BANGKOK: Thailand expects bookings from Saudi Arabia will surge as flights between the two countries resume after a 30-year hiatus, following the visit of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to Saudi Arabia late last month.

More than 200,000 people are expected to visit in 2022 with the resumption of direct flights and mutual tourism promotions. Saudi Arabian Airlines will start operating direct flights between the two countries next Monday.

The Thai government will launch roadshow events in Saudi Arabia as early as next month and tourists from the Middle Eastern kingdom will restart visits to Thailand in 2022. A break in diplomatic relations brought travel between them to a grinding halt in 1989.

Thai Airways International (THAI) reports they plan to launch direct flights between Bangkok and Riyadh in May.

After Thailand and Saudi Arabia patched things up last month after decades of cold relations, flights from Saudi Arabia to Thailand will be available starting on February 28.

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the events organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Thai tourism businesses will showcase Thai products and services to Saudi tourists interested in visiting Thailand.

Thai tourism authorities have set a lofty goal of 20 billion baht from an expected 200,000 Saudi tourists this year. Thai workers are also being screened for jobs in Saudi Arabia. Prices for flights from Saudi Arabia to Thailand start from 1,499 Saudi Arabian Riyal, about 12,850 baht.

The motive for returning blue rock & green necklace, is finally revealed. A lot of window dressing, 'Thai workers' etc., had to be slapped up before the real reason surfaces. These quality tourists have the cash. Family friendly Pattaya has the service industry. Happy Days.

Agree. And the ultimate hypocrisy they practice when praying 5 times a day to impress their god with how holy they are and then jumping on the girls all night long. Understandable I suppose, since the women in their home country are wandering around in bed sheets. They wouldn't be getting much there.

GREAT idea there. Push carts that rent out prayer rugs. Only have to work about 5 hours a day. Can place a rug anywhere. Supplies won't spoil. A bit like hookahs but fewer hours involved and socially redeeming.

I thought perhaps it was a single Saudi jumbo loaded up each and every day resulted in that number.

Well, actually they do get some.. Hehe.

Sharia law protects rapists in the peninsula.

Those countries that were under the influence of the French culture do not protect those men though...

Well he did until he realized how stoopid he sounded. What a putz. He's since "apologized".

Arrivals from RUH today? Zero (actual or scheduled).
