No curfews, but then there is nothing now open Between 11pm and 4am, so why would anyone really be out and about.  No gatherings, no bars, no late night munchies, so in essence a pseudo curfew.  This

The MFA spokesman also addressed an issue involving international schools in Thailand, and how the government's new ban on meetings/gatherings of more than 50 people would affect seasonal test administrations of students given by the various schools.... The MFA spokesman said government health officials were aware of the issue and would consider such cases on a case by case basis.

However, provincial governors have been given the power to authorise curfews if the situation in their province worsens.

AkA passing the buck. Let someone else make the unpopular call.

Yes a Pseudo Curfew.  Gas stations are the other issue as many have convenience stores attached to them, and this would create a travel dilemma for those who travel at night like we do starting at midnight for most trips.  Only have to avoid the drunks and trucks with no rear lights is all.

It is possible that maybe they just close the convenience store.

Of course this forces the same number of shoppers to go shopping in a reduced number of hours which will increase crowds in the stores, also those who finish work at 11pm won't be able to buy things on the way home - they didn't think this one out very much did they?

if everything is closed between 11pm and 4am it will just be more crowded between 4am and 11pm ??

What % of daily foot traffic occurs between 11pm and 4am - 10%, 20% ?

On the odd occasion I have been to convenience stores in the wee hours, I would hardly describe it as bustling. There's normally more street dogs gathered around the doors enjoying the free aircon than actual customers. I am sure those affected can be accommodated in the other 19 available hours without too much bother.

You might be saying - what's the bloody point then ? Well, I see it as another move by alcohol obsessed authorities to discourage late night drinking/parties and get you home to your bed.

probably the most concerning part of the thread

so the list above is the minimum, wait for Buriram to ban alcohol for 2 months again

When governers were given individual authority last year they went down like dominoes, no reason to expect them not to do exactly the same this time.

or perhaps an envelope by envelope basis

Wonder how you get gas if your traveling between 11pm and 4am.

Try a gas station???

that's why I don't like travelling at night. And don't forget the motorbikes without rear light. Have to focus much more then  at daytime

Same with all the banks, because they now have reduced opening hours.

I wonder which genius came up with this idea?

  • All bars, pubs, karaoke and entertainment venues closed
  • Restaurants must close by 9pm, no alcohol can be served
  • Restaurants can offer takeaway until 11pm
  • Shopping malls must close by 9pm
  • Convenience stores/supermarkets must close from 11pm to 4am
  • Schools and educational institutions closed
  • Events with more than 50 attendees not allowed
  • Amusement parks closed
  • Children’s play areas in malls closed
  • Gyms and fitness centres must close by 9pm

The only thing missing here compared to the lockdown last year is "curfew"

It is a "lockdown" - call it something else if you want

I'll take a stab at that, the same genius that was promoting travel at Songkran?

The new measures come into effect on 00:01 on Sunday until the 30 April 2021.

so 14 days has already been extended by another 7 days

I fully expect that to be extended further, the last one lasted 3 months and was not even close to current known infections

I wonder what the "R" rate is in Thailand right now, something they will never disclose - maths doesn't lie

An R value of 1 means that on average every person who is infected will infect 1 other person, meaning the total number of infections is stable. If R is 2, on average, each infected person infects 2 people

I guess inter provincial travel from/to red zones will not happend without quarantene?

Incorrect.

Unless a particular provincial governor decides otherwise..... and that would be self-isolation not quarantine.

It doesn't matter because they can't enforce it anyway.

And if I did that the gf would kill me-but then I wouldn't have to worry about Covid.

Here we go again..... And how many more times in the future,... You can see the benefits of vaccination in other Countries in the World, so why is Thailand still dragging its feet when it comes to vaccinating the population...

Is there anyone who could give a logical explanation for all of this doing what is the relation to the virus?

Confirmed 100,000 cases a day in about 3 weeks by the look of it ????

Thai PM says no lockdowns or curfews yet

Screen-Shot-2564-04-16-at-21.41.37.jpg

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha assured today (Friday) that the government will not yet impose lockdowns or curfews in order to contain the COVID-19 spread, adding that he felt the pain every time such restrictions were imposed in the past, because they hurt a lot of people, especially low income, grassroots people.

Speaking to the media, after chairing a meeting of the CCSA this afternoon, the prime minister asked people not to panic about lockdowns or a curfew, noting that the restrictions were imposed before because they were deemed necessary at the time, despite their impacts on the economy.

In the end, he said, Thailand managed to control the first wave of COVID-19 and won worldwide praise for the achievement. For the current outbreak, he admitted that he cannot make a decision without taking into consideration the repercussions on the people and has to listen to the diverse views of all stakeholders.

just like the EU they dropped the ball

now so far behind it will take months to catch up

they won't spend the money

it is unbelievable that they are bragging about 500k vaccines given so far this year - only another 140m to go

there are also questions concerning the China vaccine - how many in government got the Chinese jab ?, they seemed to avoid it like a plague - only for the peasants it seems and very few so far

only have to look at Brazil right now and even China are questioning their own vaccine efficacy

The country was stuck with a second-tier vaccine.

“I always said this vaccine was water with sugar,” one Brazilian commented beneath a story in conservative media.

It required a 3 month lockdown to make this 'great achievement'.

Why should this year be any different.

Buckle up!

Complacency and ignorance is the route cause for this latest spread of the virus  now being out of control. A non acceptance of the urgent measures that were required 3/4 weeks ago to halt that spread is utter ignorance. Like all military men in Thailand he had an overinflated opinion of  his capabilities but I didn't at the time put him in the league of the Burmese Generals and thought the spread was hastened deliberately, no he just couldn't grasp the issue through ignorance. However as to whether there are other major figures in this country who have opposing views is open to discussion I guess.

Utter moral corruption appears to be one of the causes for the spread from the Thong Lor clubs, government ministers who can't keep their d**k in their pants who thought they were untouchable. No different though from governments before them and given the moral standards they live by, nothing will change after them.

I am not a moralist and as far as I am concerned these clubs when run legally offer many things not least employment along with the many thousands of Karaoke places out in the villages that provide similar services to the Thais there. Now due to the PM's incompetence and fundamental lack of understanding many normal Thais, the real backbone of this nation,  look forward to unemployment and certainly where I live, a real fear that their friends and relatives are now in danger of catching this virus, a far greater fear exists now than was the case last year.  These people understood only to well that lockdowns are the only way to stop the spread, just like last year. They are now asking the question why not this year ?

What an odd statement.
Anyone would think our illustrious leader had been elected by the population and he was showing responsibility.

Weird.

So the illustrious leader says no lockdown or curfew, leaving it up to local governors.

That is clearly a case of passing the buck, oh people dont blame me, it was your governor who did it, pathetic lack of leadership.
