Disgruntled Thai man takes revenge - four shot dead in horrific spree

A disgruntled Thai man went on the rampage in Chantaburi in central/eastern Thailand yesterday.

Even for a country used to violent, revenge related crime this was a Sunday of sheer horror, notes ASEAN NOW.

At the end of his murder spree four people - two women and two men - were dead.

The murderer was unrepentant - he reportedly said they all deserved what they got, reported 77kaoded.

First stop for the shooter - a man called Prasit, aged 50 - was the busy Tamoon market at 3pm.

Here by the side of the Chanthaburi to Sa Kaeo Road - Route 317 - he shot his former wife Wanphen, 49, in the head. There were many witnesses.

Then he shot Wanphen's daughter Oraya, 25, in a Toyota Fortuner owner by his former wife.

Prasit then drove the Fortuner away with Oraya dead beside him.

Next stop was the area beside the temple of Wat Tham Sarika where Theerachat, 44, was shot dead.

He had borrowed 40,000 baht from Prasit and hadn't repaid him.

Then it was back in the Fortuner as Prasit headed to Ban Khao Phlu Thong where 48 year old Bunruam was gunned down.

Bunruam had sold Prasit a faulty gun.

Finally Soi Dao district police went to a bar in Nong Makha sub-district where Prasit was drinking spirits.

His daughter persuaded him to give himself up.

Chanthaburi commander Pol Maj-Gen Naradech Klomthuksing led the interrogation.

A 1.38 minute video posted on YouTube showed how the crime unfolded and finally featured the suspect sitting on a sofa as officers stood watch.

Has no one every wondered why the Thai news media focuses on crime and car accidents? Number one is to distract the public from the more important things like political unrest and corruption. Secondly

  • it seems that the gun worked fine, this article should read " 5 dead" the deranged gunman should have turn the gun on himself, his life is not worth a cracker now...

A pretty shocking event, especially for those of us who live in the quiet town of Chanthaburi.

We are accustomed to the occasional murder of a gem dealer for an unpaid debt, but this crazy guy went out and settled all his old scores in one day. Then he went to a bar and had a couple of much needed drinks.

I can only be thankful that it wasn't one of those American-style shooting sprees with random people as targets.

A lifetime in a Thai prison's probably worse than being executed.

My view of Thailand was totally reshaped from watching the nightly news on channels 34 & 36.  They seem to always go with the stories with video back-up and there is no shortage of content.   Every evening there are clips of live shootings, often several on a single broadcast and always looped over and over lest viewers miss any detail.

Put him in with the Pit Bull from Samut Prakan and whichever one comes out alive gets to be euthanised!

I have often wondered what disgruntlement looked like . . .

Seems there are a lot of disgruntled Thai men running amok. Where are the gruntled ones hiding?

I have finally found the perfect excuse not to lend money. "Sorry, I'm a demented maniac, and I may have to kill you if you don't pay back on time. It's just too risky.". Much better than the usual cowardly answer "I don't have money with me".

The "faulty" gun will come to his rescue:

He will claim he was shooting over their heads as a warning to scare them but accidentally killed them when the gun failed him!

There are many waiting to explode, that is the sad and horrible truth, they can get guns easy, and the lose face syndrome can turn them in an instant, money lending business is underai  maak maak, but not to mention these days that the worlds politicians can turn police forces into the gestapo by mandate.

Has no one every wondered why the Thai news media focuses on crime and car accidents? Number one is to distract the public from the more important things like political unrest and corruption. Secondly, if they can keep the public in fear from robbers, murderers and drug addicts, they can justify such a huge police force and secure their positions so they can keep the corruption gravy train rolling down the tracks. Why do you think the police line up to have their photographs taken after they take these scoundrels into custody? They must continue to perpetuate the pubic perception that the much needed police are heroes and are here to protect the citizenry against all the dregs of society, so they are a much needed institution. It's all just camouflage! The protection of the citizenry is way down the list of priorities, and bribes and corruption are number 1.

...however, there seems to be a steady flow coming through...(RIP those innocent unarmed folk).

This case maybe an extreme, but when reading/watching stories about crimes involving various levels of violence I often wondered why that type of behaviour seems to be more prevalent here than at least in Europe. I mean various attacks/fights with different levels of damage, seemingly very emotion-driven. Mostly men, often more than one on one side.

Sure people fight and kill everywhere, just seems more here - or is it just because of media and farang observations of these strange behaviours?

Or is there something genetic in Thai that inhibits normal development brain/psyche to control negative emotions, or is it just the culture i.e learned behaviour observing the society from childhood?

Not really familiar with details of psychology and which part of brain is not normally developed to cause this behaviour, just wondering.

Shame, it's one of those rare occasions I would have supported the police going in guns blazing and dragging his pathetic corpse out
