Thirty one provinces in Thailand are now issuing fines for anyone who fails to wear a face mask when leaving their home.

77 provinces should already be getting tough with non-mask wearers.

As I have been led to believe, vaccination only minimises the effects of the virus on that person. They can still be contagous so should still wear a mask if talking directly to someone less than 2 metres from them.

Yes, because it is a fake vaccine ????

Real vaccines stop you getting a "disease".

Why would you need to wear a face mask while driving.

In a car your windows is the face mask.

On a m/c your helmet visor is a face mask.

And  if  stopped  by the Police I would  not  wind my window down.

Which is one of the many reasons why I walk in the fresh air and sunshine every morning without a mask and will continue to do so no matter what. It's also the main reason why they would never get me into one of those 'field hospital' pens.

A treatise I read on the Spanish Flu pandemic noted that those who stayed out in fresh air were less susceptible and/or recovered much quicker than those who were confined.

I believe this to be one of the main reasons why Covid has not made many inroads into the Thai countryside. I'm very hopeful that the same will be true this time around.

I wear a mask all the time unless I am at home. Sometimes a bit uncomfortable, and I have no idea how effective mask-wearing is, but it seems to me to be the smart thing to do in today's circumstances.

If you're living in an urban area it makes sense. In our small village around half of the residents are wearing them. I don't wear one when I'm doing my exercise walk, but I do if I visit the local shop or go into town.

My wife mentioned this morning about the 20K fine, but strangely, our province doesn't appear on the list.  Crossed wires again?

Frankly, I can't be bothered to plough through the pages of responses on this topic. That said, of seems to me that a major issue, is failing to wear the mask CORRECTLY!

Sorry to hear that you cannot afford a 10 baht mask. Maybe you can start a go fund me site.

I cannot believe the stupidity that someone (aka the government) is going to make money from masks when they are so cheap and some Tessabanns give them away for free.

I've been using the same mask throughout, and it was free.

But I've never worn it withing the village walls, the gate guards don't wear masks either.

MaeJo was almost deserted this afternoon, and there's an 8pm curfew apparently.

Two observations:
1.  Enforceability.  My guess is that this will be extremely difficult to enforce anywhere but in the central cities within each province and about impossible in the rural areas as their are few police and the police that are here are part of the villages. And village people don't normally get in other villagers faces.  Some villagers will wear mask, many will not.  I expect enforcement to be selective at best.
2. Ability to pay.  Unless they plan to built bigger prisons and throw those who can not pay 20,000 THB into jail, well, you can't bleed a rock.  Which brings me back to "I expect enforcement to be selective."

I understand the enforced use of mask if people are in close proximity.  For someone working in a rice field or in the open?
It's asinine.

The list of provinces enforcing the rules was updated on Saturday (24 April) by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

...by the TAT?
Quiet obviously this is aimed directly at foreigners.  The average Thai barely makes 20,000 THB a month.  But, hey!  Change my mind.

from today also nonthaburi, bangkok nothern outskirts.

also curfew 21pm to 4am.

The micro-tyrants come out of the closet again with ฿฿฿ Baht-signs in their eyes.  The problem being that they just got too greedy.  You can not bleed a rock.  Many Thais will not wear masks so how do they plan to extract 20,000 out of most maskless Thais?  They should make it 1000 THB.  They'd make more money as they will never collect 20,000 THB from most Thais.  They'll just start throwing otherwise good citizens into jail.
This "emergency" is never going away again and the micro-tyrants will continue to flex their new-found powers to be repressive in the name of _____________ (fill in the blank).

Yeah but this restriction may just be more targeting as says outside. How they interpret it is up to them. Personally I would never wear a mask while running.

He should rather equip this gang with both face masks and handcuffs

Fines were introduced  last year too...and no not when running though most  mask dodgers  can barely  limp let alone run!

It's probably  not 20k.Anyway Peer group pressure  enforces masks too..and a sense of social responsibility and a desire to protect yourself and other people. Only a few idiots are vehemently  opposed  to masks and make an issue of it...

Kanchanaburi (only at markets, flea markets and floating markets)

They seem to have misunderstod the seriousness of the pandemic there.  If they had any sense they would have closed all markets and mandated mask wearing in publich everywhere.  Kanchanaburi only has a handful of ICU beds for the whole province.  They will be very quickly overwhelmed.  Better to be safe than sorry.

don't understand, WHY THIS IS NOT on a country level ?  do we still about to find a safe corner somewhere ?
