webfact Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Two killed, several injured after ‘drunk’ foreigner crashes into motorcyclists in Hua Hin At least two people have been killed and several people injured when a foreigner driving a pickup truck at high speed crashed into motorcyclists in Hua Hin. The horrific accident took place in Khao Takiab at around 5pm on Thursday. A witness who was on the scene moments after the crash occurred told Thaivisa two people had been killed. According to another witness, the white Ford Ranger pick up truck was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control, mounted the central reservation and collided with a number of motorcyclists before coming to standstill after crashing into a wall on the opposite side of the road. Images shared to social media showed multiple people receiving treatment on the roadside and four ambulances in attendance at the scene. The injured were rushed to Hua Hin hospital for further treatment. What central reservation , cant see any in the video unless it was further back up the road . Maybe more cctv can show what actually happened . Is it possible some idiot on a motorbike pulled out in front of to go the wrong way which they do all the time . If indeed he was drunk and caused the accident then throw the book at him . 6 1
Popular Post Antonymous Posted January 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2021 If drunk, unforgivable. If negligent driving, unforgivable. May have been a sudden medical condition. Very sad indeed, needs thorough investigation. A tragedy, whatever the cause and it certainly won't help the good reputation of foreigners. 7 1

NCC1701A Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 It was a scene of chaos yesterday as I was coming home. Ambulance staging area transfering bodies, I counted five ambulances. I did not see the accident but it was clear the truck driver just plowed into the scooters at speed. 1 2 2

I don't care that he's in Thailand and other Thais can get away with it. I wonder if he can be prosecuted back in his own country for this, just like pedos do. 7 3 1

Another one also in a Benz in Chiang mai or rai a few years back. If you google in Thai you will find over 50 examples of foreigners killing Thais on the road because of speeding, drunk or both. To my knowledge they always buy themselves out of jail. 3 1 1
4MyEgo Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 The heading said "drunk" but nothing in the article to repeat that ? The driver is clearly in the wrong, innocent lives lost and if drunk, should get life in prison. RIP 2

Imagine in court. Why did you do it? I saw the Thais do it, so I wanted to copy them. I think the rationale is more its not punished hard here and often people get away with drinking and driving by bribing a cop. So if Thais can do it why can't we. Not how i think but some of the foreigners love the easier alcohol laws to be irresponsible themselves. I am all for people getting drunk and high whatever should all be allowed. Just not if you drive a car or bother people. I think drinking and driving should be the same as murder. (same goes for being high and killing someone). Drinking and driving should just be punished harshly. 6

It shows the dependance of the local farangs to alcohol. Do you really think that with such a high dependency not many would drink and drive. There are even more then a few people on the forum who admit to it. Quoting things like bad public transportation or high price of taxi (i mean if you can drink you can pay a taxi) Totally irresponsible. 8 1 3

No it doesn't, just because this tool caused a drunken accident doesn't mean we are all the same. Perhaps you don't drink so put us all in the same bracket...Very naughty...???? 6 1 4 1
Popular Post Chooky Posted January 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2021 I see the reckless driving all the time there is definitely an increase in alcohol related and sorry to offend anyone each to their own flavour but these Rangers and other large pick ups..not the ones with the used trays and farmers but the shiny ones never had a leaf in the back let alone a shopping bag..why ? they are too large for suburban streets, you can't see over them in a sedan especially when pulled beside you or close to the curb I thought we were supposed to be decreasing our environmental footprint. At least make them a special licence.2 smaller sedans in an accident is bad enough being hit by one of these is called a jigsaw. All my opinion only I just see more of these vehicles in accident probably because more around and I hate seeing unnecessary carnage and death.A car is a privilege not a weapon! 3 1 1

If there is a large group of alcohol dependent farangs (see the beer ban topics). Then its only normal that a subset of those would drink and drive. That does not mean that everyone who hates the beer ban is a person that drinks and drives. 3 7 1

Nothing against people who have a beer, drink all you want, I got the same opinion about alcohol as drugs. Use all you want when you want as long as you don't bother or endanger other people. Drinking and driving (or getting high and driving) different story. But you really don't seem to understand that in a group of drug users or alcohol users (basically the same as both are drugs) there will always be idiots that put their convenience first and the lives of others second. Those are the people i dislike does not matter what drug when your under the influence you should not operate a vehicle. 10

No need to invent more. Indeed, his blood will be tested at the hospital to settle this. He didn't look drunk from the photos I saw but who does, with all bars currently closed and restaurants not selling alcohol, this guy looked like someone who was driving home from work or from shopping during the afternoon. The photos I saw showed a few of the dead and injured and a relatively young (compared to the retirees) white guy receiving first aid at the roadside - this may have been the driver but who knows. They say he was drunk because lots of people on facebook in Thai said 'farang drive too fast, they're very bad and like to drink lots' - that's all the evidence they had as of last night. I really would not jump to conclusions on this case. Something clearly went wrong as he ploughed right through them, personally I suspect it's more of a case of driver distraction, perhaps through phone usage or vehicle failure. I notice the hang him high brigade who know zero about this case already have him convicted - remember - if you ever have an accident your case will be reported as the drunk farang even if you, like many of those who never drink alcohol were involved in the accident. It wouldn't matter if you've never drank a drop of alcohol in your life - everything said here would be said about you. Wait for the facts. My mothers power steering once completely failed whilst driving and she veered off the correct course on the road - luckily there was no other traffic - impossible in Thailand of course? 10 2
Popular Post JeffersLos Posted January 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2021 How quickly death can come. The 2 people on the scooter innocently riding along the road, and then in a split second an oncoming pickup truck simply smashes into them without warning. 5 1
Popular Post poohy Posted January 29, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 29, 2021 Seems hes been convicted by most already If hes drunk and its proved or he was driving dangerously to cause the accident of course hes guilty and deserves the appropriate punishment. But there could other reasons e.g vehicle malfunction health issue I certainly dont know and neither does anyone on here. And lastly in closing just because you complain about no beer days does not mean you a dangerous drunk driving maniac 2 1
