Each booked 12 rooms for their visiting family they can not share the room with.  Mormon John Smith is coming with his 6 wives and 14 children, ergo he needs 21 rooms, all booked under his name.

according to TAT's data department Mormon John will need 294 rooms.. just not on the same night ????

13,000 rooms sure sounds a lot better than 1100 arrivals in FIFTEEN days    total failure ????

As far as Phuket goes there had been 217 hotel bookings for the first day and 1,101 bookings for the first 15 days.

This represented 13,116 rooms as each person will be staying an average of 12 days.

That is one of the funniest things I have read for months LMAO

The whole article is a joke - a complete pile of stupid and inaccurate nonsense

So maybe 10% of the population of Phuket have been tested for Covid and how many have had the two required shots of Sinovac?

Never mind reality, lets release a statement that 80% will be vaccinated by Thursday and the tourists will come flooding in!

Welcome to fantasy island......... the quicksand box.

Indeed, it's not rooms, it's room nights for a current total of 1300+ plus people so far for the first 15 days.   I'm sure though, given the current status of still not being officially recognised by quite a few Thai consulates and hence are delaying COE's, these numbers will creep upwards once the system is actually operating.   There is of course the Bangkok ASQ factor, with quite a few opting for the 'Sandbox' as an alternative 'Alternative', and many will be heading to other provinces once cleared to do so.

Given these low numbers, it also calls into question the financial implications for airlines who have so far commited to flights and a schedule.

If you believe that the PCR tests carry a false positive rate of 0.5% (I do) and each sandboxer will have a 1.5% chance of getting a false positive, then out of every 1,000 travelers, 15 of them will get a 14-day stay in one of the two field hospitals they have set up on the island. One thing I wonder about: if an asymptomatic person gets a false positive test result and ends up in the field hospital (read hospitel or forced quarantine in a hotel), how much will they have to pay out of pocket? I can't imagine their insurance policy paying if they aren't symptomatic and aren't put in an actual hospital to get actual treatment.

After a positive test, the person will undergo a second test afterwards to confirm before being shipped off to a quarantine facility.

So that's the math for the amazing 15,000 bookings, it's hotel room nites, not people...????

I sense an aroma of bullsh!t wafting from this article.

Most travellers will stay 14 days, so 1 booking means 14 nights.

They mean 13.000 nights in hotel  rooms, not 13.000 rooms.

A second test has not been an option for those testing positive in ASQ/ALQ.  What makes you think it will be here?

Sorry to break it for you there, but 1101 rooms booked for 12 days, represents 1101 rooms

Average stay 12 days.....so a lot will be going home after then, not travelling on.

Wouldn't surprise me that all media will be told ER threatened if they publish the true figures on arrivals to Phuket. The stupid dirty falangs will believe everything we say.  All we will hear is what a success the roll out has been or it was more then we expected Said a TAT spokesman.  Goebbels would be proud to watch the Propaganda minister pumping it out on July the second.

HUH?
you must remain on Phuket island 14 days ( arrival day is day zero)
ONLY those flying back out of Thailand can leave phuket before the 14 days

SO where did ur "average" come from?

If that is true, then I wish them good luck.  I will keep an eye on this and may choose this option instead of ALQ.

Choosing this option instead of ALQ is what we all are thinking about.

Everyone travelling to Phuket will be expats returning to Thailand. But no tourists at all.

Not really. They are counting each room per day.

1101 bookings * 15 days = 16,515 rooms but some will be families

Only in Thailand would you spout this nonsense though

13000 room nights. Actual “tourists” in the first 15 days is about 1,100.

That's not what normative says:

https://www.tatnews.org/2021/06/initial-information-phuket-sandbox/

"In the case that travellers are tested positive for COVID-19, travellers will be referred to specified healthcare facilities for medical treatment at their own expense."

Not a case of having to remain on Phuket for 14 days, though for those who wish to leave earlier, it must be an international departure from Phuket.   I guess there are some, for whatever reason, who may choose to stay for 7 or 10 days only as an example.   For travel to other provinces, then yes, a minimum 14 day stay on Phuket is required.

12 days is the average stay mentioned in the article. So most people will come to Phuket, then leave Phuket to go home. Not travel around Thailand.

Actually they missed a big opportunity, 1,100 tourists equals 13k rooms booked BUT, it’s more than 156,000 short time rooms.

these TAT guys just don’t think big. SMH.

By this reckoning, my 12 room bed and breakfast I'm suck in now has had over 400 rooms booked in the past 15 months just by me alone. There's 4 other people here too - so the 12 room B&B has now had 2000 rooms booked in a 15 months by just 5 people.

This is exactly why nobody trusts Thailand's creative figures in anything !

These numbers smell like they came from an uncleaned litter box?

The average person coming will be taking advantage of the opportunity and then leaving Phuket after 2 weeks or so. If they are not replaced then Phuket will just be a deserted ghost town again. I do not think they are coming for a Phuket holiday experience, but for entry and leaving to the mainland

Most of the booking sites are offering free cancelation and payment on arrival. Most Phuket listings on booking.com, Agoda and I assume most of the other booking sites offer free cancelation anything from 5 days to 48 hours prior to arrival. Little point in stating how many rooms have been booked as very few will be guaranteed with payment in advance and unable to cancel. Will be interesting to see just how many arrive.

This is a combination of using mathematics, fact twisting and statistics joggling. I wonder how long it will takes until they find out by adding double occupancy ( 2Person / 1Room) to the equation brings it to 26.232 bookings.  Lucky these guys not work for the banking sector...or do they ?

13.000 rooms for 14 nights makes 928 rooms suppose 2 persons for 1 room is 1856 persons... 14 night should be in stead of 12 because minimum stay before travelling around is 15 days. Earlier leave is possible, but make it 1900 tourists is not that much. IF they are coming
