Opinion: Four steps the government can take to save the country

Since the start of the third wave, the government has been stuck in a difficult, damned if you do, damned if you don’t position. Impose too many restrictions and long-suffering small businesses may finally topple. Impose too few, however, and infections would continue with no end in sight.

Instead of the eradication strategy that the government successfully accomplished last year, this time the government has opted for a middling approach and eventually started removing restrictions even before a consistent improvement in case numbers could be detected. The result was a continued rise in infections which has put the health system under severe strain and now the re-imposition of a ban on dining inside.

This oscillation between closing and opening feels disorienting and does neither public health nor the economy much good. Even while it is clear that there is not much appetite at the highest levels of power to return to last year’s eradication strategy, more can still be done to combat the current situation.

All you can say is Money is the reason they do what they do.  There is no end in sight as witnessed now with the numbers rising and all of the variants of Covid putting a pincher move on Thailand.  Employers are throwing away workers by dumping them on the side of the road as they do not want to be caught with un-documented workers.  This is truly a screwed up situation and one caused by the PM, Anutin and their cronies. The below says it all.  Money is the driving force, and unless they kick down to the public, which they won't then they have painted themselves into a nice tight corner with a lack of vaccines and wishing to open up Phuket while locking down certain places in Bangkok and then other provinces making folks arriving to test and quarantine.....Sad.

Forget 4 steps.

One step would be good start. That is do everything possible to obtain vaccine from foreign countries.

I thought the country was producing millions of their own from the start of June, what happened there?

TBH I don't know. Some guys look into the behind scene info. I'm bit superficial. Tend to look at results.

I'm only guessing in that I assume there has been production issues and also keep in mind that there were contracts in place to supply some countries. Philippines? etc.

I think yesterday they did something like 70k+ (little bit) vaccinations.

That's ridiculous.

Some expats on the forums are having success with first jab.

Hasn't been straightforward esp for folk in Bangkok.

Have you had your first jab? What's your personal experience been.

I'm too obnoxious to deal with registration and apps etc

Open shopingmalls but closed parks sums it up pretty well.

5. Change all brown envelopes to be 40 cm by 40 cm an bright red in colour

3. Keep outdoor venues, such as public parks, open. Something that has been puzzling throughout the third wave is the fact that some outdoor venues, such as parks, were closed down, while indoor venues such as shopping malls were allowed to remain open.

And yet the first thing areas in Chonburi (and likely other provinces) was to again promptly shut down beaches and other outdoor areas...madness!

As they sing on the football terraces:

"It's all gone quiet over there..."

Create a public debate between scientists and physicians who think differently.

It will be glaringly obvious who the mystifier is.

Hasn't been that straightforward for folks not in Bangkok either. Been told to <deleted> off because "you are foreigner" three times now!

That was just attempting to register!

Have to accept that on face value.

I would be so fished off about that especially as I know in my country Oz (from what I'm told) that just does not occur there

Isn't it true that UK was vaccinating everyone. Even those without docs.

You wont qualify my friend

I agree with post here ... First step is get rid of Pm and his cronies... new elections without 250 selfappointed senators but the banned parties can take part too.. See what will happen . The country is sick but the only way to heal it is get rid of the cause ...

Say what?  If you don't test you cannot report.  If you decide not to report positives the public perception is that the virus has been eradicated.  Pure and utter BS from this corrupt 'government'.

This government couldn't even find its own rear-end with both hands if it was on fire!

Same in America too no matter race, color, creed or national origin. Other that blatant racism and segregation by these DOGS, there is absolutely no reason what-so-ever that any foreign national should be turned away at anytime to register and/or be vaccinated.

I think here it is more to do with they know they have ballsed it up by not ordering enough vaccines, they have not even enough for Thai's,

The lack of vaccinations has been the driver. They bent over backwards to keep the money in the hands of the investor(s) in the Thai AZ facility. The doses were not delivered and now we are out of time.

Step 1; Let the ADULTS take over and people with some form of real education.

Many will say they only need to take 1 step
