Bars, Pubs, Go Go and Entertainment Venues

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I have a simple question.

Why won't the government allow bars, pubs and entertainment venues to open to fully vaccinated people ?

What are they afraid of, I mean if everyone is vaccinated and their vaccination status is checked before entry, what is the problem ?

I am sure they can provide stiff fines and enforcement for those that don't comply as they would do to others.

Is alcohol and the above venues really that much of a problem for them that they want them gone ?

I just can't put my finger on it as it doesn't make sense to me and a lot of others.

I'm hoping November 1st they start with restaurants where you are allowed to drink alcohol

as well as eat meals.

pretty much every "bar" in my area is now a "restaurant". they all rebranded last year.

not that many of them actually cook any food but there's a menu on the counter  from a local takeaway

the only thing that will actually change at these "restaurants" is the glasses your served in ????

Easy answer to that one: a  few months after vaccination NONE of the existing vaccines  has more than 50% effectiveness against infection. Put a hundred [drunk] people into a confined crowded  space for some hours and you have a very good chance to get a super  spreader event.

What about T & B cells, I hear that they usually kick in when vaccines wane ?

Easiest thing would be to limit to 25 ppl per venue.

But this would <deleted> off the rich mega place owners.

The virus only mutates in unvaccinated people.  So if you put 100 vaccinated people in a bar you don't get a super spreader unless  the one with the virus is unvaccinated.   If everyone is vaccinated  you cant create a super spreader as the virus doesn't  mutate in the vaccinated

If you look around Pattaya it would seem the Thais believe  they are ooening all on 01 Nov.  I seen doors open on bars on SOI 6, coffee shops setting up outside of a Starbucks ( figure their coffee must be better than Starbuck) hotels dusting off cobwebs, pipes being cleaned, price gouging  going up, so again they must know something  the Learned person  doesn't.

That´s the 25 million dollar question.

80% of airlines have returned  there slots meaning they aren't  comming.   This has been published.  I guess they are planning  to reap the domestic  tourist.  I wonder if they will charge the double pricing to them.

Weekends have always been busy, here, around Khao Yai. But the new trends, since pandemic, is that more and more people are coming with their own camping gear, food and drinks.

You might do some deeper research before commenting whimsically.

Repeating what has been set in place, over and again, is of little value.

It is fact that the virus only mutates in the unvaccinated.   It is fact that 90% of people dying in hospitals from the virus are the unvaccinated.   Hence, fact.. the emergency  vaccines stops the virus from mutating,  and fact that having been vaccinated  gives one a higher chance of survival if they contract the virus.  So with facts presented what do you find whimsical?

and with vaccination certificates being sold on the streets for 100 B, what could possibly go wrong...

Total misinformation. The virus can mutate inside anyone. And the vaccines are not emergency use. They have full FDA approval.

Entertainment venues have been closed for a long time and look what happened in Thonglor. Super spreader events. Can't trust the police to enforce any laws.

So, 10% are?

You contradict yourself?

Soi 7 is open since a good 2 weeks already, guess you make a lot clueless comments. FDA approval have nothing to do with emergency use only in most countries either. WHO states emergency use only too.

Mutations are no threat to vaccinated people if the vaccin works in the first place. Up to 20% difference would be covered and covid mutations are 0.3%

On Sukhimvit this week everywhere we went were serving drinks, just not in a glass!

Well aware of what's open. Ummm....FDA originally issued emergency use authorizations for the vaccines before granting full approval. And many countries just follow their lead.

Total misinformation .mutations are a threat to everyone. And the vaccine works. That's been widely proven.

That was the same scene nearing July 1 in Phuket. Unstacking beach chairs, spreading them out, dusting them off, more restaurants opening etc, couple months later beach chairs and restaurants still empty........

It is not just Pattaya. I had a drive around Chiang Rai yesterday - even up here in the frozen north things seemed to be stirring...

To offer an answer to the OP, at the simple level the decision takers are driven by a desire to control people's lives (coupled perhaps with a certain prurient morality?); at the enforcement level an opportunity for some ore lucrative "informal licencing fees"!

Interesting theory you have there

Makes no sense you can have a wedding with no alcohol but hundreds of people , yet can’t have 50% capacity in an open air bar selling drinks !

Im still of the opinion it’s partly to do with prayut asking for money from the beer companies around 8 months ago to make himself look good and helpful and them giving him nothing .

Yes, there may be something in that!

The faltering moves towards " lightening up" may be because of a growing awareness of the damage done economically, socially and to international perceptions of the country as a tourist destination, and the threat that may pose to the security of the regime.

As ever, how to change tack without losing face?

Well the sooner they do it in Sukhothai the better.

The alcohol ban has little to do with the danger of transmission and a lot to do with the strong anti alcohol lobby amongst the hyper conservative cabinet and advisors. Covid has given them a huge excuse to try to wipe out as many bars as possible by starving them of revenue. There is no logic in being able to crowd into supermarkets, fresh markets and other high traffic venues and not being able to socially distance in a responsibly run bar. We are in the hands of dictators.
