Danish citizen Carl D. who went missing in Phuket in December 2015 is now no longer missing. The joint office of  the Nordic police forces in Bangkok informs ScandAsia that Carl has been located and is alive and well.

The story began when Carl moved to Thailand from Denmark in 2014. Carl is a butcher of trade and used to work in Denmark on “Grøntorvet” (The green square), a wet market in central Copenhagen. He would often visit Thailand with a close friend and coworker. The two would usually stay in Phuket at the now closed “Big A Resort” in Rawai, Phuket. Carl and his friend enjoyed their time in Thailand very much and wanted to move there permanently.  When the owner of the Big A Resort, Thomas Flindt, offered them a job at his restaurant “Rundetaarn” in Patong, they both accepted the offer, pulled up stakes and moved to Phuket in 2014.

In Phuket, Carl was working in the kitchen of the Rundetaarn restaurant a popular hangout place for the Danish community in Phuket. In the beginning, all was going well but the temptations of the close by Bangla Road party street started affecting the work. According to Thomas, Carl began partying too much which eventually made him neglect his work at the restaurant. At the same time, Carl met a Thai woman, Sirikanya, that he entered into a relationship with. Together with her, Carl also started gambling.  Ultimately, Carl’s lack of attention to his work forced his employer to terminate the employment.

Awesome that he is alive.

Not sure how "well" he is though given the partying, loss of employment, gambling and the thai partner.

A bit of a shocker for most of the Aseannow armchair detectives ! ????????????

So he never went "missing", somebody just hadn't seen him around in his old haunts?

Plenty of work to keep the armchair detectives busy for a while:

The Liaison office will not comment on where Carl was located or what further action the discovery of him would entail. If he was located in Thailand, it is likely that he has been overstaying and he will therefore be deported back to Denmark.
It is also unclear exactly what motive Carl had to disappear, where he has been all these years and what he has been doing. It seems however apparent that he wished to remain cut off from his former life.

Wow! I'm impressed. Didn't know something like that existed. Glad, they found the Dane. At least, the Nordic countries care about their citizens abroad.

Carl is a butcher

Sign of the times of internet brides. I remember when it was only adventurous hippies that came here.

So, the news is more about his disappearance and not him being found.

The 'happy ending' is pure speculation.

What a non-story! Man missing, now found alive but no further details.  ????

Well he owed money to people and he is probably on overstay, so of course he wishes to disappear!

He might have been found by a smart car

So he is a fraud that faked his disappearance... Call it like it is. He went missing because he wanted too. Nothing nefarious on anyone's part but his own. Being about to stay hidden for 7 years is quite the accomplishment. Now deport him.

Nothing story ! Just another foreigner who didn't want to be 'found'

Glad he's fine, assuming he is.

Not much of a story without the sordid details of his years long disappearance. <shrug>

Presumably it is an improvement on bein missing, possibly dead.  No mention in the above part report of his immigration status.

Some have a reason..i think i know why. Some norwegians too dissaper because they have a warrant and dont want to do their jailtime in norway.I had a jailtime 21 days. That time i worked in singapore.I called the police and told where i am and what im doing. They just laugth and told me that no way they will pay my fligth to norway. They just asked me to let them know when im back.So i did after 3 years in malaysia(i worked offshore)When i arrived back i noticed them and they gave me 30 hours communtyservice instead.I painted a museum outside. My case was mild.Today its not on my criminalrecord anymore. This was 10 year ago.

Missing from who is more the question. Who needed to find him and why the obsession of trying to find him? It should have been obvious to his friend that if was still alive he was on overstay, and all he has succeeded in doing is putting him on the radar of the immigration police and people he owes money to.
