Yes of course.

Bali Hai luxury hotel and casino would be a huge draw for the city.

Near WS, and day trips to Koh Larn.

Perfect place to build one.

No, every casino I have entered seemed to have a jaded kind of sad clientele wishing and hoping for that win, gaudy flashing lights appearance, a noisy environment and a general aura of sleaziness.

I lost a £1 in a fruit machine 1973....never gambled since.....and yes despair and poverty mean it must be controlled.... ie non-Thais only (which you could argue is immoral) and run by the government (main problem there is it is a Thai government).

The lottery in the UK (not quite the same thing) does provide huge funding for projects... I guess you could argue these should be the responsibility of a government.......but in Thailand's case these funds will come from the Chinese.....and go to poor Thais (5555....in theory)

Maybe the question should be: Should there only be legal casinos in Pattaya instead of the illegal casinos? And what rules will those legal casinos follow? And who will enforce the rules? And who would make sure there are no illegal casinos for the desperate anymore?

As long as the Thai police is the way it is not much will change. And who will reform the police?

Not if, just when.

Thailand is targeting Chinese tourists, and they love to gamble.

It's crazy not to offer this activity in the year 2021.

I am missing the option "don't care" in the possible answers.

You've obviously not been to Sihanoukville to see how casinos, Chinese casinos, changed the area.

Do you live in Pattaya?

Yes, and I like the idea of free entrance for foreign passport holders and a 3000 baht entrance fee for Thais.

The Chinese devastated Sihanoukville with their 70 odd "legal" casinos, and many more illegal casinos.

I would not like Pattaya to go down that path, but surely there is room for 2 or 3 casinos here.

With dancing fairies and elves!

This is somewhat a loaded question as Pattaya already has many casinos.....????????????????????????????

A casino in an already world class family resort? What do the kids do while mum and dad gamble away the family savings???

Drown in the waterpark?

I lived in Nevada where gambling is legal. Its great for the economy on one hand, but causes a huge amount of family problems!

Legalizing it here would be devastating to so many people! For some people it is an addiction and they can't stop until everything is gone!

I think casinos are coming and have thought that for a long time. The Covid shutdown has brought the topic into the open politically so I am interested to know what the general feeling is among forum members.

Finally, most importantly, there is huge investment from China in the city and money talks here. The Chinese want casinos so it will surely happen, in my view. Whether Pattaya will be a better place with casinos will depend on how they are regulated and managed; 2 as yet unknowns. Lessons should be learned from Singapore, Macao and Sihanoukville.

In summary, I think casinos will be a driver for Pattaya's post Covid economic recovery.

"run by the government." you mean The unelected "PM" and his crew???? They will just spend most of their time sitting round tables and making up stupid rules, then the next day, sitting round that same table and changing them, and so it will go on.

There are casino's in Vietnam and it works fine, Only non Vietnamese allowed in, foreigners only.
