Thailand on Tuesday (June 1) reported 2,230 new COVID-19 cases and 38 additional deaths.

● 2,153 new infections
● 77 prison / prison infections

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 162,022 with 1,069 deaths.

The news comes as Thailand's government has reversed a decision by authorities in its capital Bangkok to ease some coronavirus restrictions, as the city battles its worst outbreak of the virus so far.

With today being a "quiet" COVID day at least according to the reported stats, I wanted to advise that I'm going to be bowing out of contributing to our daily COVID updates starting today.

I  believe this to be the correct graph, it's  called the pinnochio  effect.

Forgive me for being suspicious, but that is a very dramatic drop in daily numbers. Did they run out of tests?

Since the numbers are lower today, they might u-turn back again.

The vaccines are working....Lol

Weekend numbers being reported while they gather the prison numbers and cluster numbers from the factories and such.  What is reported daily does not really match everything that gets put out in separate news, but then maybe it is just me not putting 2 and 2 together correctly.

With only 131 death in the US, Thailand have just passed the US in daily covid mortality.  The table have really turned.

Not sure what you're banging on about...US deaths are still about 500 a day (7 day average 638) and just reached 131 yesterday. Thailand's have NEVER been over double digits...never more than 50 in fact.

Yep...they've got a way to go to match Thailand's 1069 deaths. Oh wait...

Let's see what the rest of the week dishes up. This is I think just a dip, community cases again around the 2k and the prison numbers will of course shoot up. Still 38 deaths though. Nevertheless I expect Thailand to be in the top 80 on the covid charts this wk and getting closer to the top 20 in weekly trends. Interestingly there are more global cases in 2021 than there were in 2020 which I guess has a lot to do with India and Brazil.

If they were  made of  hot air everyone would be  cured.

Oho....50% drop in case numbers in 24 hours! That is really something!

Either the truth police are out or they ran out of testing kits. Either option is completely viable.

I've really appreciated all the positive comments and feedback to the efforts to bring some context and better understanding to the day's COVID news over the past six weeks.

But ultimately, it has become too much of a time commitment and interfered with my other obligations...  So, I just wanted to say "thanks" for the experience! And I'll still be posting periodically just as a regular forum member. -- Tallguy!

Sinovac - 6 million doses arrived with only 2 million left. 3 million more ordered for June AstraZeneca - 117,000 arrived and none left. 6 million planned for June. Expected to receive 2 million. After June, 10 million doses for each month.Image

It will be interesting to see what the numbers are like tomorrow.  In many of the US states, the Monday numbers were almost always lower.   This was, in part, due to the lag in getting data done over the weekends, so Monday would often be a significantly lower number of positives and deaths that would be added to Tuesday and that would mean Tuesdays were unusually high.

I am not sure how Thailand handles the reporting.

weekend numbers, run out of tests and run out of vaccines, run out of common sense ..... just name it.. The only way is up....

Seems to be a pattern a new peak then a sudden drop with slow steady rise until the new peak comes along. All the while the mean average increases.

The naming of COVID variants invites another pandemic – of racism

Many Thais were shocked and frustrated at international news reports identifying a “Thai variant” of COVID-19 last week. Among them was Medical Sciences Department director-general Dr. Supakit Sirilak, who said it was unfair to describe the variant as “Thai” since the country had seen only one case – and that was imported.

Meanwhile, the Indian government demanded that social media platforms remove all references to the “Indian variant” of COVID-19, saying the term is not scientifically accurate and damages the country’s image.

Such reactions have nudged many people to dig deeper into how variants are named.

Badly?

What happened? Have they stopped testing in prisons? Today's numbers definitely look too good to be true!
