Hua Hin wants to welcome foreign tourists from October 1

Hua Hin is gearing up to welcome vaccinated foreign tourists from October 1.

A meeting held on Monday (April 27) saw the formal launch of what tourism chiefs and local officials are calling ‘Hua Hin Recharge’.

The aim is for Hua Hin to be included in Thailand’s reopening plans, with the likes of Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya.

The plans would allow vaccinated foreigners to visit Hua Hin without the need to quarantine in a hotel room.

The proposals are similar to the so-called ‘Sandbox’ plan in Phuket.

Under the proposals discussed on Monday, foreign tourists wishing to travel to Hua Hin will need to show proof they have been vaccinated and will also need to pass a rapid COVID-19 test on arrival.

They will also be required to download the Thailand Plus mobile app in order to facilitate contact tracing. All this will need to be done after landing in Bangkok and before check in at a hotel in Hua Hin.

Thai language news site reported that downtown Hua Hin and Nong Khae district, which includes Khao Takiab, the area where the Holiday Inn is located and further down the  coast past Suan Son, have been earmarked for inclusion in the proposals.

This area covers 86 square kilometers and includes 182 hotels.

While tourists will not be limited to only stay in their hotel rooms, they will be required to only stay in Hua Hin centre or Nong Khae for a minimum of seven days. Once the 7 days is completed, they will be free to travel anywhere in Thailand.

Plans are also being formulated for travel operators to offer packages to other destinations within Thailand. The aim for this is to easily allow tourists to travel to the likes of Pattaya or Phuket after they have completed their 7 days in Hua Hin, and vice versa.

Officials believe that the Hua Hin Recharge plan will bring approximately 100,000 foreign tourists to the resort, from the places such as China, Germany, UK, Japan and Scandinavia.

Hua Hin Recharge would  be worth about  1.2 billion baht to the local economy.

However, fundamental to the plans will be the speed in which tourism workers can be vaccinated.

Banmuang reported that Hua Hin has approximately 89,000 workers in the tourism industry and that a total of 350,000 doses of the vaccine will be needed in order for Hua Hin Recharge to begin on Oct 1.

The aim is to have 70% of Hua Hin’s population vaccinated by the end of September.

The plans for Hua Hin Recharge will be submitted to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration next month.

The whole of Thailand is suffering and should be treated equally.

I agree with you, I have friends that live in Hua Hin and I go and visit them frequently and I live in Bangkok and haven't left Thailand since Feb 2020. So does that mean I can't down there for a weekend to visit my friends unless I quarantine myself for 7 days and get tested? I was just down there 10 days ago just before the restrictions were imposed.

Well that sounds like a flawed plan

Hate to say this but Thailand will be hunting round to purchase vaccine booster jabs before mass un-quarantine tourists return. Stuck in the UK, and getting my 2nd jab later today, I fully expect my autumn covid booster before returning.

Thailand should concentrate on a vaccination programme of the whole country starting with health workers and most vulnerable.  After sufficient That's have been vaccinated plans to reopen for Domestic and Foreign Tourism should be made restricting entertainment venues which most dangerous source of infection

I can only welcome this regardless of their miserable domestic vaccine program ...

I believe they're talking about tourists coming in from abroad. So, no, it doesn't mean that.

Sure hope so, as I too like to visit Huahin somewhat frequently.  But, as usual, the information is clear as mud.

We all know that the jab is the first step. The local Governments are at the mercy of

REALLY big central decision making & business interests on that score, but not the be all end all being touted.

Their local planning is not flawed as the time frame is possible if the jab does come out

quickly.

The opening up not only helps hotels but has a massive downflow effect on many sectors & the supply chains all giving jobs to many

Put out the welcome mat as much as you want... however it's going to be up to the tourist if they want to come somewhere where only a proportion have been inoculated.

And with ganja being able to be grown here legally in each home those pipe dreams will get even better. Wacky baccy and wacky predictions are to stay man. Peace to all brothers and may all dreams be wet ones ????

Yeah, let's have a load of vaccinated tourists helping the economy of a country full of non vaccinated locals, whose government had other priorities rather than looking after their own.

I think it’s a great idea, but don’t forget to charge them 1,000 baht for a Covid test.

Foreigners again?

Who prints this dribble?

Does that mean the million or so per year ( illegal Chinese) from the USA/Canada who have passable passports and Were human trafficked into The west coast of North America starting in the early 2000's?

Would these be the "Foreigners" Hua Hin" would like to have come in on October 1st?

Or did the Governor mean current Chinese Citizens who have a couple of bucks to come for Sexy Tour, and Travel bubbles?

Didn't Hua Hin just have its own outbreak recently? Thats all wrapped up?

How about local residents? Can we come visit the City?

Or our cars, trucks, scooters, motorcycles, boats and jet skis not welcomed in Hua Hin???

Or its only for Foreigners (hopefully law abiding international  tourists) from some where on the planet?

Maybe but at what cost? There are plenty of younger 'long Covid' sufferers around.

100000 tourists and they expect 1.2bn Bt.

12000Bt each?

Going for the real big spenders then....

So they are saying this vaccine is the magic potion, yet still need a test on arrival and stay in hotel for 7 days wake up its not happening

The most dangerous source of infections is the household, immediate family. Not a restaurant, store, hotel.
