BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Private Hospital Association (PHA) expects 5-6 million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to be shipped to Thailand in the second half of this year. They will be offered as a commercial alternative to AstraZeneca and Sinovac.

PHA secretary-general Paiboon Eksaengsri said the association is coordinating with Zuellig Pharma, which is authorized to export the vaccine, after the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) approved the registration of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine last week.

He said the price of Moderna shots will be set by the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), which will procure the supplies for distribution. Recipients will be charged a standard price and service fee for the jabs.

Mr Paiboon insisted that private hospitals will not make a profit from the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

sounded credible, sort of, until this last sentence.

in the age of internet, it takes a few clicks to find the price range of a Moderna ( if any other covid vaccines for that matter).

it isn't the mentioned 3500-4000thb per shot.

to make profit for private hospitals is ok.

to falsify the truth not ok.

I don't think most expats are worried about paying for their vaccine. They want to know if they are even available and if they have been stored properly. Getting a baked and expired vaccine is not going to do you much good.

It is said many times 2 shots for 3000 THB including everything. Than a few days ago the greedy Government raised the prise to 4000 - 4500 THB and now apparantly 3000 a shot?? It seems that there must be an investigation for fake news.

Now it is all Moderna , but how about the Pfizer ?? It is said many times available from June/July, but itis very quiet and nobody talk about it...

Moderna or Pfizer—either one ASAP, please.

Never judge a plan by it's aims or expectation, judge on the actual results.

Difficult to control verbal diarrhea.

Dont complain about the cost of the Moderna vaccine. It is highly effective and at the suggested prices is no more exoensive than the Chinese junk.

I did some research on this group.  Impressive.  They upgraded their cold storage in anticipation of these vaccines arriving last year.  They are a very big organization that's covering all of SE Asia.  If anyone can get this done, it's this group.

Fingers crossed they've been negotiating with Moderna since last year.  I can't find any evidence of confirmation of orders though.  Hmm....

This is the jab I want.  Or Pfizer.

Don't forget the 60 million doses from AZ.  Or the several million from China.  But yes, still a shortage.

6 million doses, why stop there. They will have 50 million doses by that time ⏲️????

Only after Bio S's Astrazeneca plant is up and running for a couple months. That happy story comes first.

Moderna is ramping up production in their US and Europe plants for this year from 600 million to 1.2 billion and target to produce 3 billion next year with additional investments in Singapore and Taiwan.

Good to know that big pharma companies are stepping up to meet this horrible pandemic. I wouldn't grudge them for making good profit if they can save the world.

Meanwhile we still wait for product for any form of mass innocculatin

Wonder how often they will bring the news again.

And "second half" sounds better than "October" (aka fourth quarter) as in the other news.

Besides that: Moderna seems to come up to rank #1 of the choices. Would like to have it.

they are nto allowed to place orders. Many articles on this. Government refused to issue the necessary paperwork and insists that only Government can procure and then hospitals get it from them.

Which s a shame as the procurement mechanisms of the private hospitals is almost certainly faster and more efficient.

More lip service. I expect a few more tyrant governors to bang the gavel and force everyone to jab what the Junta wants you to jab with. Sinojunk but most of all of their big plan AZ.

Their vague reference to the "second half" of the year tells me it's more likely going to be December than July. For all we know, there might not even be a firm order with agreed upon delivery schedule in place yet.

Moderna in maybe November, or at best, a couple of hundred thousand doses at a time arriving come October. For perspective, just look at the deeply empty Zuellig propaganda above. Standard corporate playbook blah blah blah blah = zero content.

Any thoughts on whether those vaccines will be available in Bangkok and Chiang Mai at the same time? I'm guessing due to storage requirements, we'll have them offered in Bangkok exclusively at first?
