Kaboom, and unless there is now a need and specific reason to get to Thailand it appears the UK folks will not be heading here to Vacation.  Today will also see the CCSA reduce restrictions in preparations for opening the country in the near future.  Unfortunately, for tourism issues it will only be domestic tourism for now, but hey I hope to be able to visit Phuket again as well as a few other locales instead of being just stuck in BKK.  As always traveling safely by my own vehicle and ensuring my family is safe as well.  Maybe by mid 2022 or for 2022's high season the country will still be around and not destroyed by this government.  On another note, the shopping markets have been obviously depleted of the imported foods as many shelves in Villa, Gourmet foods, and Tops have many empty shelves and freezer sections.

Villa on Sukhumvit is up for sale. 13m thb they were wanting. Bit of a risk at the moment given the demographic it caters to if you ask me.

They can ask what they want, it's what they'll get that is the question!

The UK decision reflects their distrust of Thailands reporting of daily infection figures and their general dislike of the military junta here.

There are other options like going to amber and green zone countries first before going back to UK. Yeah, I know it's a a bit troublesome.

The Phuket idea was half-baked , Thailand shouldn't open up to tourists before ensuring 80% of the population is fully vaccinated.

Another stake in the barely beating Sandbox heart. I said at the outset that there were too many external dependancies beyond the Phuket arrival gate and hype to control plus those internal ones. From the comments at the time, it was clear the Hotel Association supporters, poo-pooed my "negative comments". Now there are barely any arrivals (most were early returnees and 93% of all bookings have been consumed). Between today and tomorrow, there will be an exodus of folks who will try and beat the Monday UK arrival deadline and then of course inward cancellations. Hong Kong has already added 3 weeks quarantine to Thailand arrivals.

Madness on the part of the UK - Yes, especially if you are double vaccinated returning British National. Revenue gouging by a "corrupt" British Gov't to steer you into expensive hotels and more compulsory tests... you decide, especially given that there are 35,000 new infections every day in the UK.

This is however, Thailand's price to pay for a low vaccinated population and not acting fast enough.

Now for another prediction; It will be two years before we are back to some kind of normal on global travel. Why? Low global vaccination rates caused by short supply - there is simply not enough production for a global population ...... plus the extra supply needed for those booster shots (that's potentially another 7 Billion more on the near horizon) .... and a European winter is coming and that means the opportunity for new variants and more lockdowns. Oh, and if you thought you had the freedom to get on a play for that weekend away, that freedom is being taken away as well. Try and travel without a vaccine by the end of the year ..... very soon you won't be able to even board a plane or even enter another country. Stay curious.

Exceptions should be made for those already on holiday, if not back by Wed it's forced detention in expensive prison.

It's never happend for any other country, there were reports of people returning to the UK as soon as they set foot in Mexico following the last tranche of changes.

Whilst I have every sympathy for those caught out by these changes, it's not as if we didn't see it coming.

The UK Government received a lot of criticism when they delayed enforcing the restrictions on travellers from other countries, travellers from India was a good example.

Did TAT finally go TiTs up yet?

As many countries will follow suit in the near future I would imagine and making it very difficult for their citizens to return home. Thailand can kiss their tourism industry good-bye for the most part now!!!

I think it was Gordon Browns government if my memories are accurate? Selling everything to make the new labour deficit look less worse than it was.

Don't think it's just variants, although that is a major factor, it's also infection rates and vaccination numbers that go into the decision making as well AFAIK.

There are many factors involved in making a decision such as this.

Vaccination rates is one that I know of, as are Daily Infection Rate is another.

Severe cases and Hospital capacity maybe also come into the equation, as will " transparency "

Thailand has been very lucky to get away with not being on the UK Red List thus far, and I think to get back to Amber status, they will need to improve on many facets of their Covid management.

A disaster for me personally. This is not good. Thanks Anutin.

You can go to green countries for 10 days. Still a pain but better than the alternative

I just spoke with some Brits this morning who were due to leave Phuket Sunday and would have had to do quarantine in the UK, they have booked another flight and leave Saturday, 500 pound extra, as an alternative they did consider flying to Malta which is on the green list then back to England.

Wasn't that pub allegedly opened using boiler room money?

Would be fitting.

UK  38,000 cases

Thailand 18,000 cases

the Johnson government doing what it does best.... being inept.

The UK is testing hundreds of thousands to get those figures though.

Thailand is only testing about 50,000 people per day and not including the rapid ATK figures in the totals.

Deaths from COVID in Thailand far exceed those in the UK now too.

I always said that as long as the positives out weigh the negatives regarding going back, I would continue to live in Thailand, speaking personally what has/is happening in Thailand over the last 18 months that is getting closer by the week

Many reports of expats returning to their home countries. Not only with what has happened but they know the Chinese influx/influence is only getting started and that will change a lot of places.

You will also find the most vocal opponents of returning are the ones with nowhere or no one to return to.

UK house prices and rents increased about 10% last year.

What do you think a Pattaya shoebox is worth?

I wouldn't want to be trapped in Thailand on a frozen state pension.

Ever heard of 'irony' ?

would it be possible to fly indirect to get round it or would you still be pulled?  asking for a friend

Maybe now the Thai government will look at us remaining dirty Falange's with smiley eyes and welcome us to open our wallets with a low bow

I posted above what some English people are doing, if the couldn't have got on emerites back to UK they considered flying to Malta then to England

You've had a few sarky responses to that asking whats its got to do with the British Embassy but you are perfectly correct

They would have been giving "hard on the ground" information back to the British Government

Whilst not entirely down to the BE they'd have had a big input for sure

I know several expat Pattaya property owners, that have condos, land and houses. Most are overleveraged.

Some of them are in real trouble as their rental income has dried up, and they are trying to offload their assets to keep afloat.

However, some of them still do not understand the gravity of the current situation and have refused what few offers they have received because they are under what they value the assets at.

It's a buyer's market right now, but prices are still way too high given the current situation.

Massive correction coming. Take what you can get now before reality comes crashing down around would be my advice.
