BANGKOK (NNT) - Members of parliament have clarified the alleged COVID-19 booster shot request for Members of Parliament is misinterpreted information, stressing healthcare workers must be the top priority.

House of Representative members have made clarifications on the alleged booster shot request for parliamentary members that sparked controversy.

The clarifications come after an alleged proposal to request booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine for MPs, Senators, and staff members at parliament to minimize disruption to parliamentary sessions.

House Speaker Chuan Leekpai has confirmed the proposal has not been endorsed by the parliament, as the booster shots must be available to healthcare workers first.

Mr Wirat Ratanaset, a Nakhon Ratchasima MP from Phalang Pracharat Party and Chief Government Whip, said the booster dose topic had been brought up in a quadrilateral meeting, however no conclusion was reached to give MPs and Senators the booster.

Nan MP Dr Chonlanan Srikaew from the opposition Pheu Thai Party said the alleged booster dose request was misinterpreted information, as healthcare workers, elders, and the general public should be prioritized in getting the vaccine, while the meeting had only discussed whether MPs should attend meetings given the current situation.

Coalition MP from Phalang Pracharat Party Anan Pholamnuay, who delivered the meeting’s outcome, said the report was misleading as the whip meeting had not reached any conclusions, noting that vaccines and politics have been mixed to create an agenda.

A booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine has recently been a hot subject, particularly among healthcare workers who have received two shots of Sinovac vaccine.

Health authorities have acknowledged concerns that the level of immune protection resulting from Sinovac may not be sufficient against the Delta variant, and has given the nod to a third booster dose, using either the Pfizer vaccine or AstraZeneca, to frontline healthcare workers who earlier received Sinovac. Guidelines on this proposal are expected to be released in a month.

No misunderstanding there.

" booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine for MPs, Senators, and staff members at parliament to minimize disruption to parliamentary sessions."  Yeah right.

Maybe its soon time to start to seek answers about the missing vaccine from the Siam Baiosenic and why the man we can not talk about get that contract in the first place but in Thailand I guess the people in charge will let 1000 after 1000 of people die of the virus lack of food or suicide before them look for answers.

Don't see how that could have possibly been 'misinterpreted'.  In a nutshell, they are more important than anyone else and must get their booster before most of the country has even had a first shot.  Despicable.

Yes, and a good example, because the PM, DPM and many other dignitaries don't have masks in the photo, it's been wrongly misinterpretation that they weren't wearing masks, and 30 minutes is allowed but it's been wrongly misinterpretation.

Everybody knows that you can be unmasked and near to others and without masks for up to 30 minutes and there's no risk of catching Covid 19, it's just misinterpretations.

Yes, this where the 1.5 million doses of US Pfizer vaccine is going to go. This is why the US embassy doesn't want American citizens to get it.

let's see the full details please, it should be '...  they ....  (and their wives and kids and grandparents, aunts & uncles)  must get their booster first.

Anything else is just plainly simply unfair.

Hospital staff. No need for politicians who do what the army tells them to do. Use the new and pointless very very expensive Parliament as another field hospital. Tell the politicians to reapply for their jobs through fair elections.

Tell the Senators their cushy jobs are finished and their salaries should be returned to boost the pensions of the old.

In a strange way, Chinese Communism and it's Xi inspired harsh outcomes for lies and corruption, no matter who one is, or how rich, is the perfect panacea for this place.  Bring it!

Every member under 60 of every Government in the World should have said they would not accept being vaccinated until all frontline workers were vaccinated.........health workers, police, bus drivers etc.

Why, what progress are they likely to make without the disruption?

In China. Corruption trial in the morning. Execution by firing squad in the afternoon.

We all know the kind of people that will be getting the first booster shots from the donated Pfizer and they will not be showing it on TV this time.

Of course it was "misinterpreted."  Of course.

Even the ladies who sweep the streets and cut the grass and scrub back are far more important than politicians. At least they do the job and do it well.

I wonder if any country has developed a virus that only eliminates politicians?
