PHUKET: Patong Mayor Chalermsak Maneesri has confirmed that pubs, bars and other entertainment venues across Phuket will be closed for the July 1 reopening of the island to receiving vaccinated international tourists.

“For the entertainment venues in Phuket, from a meeting of [Phuket] officials, they altogether agreed to keep the venues closed in the first period of July, as we had a cluster from that kind of venue.

“Phuket Governor and the TAT Governor have not allowed them to open,” Mayor Chalermsak told The Phuket News earlier today (June 10).

That's ok. Hardly anyone is interested in pubs, bars and other entertainment venues when on holiday.

  • Right, I'm sure they will all be lining up to come to Thailand which still has lockdown conditions just as their home countries remove these very same restrictions ????

Yes, lets go on holiday where going out and having fun is banned? The sandbox just became a liter box?

Some people might not care and are only there for the beaches.  A lot probably will though.

That's a brilliant insight. You state the obvious so eloquently.

Coz of recent clusters...

Do they close all the factories, markets and workers' ghettos coz of recent clusters ? Clowns !!

Beam me up Scotty, I've heard enough!

On another note, why should anybody expect going on holiday to have bars, restaurants, discos open, I mean it's just selfish!.....and make sure you mask up going to the beach or it's 20,000 baht fine!

Avoid the airport guys, it's going to be a busy one with all these tourists flocking in.

So let's try to attract tourists but keep bars, nightclubs and no booze in establishments closed. What planet do these monk..s live on?

The more I read, the more I am convinced the only way out is vaccination. Lockdowns, social distancing, closing bars, etc., are not sustainable and enforceable in the long run. I am already seeing bars in Pattaya open with falangs drinking iced beer, no social distancing, no masks. Not justifying the Pattaya falang and Thai ber owners's disregard for rules just pointing out the reality of the situation.

Is it possible in the near future we will hear from the PM stating the Phuket Sandbox was unsuccessful ? That's quite   a list of arrival / stay requirements for fully vaccinated and pre flight negative covid tested 'happy' tourists on tatnews.org and it is LOW season.......

either open or don't

any one of these officials actually have any idea what they are doing

I think this is being set up for tourists from only one country - the one they can rip off the most...............any guesses

Never thought I would see the day that Saudi Arabia became a more appealing holiday destination than Thailand. Well done General!

I'm sure it's a hotter and dryer Sandbox in Saudi as well..........

Once the airlines get on to all these restrictions, they will bin the flights until a clearer and more coherent policy is in place.

This flip flopping is just beyond the limit now and people won't stand for it.

I speak to plenty people in the UK regularly on social media and by phone and not one is planning the Far East this year.

Maybe by October the Big PM will have made a trip to Phuket to instruct the mayors on the island that

not many tourists are non alcoholic tea drinkers like he seems to be.  Maybe then by October some

tourists will be ready to return to Thailand period.  This story and the  Mayor of Patong ,  remarks are just more

cause for no tourists.  5555
