BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has offered himself up as the first person in Thailand to take the Sinovac vaccine to boost public confidence.

Meanwhile, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the Covid-19 vaccine is a sensitive issue and needs to be thoroughly explained to the public. He added that the vaccine management team is under a lot of pressure in relation to this issue.

The minister also assured that the first lot of vaccines would arrive in Thailand on Wednesday as Sinovac vaccine-maker sent him a picture to confirm that the first lot of Covid-19 vaccine for Thailand would arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport on February 24.

He said the vaccine will be dispatched on a regular basis until April when the 2 million doses ordered by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization are completed.

  • That would be great, Prayut takes the first dose then gets incapacitated by it and is then replaced by 1 of his cardboard cut outs, as 1 of them would be as much use as he is.

  • After the jab he will get a new stick on badge with I'm a brave little soldier on it ????

My guess, there will be a covid relief cash handout linked to evidence of vaccination - be a sudden surge for it then

Jumping the queue just to prove a point.

I can see the entire government getting injected before any of the others have a look in.

Good look to them and don't say you haven't been warned.

Best get someone without a headful of toys on the case then ..

Maybe this brand is better than the one given out in the US? ????

The question is: why is it necessary to increase public confidence through spectacularization in front of the cameras?

think about it

Why exactly is the C19 Vaccine a sensitive issue.

Its really quite simple.

A Vaccine is needed to Vaccinate the People of Thailand to help prevent the spread of C19.

There is nothing to explain when there are no Vaccines available to the Public.

The only explaination that is needed, is why there are no Vaccines, and why there will be insufficient Vaccines for many more Months yet, when the rest of the World are well into Vaccine programs of their Citizens.

Would it be in extremely bad taste to wish for him to have an adverse reaction to his jab, a friend wants to know........

No not at all.

In fact if he keeled over and croaked, it would be a sign that justice had been done.

Sadly it won't happen though.

he is simply copying the current slowly expanding world trend of showing Leaders getting it...   below is typical example of that... (OZ PM below)

Just paying homage to his Chinese masters!

Prayuth may just find a useful role after these years: guinea pig.

Vaccines work or not: a win for the country.

Here he is again kissing up to the Chinese.  Let him take it because I sure don't want it.

Think you mean there will suddenly appear a new medal on every generals chest - the covid-19 war medal or some such nonsense

Hoping all of them take it in a group inoculation-fest and it goes horribly wrong. Thailand can finally move on! :partytime2:

Wow a picture ! Easily impressed ????

I can send him some pictures of things I have for sale if he is interested. A big wall in China , a statue in New York and a metal tower in Paris !

Same as other countries have done. However, how do we know it is not simply a saline solution. I would not trust any politician, ( or general ), anywhere in the World.

I believe that he would be ineligible to receive this vaccine in Thailand because of his age.

Yes but other World leaders have done so in order to encourage their people to also take the vaccine.

With only 200k doses that's hardly going to be the case in Thailand until they have enough but when will that be.
This is more a pr stunt to claim they have started to vaccinate the population which they haven't really and probably VIP's MP's and Civil servants will get it before the elderly.

unlike the other vax, sinovac is not for seniors.

it was tested on a controlled group up to 59 years old, so approved only to that age limit.

Possibly it can be given for healthy seniors, but than not much point of vaccinating them - it's the unhealthy which need it most.

Anyway, those 200k is not enough even for medical personel, and it has to be boosted in 2 weeks.

But I bet, that the ministry of health will grab some for themselves and the government officials.

I do also think that they have already ordered some other vax through embassies, diplomatic and the other channels. Possibly in december, when vax programs started to be rolled out. It's just matter of price, and they have all money.

Now, they well might be promoting sinovac, because they are uncertain when really astrazeneca will be available. Those 150k emergency order in nowhere and  is not know, if local production has started already. There are contradictory statements. And worrying is, they won't allow journalist to visit siam bioscience factory to confirm to the public.
