Covid-19 spokesman Dr Opas Kankawinpong of the CDC said that the next two or three days and the next week would be crucial in determining which way the pandemic would go.

For Bangkok and surrounding areas, Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chonburi and now Korat the next few days would inform whether more regulations will need to be introduced.

For the rest of the country the next week would be key.

He drew comparisons with previous waves of the pandemic noting that the current wave was faster spreading and resulted in more lung infections perhaps caused by the prevalence of the so-called English variant, reported Daily News

More infections were being seen at both government and private company workplaces with people eating together and meeting up as well as taking it to their families responsible for the uptick in infections.

He warned that with lung infections prevalent the aged and young people who are obese were more at risk along with those suffering from conditions like heart disease and diabetes.

He called for people to keep up the safety protocols.

He would not be overly drawn on reports that infection had been caused by an event attended by justice minister Somsak Thepsutin.

Regarding reports that a woman had died because a hospital bed was not available he said there should be an investigation before he would comment.

And then, they come out and say: let's wait and see how it goes in a few days or so, but let's not do anything in the meantime... And then, you have the PM clown doing his daily speeches saying everything is under control and that he is confident the economy will skyrocket again. And then, you have TAT coming up every now and then with the most ridiculous schemes and figures that make no sense whatsoever, like half the world will visit Thailand this year, or better next month when the virus has disappeared and we have a 150% growth in the economy!

We officially have a full circus in effect!

Ringling Brothers, Barnum &Bailey circus.  In the center ring we have PM Prayut juggling the nation, and in the 2nd ring we have Minister Anutin trying his best to shadow box Covid-19 vaccines.  While in the 3rd ring its.....well wait a minute Where's Prawit, he has been absent for quite awhile....

with daily jump 800 positives things can go only one way.

not for days, but for weeks, possibly months.

Already at the end of march there were opinions that this wave will last till July or even September, till enough people get vax

This ALL could've been stopped so easily, and so many of us knew how to do it. It was so freaking simple

The clowns at the top have have 15 months to implement a strategy and what do we have? Central World closing a couple hours earlier and no gogo bars.

Utterly ridiculous and would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.

Sincerely

Oh it could never be that one of the ruling parties Ministers or anyone linked to the Junta could ever be responsible for such illegal ill advised behavior.

a little bit too late... last year a few cases and the whole country locked down. Nobody understood. Nowadays 100 times more cases and nothing happens. Nobody understands.

Vaccines which are not effective enough are coming in small  amounts to Thailand. Nobody understands.

Why do they start in June/July with mass vaccinations?? Nobody understands

and so on and so on.....

Why are the Government opposition and coalition parties not in a meeting to discuss the behaviour of Anutin and Prayuth for their incompetent behaviour about this crisis

Very true indeed and as has been said before, a Ringmaster controlling the spectacle

You're forgetting Thailand's heat and humidity...a scorcher in Phuket today. Do you think that's why we only had 10 cases yesterday?

Not a single word uttered by this Guy in his statement has not been said so many times before by other Health Officials around the Globe.

He is like Mr cut and paste, and needs a Holiday

The main reason for low case numbers these days seems to be related to testing and reporting:

  • Discourage testing: Tell people that IF they test positive, they must go into warehouse quarantine on cardboard beds.  If you don't go, you'll face severe penalties (fines/jail).
  • Prevent testing: Tell people going to hospitals that all beds are taken and you won't test anyone until there is space available.
  • Delayed reporting: Reports of new daily infections seem to contain data from 2-3 days earlier, not 1 day.
  • Obfuscated reporting:  Make reporting complex and confused by over-reporting details about each death (when a person first got sick, when they got tested, when they were admitted to a hospital, when they went on a ventilator, a full list of comorbidities....).  I've read articles where 70% of the article carried details of deaths, 20% carried details of "imported" cases, and at the bottom are case numbers.

There are other reasons to be sure, but these are the things I've noticed.

What other methods are used to keep case counts down these days?

At this point instead of gloating and laughing at the lack of planning, I just feel sad that the ordinary people who have so much belief in their leaders have been let down so badly.

They don't believe in their government, hence why there has been so many protests last year. For once, the new generation proved to be the one with guts. But the rest didn't follow and it fell through.

Dr Opas Pokas seems to have displaced Dr google Yong to state the daily obvious  ????

Do not fear. Levels will go down. No mass testing and no more test kits should do it.

SSSssshhh - its a secret.

It would seem the pom flu is here to stay. For a while yet anyways.

At this point I just want to pony up for the vaccine and get on with life.

These "meetings" are behind quite a few outbreaks.

Can't help but bathe in their own self importance regardless of the concequences.

Don’t seem to understand other people. When they get the bad news about the restrictions, they complain can’t go to the bar, can’t drink, can’t go play in Pattaya. When the government does not impose further restrictions, they complain they aren’t doing enough. ????

What does testing have to do with the deaths?

Derrière lickers immunity.

The next 7 days, huh? How about the next 6 months. Talking about arriving late to the party.

Mmmmm? Let's think about that. Mass testing picks up infections then the state can do what they think is approprite. Lock downs, quarantine, contract tracing ect happens. Reduce the numbers of infections and eventually you will bring down the number of deaths. This is logical and unarguable. Do not mass test and you miss positives who have aready or will spread the virus. Greater spread is now happening in Thailand and deaths are rising. This is also to a dgree unarguable other than numbers are being underreported and very little testing is happening.
