Australians have pretty well spoken already.  Flights and hotel bookings for both Bali and Fiji are booked solid for the next 4 months. I'm sure that a few stalwarts will still make it to Thailand, but certainly not in the pre covid numbers, especially with no beer!!!

For every Neon lit farang style bar there are a hundred Thai bars/karaoke joints / brothels , its an embedded part of the culture.

Probably yes they are. How 'hands on' they will be in taking care of and making sure what they offer is another point. Making up lovely stories is fine if what they advertise actually exists.

Given that most people wanting to take a Christmas break will probably be making their decisions anytime soon, then delaying giving a date for entertainment venues etc to open will only make people give Thailand a miss this year and book somewhere else. There might be a few last minutes booking but they’ll be the exception. 

Why would tourists come if all nightlife - bars and clubs and entertainment venues are closed. 
Their own country is open in all regards so why come to Thailand for a holiday when you can’t even have a drink anywhere while on holiday. 
 

it’s not a sensible idea of getting tourists as tourists work hard all year in their country and want to let loose it relax and enjoy themselves so why would they come to Thailand when nothing is open ? sounds boring !

You’re right I think. I was in a hotel in the NE a couple of nights ago having a beer at 1800. There where 3 young ladies in Pyjamas having dinner with their minder. 3 Thai guys turned up. Minder collected the cash and so to bed.

Times they are a changing, many more of the beautiful Isaan Ladies are meeting suitors on line and inviting them straight up to Issan ????

Expect a small part of Pattaya/Bangkok/Phuket will remain attractive to stag parties, but are the high milage options as magnetic to the visiting males as they were before 'Isaan lovelines'

For those who don't get it, this government doesn't want, the old tourist playground, Thailand to restart.

The typical hedonistic, partygoing, western tourist is not wanted by these hypocritical puritans. It's not hard to understand who the target tourists now are, how they want them to spend their money, and how long they should stay. 

Absolute power always includes hypocrisy and corruption on a grand scale (shades of Myanmar, N. Korea and most other countries that seek to dilute democracy). The unprecedented pandemic, and long closed borders, have given the opportunists a chance to effect massive change for the benefit of some. A chance to go back in time to another era. 

As the ruling class, the Bangkok elite have little sympathy for the millions of lower class Thais who have molded their lives around the former style of tourism. They are considered to be a part of the old feudal lifestyle, should accept this, and should continue to respect  and serve their superiors.

 

It will only change with a change of government, if that chance has not already gone. 

What about NON IMM O expats returning after visit to origin country? Do they need this 50k USD insurance?  We are not tourists.

Where do get the idea I have an obsession with gogo bars? I do have an obsession with fast cars and motorbikes, but that's beside the point. Also the next time I worry about what other people think of me will be the first. I don't spend my time trying to win points over others. I just say what I think. It would be nice if others did the same...
