Wifey passed away 5 years ago, but this was our song.

Makes me homesick. 

Just about every song I like. Given most were made long ago ( Rhiannon has to be my most favourite ) either the singer has died ( Orbison et al ) or the group ceased to be.

Tried to think of a song that makes me happy and the only one that springs to mind is "Stay the night" by James Blunt. That's thousands of sad songs to one happy one.

Partly, it's because my Celtish heritage makes me prone to melancholy, but every song I like is associated with some part of my life or some particular thing, and given my life is pretty much to the point the fat lady will be singing, every memory of my life that wasn't horrible makes me sad. Eg after I left my partner I heard "Drive" by the Cars, and every time I hear that it takes me right back then.

Of course, if we like country or Celtic music, even Gypsy music ( remember the Gypsy Kings? ) we are going to be wallowing in misery anyway.

Don't know what exactly makes that song so emotional for me, but it really does, and always did, even when I was young and had my life ahead of me. I wish I could have been in the football stadium when thousands were singing it- that would be sure to bring a tear.

I lived in Glasgow and Barcelona, so this had a special place for me -

I think it depends on whats going on at the time and a song will play and it just hits a nerve and then sticks with you. Everytime you hear it , it takes back to that moment........and emotion.

There are a few songs i find very emotional ,maybe not just because of the song but because of the memories attached.

Many years ago I was driving alone when a song I’d never heard before started playing on the car radio.  Before the song finished, I had to pull over and stop as I was in tears.  

“Mothers, Daughters, Wives” by Aussie folksinger Judy Small, is IMHO the greatest antiwar song.

Real men don't cry.. not often anyway...

an immense song but Nobody Home on the same side 3 of the same album tends to hit me harder.

 

Talking of Pink Floyd- this one helped me get through my first unrequited love for the most amazing woman I ever met. I was crazy for her, but she rejected me cruelly.

Anyway, the song really spoke to me as though it had been written just for me.

Bit of an odd one this. The BBC ran a brilliant series a couple of years back, 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace'. They played Adagio in G minor during the very moving epilogue and it stills tears me up when I hear it.

 

 

 

 

No song has ever made me cry, but now I have this overwhelming urge to stand in a circle holding hands with you guys and sing Kumbaya.

This song makes both me and the wife cry every time.

 

I like Phil Colllins and the first time I played it with her she started to cry more at the video than the words, which she now knows. She told me then that she had been homeless on the Streets of Bangkok as a young teenager, only for 3 months but that is long enough for anyone.

 

Eating from garbage and discarded food, trying to wash wihout getting chased by gas station managers, and simply helpless. I knew she had a very hard young life but this really made me cry, we cried together and sometimes still do when it's played. Three months of begging for money for a bus ticket home, but as in the song, homeless people are often treated like lepers of old. She finally made it home thanks to a kindly old Thai lady who fed her and put her on the bus home.

 

I have many more from the past but hearing this one now reminds me never to let her down, ever.
