Popular Post webfact
Picture: Bangkok Business News The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Mumbai office representative told Bangkok Business News that there was high demand among Indian tourists to return to Thailand. Chollada Sitthiwan had conducted a survey among 300 travel agents who reported that Indian tourists were very keen to start coming to Thailand again. Problems stand in the way of this, noted the media. There is still a negative perception of India's handling of the pandemic especially after the emergence of the Delta variant (remember it was originally called the Indian variant) that has caused so much trouble in Thailand. Thai consulates in India have not issued Certificates of Entry to tourists for 4 months. The only ones getting a CoE are businessmen and Indians living or with families in Thailand. BBN reported that the perception of Indian being a risky country arose out of 400,000 daily cases back in June. But these had now subsided considerably to just 20-40,000 a day. This is not so different to Thailand and of course the population of India is far greater. India's vaccine rollout has also been a resounding sucess and the country has now entered into an "Air Bubble Agreement" with 28 countries including the US and UK. Chollada said that the TAT in India were keeping a close watch on the CCSA in Thailand for their announcements regarding Indian tourists. Over the next six weeks preparations would be taking place to promote Thailand and allay concerns. It is hoped that towards the end of the year charter flights will resume from places like Mumbai and New Delhi to Thailand and that sticking points of visas and CoE can be ironed out. 94% of 300 travel agents surveyed in India pointed to high demand for trips to Thailand, she noted. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-08-30 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates 1 6

Popular Post John Drake
The number count for India is suspect, to say the least. The number of dead was probably beyond figuring. And I would put their current numbers under the same degree of skepticism.

Rubies you meant, jewels have more purchasing power, but wait if its not gold then the Thai girls will not take them....Hmmm rupees or lakh's or dollars would work better exchanged at the awesome rate it is soon to be....

Caldera
They probably had the same high hopes exactly a year ago. Sure, there's demand in principle, but the regulations have to be somewhat more favorable. Quarantine in itself, while it exists, will ensure that most potential foreign visitors can't or won't come. That's the elephant in the room.

Emdog
"Indian tourists set to return to Thailand in droves - high demand reports TAT's Mumbai office" well, what else would you expect the office to report? In general, Thais are loathe to report anything that smacks of bad news or criticism of those higher up the food chain. And it is TAT after all

redwood1
You see all those Indian restaurants that have not gone out of business despite hardly having any customers at all for 18 months? Plenty are closed but not fully shut down..... Someone has been keeping these places alive with good old fashion cash......They sure have not been surviving off customers.... My theory is these Indian restaurants are being kept alive because there is planned a absolute flood of Indian tourist to come to Thailand.....And they are going to need somewhere to eat....Loads of Indians seem to only want to eat Indian food, so the need to keep these restaurants alive to be ready for the flood..... Popular Post sanju1628
Indians are also the highest spenders,of all nationalities, as spending per capital tourist .. so naturally Thailand needs them back soon .. Covid is well under control .. except the two disastrous months of April and May 2921, India has managed it Covid infections and death numbers, better than almost all large countries .. it has vaccinated 650 million doses, achieving an average of 6 million-8 million doses everyday .. So Indian tourists should certainly be welcome 1

Popular Post Pedrogaz
Great news especially after the disappointment of the sandbox. I know Indians love sandboxes, but they are more comfortable spending lots of money in Thai shops, buying stuff for their wives and girlfriends. Thailand will be back to normal when I see 5 Indians male tourists sharing a small bottle of Coke with 5 straws. Probably saving money to spend in the shops.

Gsxrnz
Funniest thing I saw was a bunch of security guards refusing an Indian entry to a drinking and dancing establishment in Walking Street - someone told me they were called gogo bars, but I wouldn't know When the guy finally convinced them he was actually Canadian, the guards fell over themselves with apologies and took him inside for a drink on the house.

MrJ2U
Is that good news? I guess any tourists are better than nothing. I assume they'll be an inevitable 4th or 5th wave. Thats the cycle of pandemics.
