thing are much improving and when the grownup have moved into the WH even better days are ahead.

The election loser in an orange jumpsuit would be icing on the cake.

Very soon. I have noticed a distinct reduction in trump articles just in the last week. I'm quite sure many news sources are intentionally reducing their attention simply because it is no longer due. He's just another fading celebrity whose views are inconsequential.

I still read some, like is topic, out of curiosity about where his mental disorders will lead him. Some people prefer to follow the Kardashians, maybe a healthier choice.

Very true, although he still gets some coverage:

It is a refreshing change to see him admitting that he may follow the law of the land. I suspect though that it's just his dementia kicking in and by next week he will claim he never said it.

In either case it it will not alter the change of administration. Thankfully he can't change the Constitution with a Presidential Order.

I think you meant orange man in orange jumpsuit.

Maybe he can produce a reality show about life behind bars. How long before he has tattoos on his butt and wearing lipstick?
