Thailand's prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and DMP and health minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a Zoom meeting with the governors of 12 deep red zone provinces yesterday to discuss the Covid-19 crisis latest.

Represented were the governors of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Chonburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Chachoengsao and the four far southern provinces.

Bangkok did not take part.

Top of the agenda was more beds in these provinces and how to pay for them and antigen test kits and if the people knew how to use them.

At one point - pehaps seeking a ray of hope amid the doom and gloom of the crisis - Prayuth asked the governors:

"Isn't anybody reporting a lowering in case numbers?"

There was a stony silence as no one did.

Prayuth pressed on saying: "I hope things will be better in four to six weeks according to the latest data"

Anutin chimed in that from next month Thailand would be getting 10 million doses of vaccine a month.

The authorities would be able to vaccinate a million people a day throughout the country, he said confidently without explaining the obvious discrepancy.

Prayuth concluded that the crisis was not over yet and everyone should do their best and look at what was happening elsewhere in the world.

Whether this was for reassurance or guidance was not explained.

Sums it up really. Why does nobody call him out on these lies? At least the smug smile has gone, for now...

a very disconcerting account of a high level meeting.

Thai language is pretty vague, which is a politicians dream. Even English language is extremely open to interpretation.

Did he say 10 million a day, every day? Or did he just insinuate that they have the capacity to vaccinate up to 1 million people a day?

We're locked in a cycle of repetition, wave, increase in cases and deaths, shutdowns slow the spread, cases decrease, open things up, next wave, rinse-repeat.

Not unlike the cycle of governments/coups here.

Just get as many people vaccinated as soon as possible and stop the the useless jabbering. I think one of those Lopburi monkey gangs could do a better job than this lot? They seem better organized for one.

The claim of 1 mm vaccinations per day is, I think certifiably loony.

Aim for 500,000, aim a bit higher on weekends, and if you over-achieve awesome.

But you need vaccines first.

5 - 6 mm per month from AZ won't cut it. Unless Thai math is different?

The only wat this would be logistically possible in Thailand is if they do the shots at 7-11.

A lot of “don’t worry, we are here to help” statements from the Thai govt right now. I guess they don’t realize the people know it is complete and utter bs

Show me the 30 million vaccines in stock, or have they been hiding them so Anutin can prove he is not lying, are they counting the 10 million AZ, and are their 20 million MRNA vaccines here in their hands already, or are they counting the chickens before the eggs hatch, asking for my friends new pet water monitor lizard

Easy. Vaccinate a million people on each of the first 10 days of the month, then close the vaccination centers for the rest of the month. This man is a genius.

This follows the track that he hopes for better numbers in 4-6 weeks . He's hoping everybody had it by then , according to his data .

Clueless and rudderless. 10 million a month? Think you've used that one before Anutin and been proven wrong. And the Hero General plaintively asking if anyone has some good news? Pathetic. You're the Covid Czar, this is your number one priority, the biggest threat to your nation, and you are utterly out of your depth. Better get out there and start asking other nations for vaccines not some crumb of good news which is meaningless in the context of the pandemic. I see the UK is now donating 415,000 doses from a tweet on Richard Barrow. Get your big general's hat in your hand and go ask and beg for help because you're incapable of doing little else.

Why doesn’t the Thai PM know before the meeting that numbers aren’t going down anywhere? Doesn’t he get briefed at all?

Yesterday it was 2-3 weeks, today it's 4-6 weeks. What will the prediction be by the weekend?

No one here seems capable of delivering accurate news, if it's bad.

Epic failure, but endemic to the Thai social contract.

And based on the photos, I guess masks aren't a thing anymore?

(Yes, I know about stock or older photos being re-used.)

Hey Prayuth, don't you realize nobody is listening to you anymore? You are performing some sort of pantomime, at this point, pretending to be a man of importance.

And in terms of making sense of what is going on, you need policy, competent ministers with experience in the fields their ministries are in charge of, and at least a tiny amount of vision and planning. Prayuth lacks every pre-requisite. So do most of his ministers. Especially Anutin and Pipat. Likely the two least qualified and least effective of the lot. One would think during a national emergency, a skilled and talented tourism and  health minister would be considered important.

Prayuth does not inspire confidence, as he has no follow up in his game, is highly insincere, and is grossly incompetent and under qualified for the job. One would think after 7 plus years he has had time to learn. That does not appear to be the case. He is a terrible leader.

This kind of national emergency is real proof that Thailand should never allow another coup to happen. With a civilian government that is democratically elected, and a truly representative body in the senate, Thailand at least has a chance of qualified ministers being appointed based on merit and talent.

With Prayuth and this army, there is little chance of this ever happening. They are re-defining the words cronyism and inept on a daily basis.

Nobody knows how high unemployment is right now. I suspect it is over 30% nationwide. Alot of hurt right now. Alot of pain for the locals. I really feel for them. Where is the hope? Where is the promise of a rosy tomorrow? What is the future of the nation?

Seven years of regression, combined with a stunning degree of mismanagement, ineptitude, lack of vision, and inability to even get the vaccine program right, is leading to alot of desperation at this time.

What really is the point to keep putting up these daily reports which are then followed by the usual predictable slating of said reports, and usually by the same old posters? Talk about same sh!t different day. It's all a bit old now, but I suppose when you have nothing to do all day..

You don’t have to read it.

Often can't manage 100,000 jabs a day at the weekends and miraculously we're going to jump to 10 times that.  If only.....
