Thailand’s national police chief is worth 104 million baht

Featured Replies

A quick audit of his tax records over the last 10 to 20 years should show if everything is all ok, it's not an unusually large amount of wealth.

  • what is the point of these declarations if they don't investigate where the money came from

  • He earns the salary of an international school teacher and he is worth 2.6 Million Euro's. If this doesn't bring up red flag, than I don't know what doesn't.

Nothing to do with it, but nor do you.

$44,400 becomes $3,100,000 after all living expenses., you tell us how...?

In all fairness he and or his wife could have inherited land and other wealth from parents or other relatives which would be included in their declared assets. Also his wife may have some well paid position in industry or government. The facts as laid out really are not much use at all.

He would worth more if he had a proper job

That would raise eyebrow in any other country.

Most countries anyways.

What about Police chiefs in the US? Lets compare like for like.

You borrow it. There is a highly developed peer to peer lending system available in certain circles.

Money brokers raise the cash - at a significant cost!

That's right. There are always rich businessmen around the assistant commissioner I know.

They land the money for zero interest and get paid back in 'boom koon'.

Or would be more accurate to compare police chiefs here to Mob bosses in US.

The point is that in Thailand you are a star if  you are rich, no matter where the money comes from.

How true...????

That's why folk here wear fancy watches, expensive handbags, designer this and that but live in a shed.

The "Look at me, I am well off" brigade.....????

He is probably thinking he is worth a lot more after he heard David Cameron got paid over 300 million baht working 2 and a half years part time for an investment bank. Nothing will stick to David Cameron so why pick on this honest Police Chief.

You are a biographer...?

5,000.000 mil AUD + as a police officer, national police boss or not, is rotten to the core. No corruption or bribery going on here, everything is as it should be with The Force.

A policemans Lot is not a happy one!

But maybe overtime would take his "b e"s - sorry - annual salary, from annually to monthly!

I have a copper living directly opposite me in our village. Only him and his missus. They have a Toyota Camry, a red plate 5 series BMW and 2 weeks ago a red plate Mini Clubman appeared, on the take? Of couse not

Did a lot of overtime and probably had a part time job delivering newspapers.

No question he accumulated his wealth through sheer hard honest work, good luck to him! Lmao

104 Million Baht is definitely a nice amount to be able to save out of a 1.5 Million Baht annual salary. I wonder if we can rest assured, that all of it has been declared and taxed in his annual tax returns?

So his wealth is worth about 70 times his salary at the top of his carreer. Hmmmm.......

Yes, it was more than 100 million baht.

So the salary is peanuts , a drop in the ocean to what he really gets “ unofficially” just what he charges for promotions and to get stationed at certain places made all the money back in the first year. What he declared is just a fraction of what he is really worth. If I had to guess I would say he is worth around half a billion and will be worth close to a billion by the time re retired or moved to another position

Funny that the kids have almost the same amount as needed for a retirement Visa. Checking account balance now.....

104 Million THB at today's spot rate is

$3,152,470.00 USD,

$4,282,519.00 AUD,

£2,273,645 Pound Sterling,

€2,686,167 Euros

Not a bad accumulation for someone.

The salary of the police Chief is obviously not able to accumulate that worth on its own in a normal human career span.  I am not sure when he commenced that position, but assume it's not been decades long.

Previous to that would have been lower ranked, lower salary.

Then there is government income tax applied and cost of living.

Both he and his wife seem to have quite expensive materialistic tastes as revealed in this report.  But there are the wealthy show ponies who like to advertise how fantastic they are (something to do with vanity and narcissism?)

A nice bank deposit for the missus and kids.  With so much successful accumulation of wealth, one may ask why they would have such large sums of cash sitting in his wife's named account that is basically half their total worth?

Other sources of claimed legitimate wealth perhaps are: inheritance, he's a very savvy and smart investor, owner of other successful businesses and/or companies, winner of significant Lottery prizes, winner of a significant Casino gamble prize abroad, gifts from generous friends and family,  donations.

I wonder how the audit will go ...

We could say the same to many expats here too and how they came into possession of their wealth (Thailand the mecca for money laundering in the past.  We can thank the legacy of banks like HSBC for that).

Audit? You seriously think they will look into this? Prayuth is there to protect them, not investigate them. Prayuth and this administration are the do nothing people. Their sole purpose is to protect the elite, the super rich, corporations, the police, immigration, customs, and those currently in power. Nothing else matters to these dinosaurs.

And Thailand will pay the price for this failed regime for years to come. Woe are the people of Thailand. They justly deserve all the criticism, humiliation and shame that can be heaped upon them.

Out with the dinosaurs. In with the youth!

I guess you don't know how much it costs to secure a position as a senior policeman.

To be a teller in a bank you need a few million to secure the position. Even crappy jobs cost money!
