Naew Na Thai Caption: Spur of the moment thing - nurse uses patients ATM card to get cash

A nurse at a well known Pattaya hospital said it was a "spur of the moment thing" after she stole a dying man's ATM card and helped herself to his money.

Earlier Wilaiwan Kontrakoon, 35, had gone to Banglamung police to report that her father's ATM card and 4,500 baht from his account were missing, reported Naew Na.

Her father had been in a coma in ICU at Banglamung Hospital from January 15th for 14 days. No visits were allowed.

When he died the hospital returned his possessions and the family realized the theft.

Yesterday Wilaiwan and another relative went to the police station to thank chief Pol Col Nawin Sinthurat for a quick resolution to the case.

The police studied CCTV at the Phu Yai Kui market and saw a woman with short hair withdrawing cash from a Kasikorn ATM.

This turned out to be a nurse who worked in the ICU at the hospital and had been there for ten years.

Her name is Siriphan Lamyoong, aged 29.

She said that it was a spur of the moment thing brought on by family debts.

She apologized to the family of the dead man saying it was the first time she had done such a thing.

She was charged with theft committed on government property and using someone's electronic card to steal.

She was taken on a renenactment admitting everything saying she stole the card on February 1st in the morning and got the cash out next day in the evening.

The family said that the hospital had yet to come through on promises made that if it was their own staff who stole the money they would fully reimburse the family.

They are still waiting.

She has ruined her career and reputation for 4,500 baht.

  • And how did she get her hands on the PIN? Unless it was written on a piece of paper along with the card..

  • Thai hospitals are businesses first then patient care comes a long way 2nd.

I heard on the radio news report this morning that the PIN (written on paper) was together in his wallet with the card

Not really, with acute shortage of workers she'll move away and a new job in a jiffy... having said that, this is as low as you can stoop for human being to robe the dying.. Disgusting...

Pure evil, yet again certain Thai women showing their true despicable, evil, heartless ways. And a nurse in a position of trust and with a duty of care.

It isn't just the bar girls where stealing, frauds like romance scams and other scams and crimes flourish.

It feels like an international sport on fleecing foreigners and in this report, even when on your deathbed you are not safe.

There's low, then there's lower than the lowest, she fits that description well.

A real gutter rat, no excuses, straight to Bangkok Hilton for a couple of years and of course this is not the first time, liar.

When you say in a position of trust here, you cannot think it's the same as back home.

Here a title means nothing, i.e. where there is an opportunity, some will show their true colours, also I can't agree with you about bar girls stealing, never gave them the opportunity, although one did put her drink on my bin which I had removed because I didn't buy her a drink.

That was on his phone... and she got into that by borrowing his finger while he was in the coma!

Obviously what she did was very bad and she should be punished.

But I wonder how desperate a nurse has to be to steal an ATM card from a dying patient in the ICU and then, a day later, deduct money. That wasn't "a spur of the moment thing". After she stole the card she had a long time to think about what to do with that stolen card.

I think it was just on one of the News channels on the radio... that the hospital said, if it was one of their employees, they would refund the money.... Kasikorn take note. Mind you, it was only 4500 and may be far less than the hospital bill.

Nonsense.

Things like this case happen all over the world, it's not exclusively Thai.

And the victim was not a foreigner, by the way.

Now keep on hating...

How many times have you been in a queue at an ATM where folk get out something to read the PIN number off.....?

If the nurse was looking after him and his stuff, no doubt numbers had been found in this case...

Doubt it was her first theft.

Normally they've been doing it for years and got away with it.

Maybe just threatened to turn off one of the Drips

It does not matter how this pathetic creature got the PIN

Stealing money from someone that no longer has any use for it .........

Doesn't fit my definition of evil, in fact fairly harmless (but wrong).

It is akin to robbing from the grave... or an ambulance man going through your pockets and taking cash at the scene of an accident. Very callous and an abusement of their position of responsibility.

Respectfully , let me know when you're about to peg out and where you keep your ATM card ( with pin number ). Cheers in advance , it's for a good worth cause ( grog money )

PS If you could top up with a few hefty deposits before you move on it would really be appreciated. I swear to toast your name with each and ever drink.

????

That's OK with me.

BUT, you'll have to fight my woman for it.

I'm not bothered about what happens to my money after I'm dead.

A tragedy that so many decent, hard working Thais end up in debt.

Desperate times, my woman claims everyone she knows (family and friends) are totally broke.

And the schools now want everyone to pay for ATK tests (150bht) on their kids every week before they're allowed into school.

Right its all about fleecing foreigners, while this was a Thai ????

They don't care who they fleece its equal opportunity fleecing. (not that it makes it any better in my book)

Famous case in the UK where a doctor Shipman was killing his patients for their money, and in the US a nurse was also killing patients for money. At least this nurse only stole the money.
