I have my reasons as to why this is the BEST Songkran I have ever experienced in the last 15 years of my stay in Thailand.

 

1. I did not have to make a trip to the local hospital because some drunk Farang threw a bucket of water with chunks of ice in it at me as I drove past and crashed. ????????????

 

2.  I did not have to make a trip to the local hospital because some drunk Farang threw some dirty ice water in my face and eyes and got an eye infection.....????????????

 

3.  I did not have to buy a new mobile phone because some drunk Farang threw a bucket of water with ice chunks in it and soaked my phone. ????????????????

 

4. I did not have make an extra trip back to my home because some drunk Farang threw a bucket of dirt water with ice chunks in it all over me and the rest of the poor folks sitting in a Baht Bus. ????????????????????

 

Life is so much simpler and enjoyable, even with the Covid -19 <deleted>, when you exclude the drunk Farang from the equation......????????????????????????????????

 

Let the trend continue for many years to come......woo, woo......????????????????????????????

 

P.S. I live in Pattaya, so that might take the shine off of the Songkran activities, but have done the Songkran thing in Bangkok as well. ????

So  its reasonable to say you dont like farangs ?   especially  drunk ones.    You dont wear a brown or green uniform per chance???

I agree, this year and last year have been the best Songkran's for me. Enjoyed it immensely.

 

Also agree, it is always a drunk farang idiot that spoils it.

One has to wonder why you ever moved to a country with festivities you do not approve of?

Songkran is a very divisive holiday. I personally can't stand it, but I don't throw shade at those who like it. There are 24 hour grocery stores and Macro opens at 6:00 a.m., so stocking up on necessities is easily done, then stay home, have a few cold ones, and let the partiers have their fun.

Its not the festivities we dont approve of, its a great time and most of us do it every year and have a great time.

Its the drunken farang idiots we have issue with, throwing water at people on motor bikes, little old lady pushing a noodle cart, spaying eyes and ears etc, There is a huge difference between spaying water on other people taking part, and bringing down a 20 year old nurse going to work on a motorbike. I had to go to hospital one year because a farang hit my eye from 6 inches away, with a high powered PVC pipe gun.

No shade or water thrown.....just stating the facts....like it or don’t read it....????????????????????

I miss it in our village it was good fun to watch sat having a beer and having a laugh with kids throwing water was fun too.

There's lot of miserable long term old gits and living in a place like Pattaya where many foreigners go to join in and get drunk on holiday why they are surprised I find weird.

There were a few good things about Songkran in Pattaya.

 

The mad day where I live I can join in or pass as I please. I was seriously hacked off though by the bar on my way home that for 10 days solid had blathered farangs throwing ice cubes and water at every passing vehicle or pedestrian. They were a busy place for the 10 days of Songkram but struggling for custom the rest of the year. Hacking off customers and potential customers has its consequences. I would never give them my custom and I am sure many others were the same. Covid has finished them off and it's good riddance to bad rubbish as far as I'm concerned.

There is a name for farangs like you as well. 

The objections to Songkran in Pattaya are that it lasts too long and is impossible to avoid. 

In Bangkok it lasts 3 days and the worst of it is not too difficult to ignore. Many places are the same, in some it only lasts a day. 

Sounds like every Songkran for me... 

 

but i would not ride a motorbike when people are throwing water at me...

I remember when Songkran in Pattaya was only the one day, the 19th, and there was just as much whinging about that, as there is nowadays.

 

All the usual suspects, Bad Farangs, Dirty Water, Ice, Dangerous, Can't dress well when I go out at night ... and on and on it goes.

 

Most seem to be smokers for some reason.

He explained it very well in the OP and in a couple of follow-up comments in which he gave more examples. Read again. The recklessness of some can ruin it for others, and cause injuries. Did you find enjoyment in the incident of the young nurse crashing on her way to work? 

All it takes is a little preparation, street sense and common sense to avoid the listed complaints.

Yeah, I once went a full morning avoiding all that and a damned kid with a bucket got me on the way home...... hiding round a bend. 

Why can't people Enjoy songkran without having to intentionally hurt people or violate their wishes...Is it that hard when someone says don't throw water at them to not do it...is it that hard to sprinkle water on people passing instead of throwing ice water as hard as you can and try and knock them off their motorbike. The answer is of course YES it is too hard...It's like people here think that Songkran gives them the right to hurt people and abuse people....it doesn't!

Sorry but you are dreaming. 

Stay away from the tourist areas and you will find Songkran a different experience.

the Thais usually respect us old farts and will seldom through water at us.  it's the idiots from my own country  and other Western lands that behave like louts and who are not  respectful.
