  • When the rest of the Thai society will rid itself of the well entrenched system of graft, under the table payments and all other means of "payments to expedite things" only than the PM will have a mod

No, no, no, no. Totally fake news. The real problem is, they will not go after these guys. Not the top bankers, not the high ranking guys, not the provincial authorities, and certainly not the army, o

Thai politicians  couldn't clean up spilt milk let alone corruption, but then when they are heavily involved themselves, what is the incentive????

He, nor any Government has the intestines to really tackle this one.

Notice that the Army is back filling their boots again too

I thought they might be talking about this case, since it hits closer to home for the PM:

Thai Army General Jailed in US$1.3 Million Fraud Case

A Thai Army General and two other accomplices have been sentenced to jail for colluding to coerce two companies into paying 43 million baht (US$1.35million) for state projects that did not exist.

In a ruling yesterday, the Criminal Court in Bangkok found General Sompote Ngerncharoen, 66, Chutikan Boonmee, and Thanankan Nanthadamrongwat guilty of committing fraud.

A former assistant leader of a team attached to the chief of staff of the Department of Defence, General Sompote was a former adviser to a commander of the Fourth Region Army.

How long were they actually locked-up ?

Why don't he starts cleaning his own front door?

Plenty of corruption going on there.

Ask the "watches" man.

55555 what a funny guy! How did they get so many comedians in the RTP and Thai politics?

This is a country where you pay for positions.

RTP especially.

Based on earning potential.

20 years won't be long enough!!

Seeing is believing.

Every division has some form of graft and corruption.

Yeh yeh, how many times have we heard this? I mean, he's only been in the seat for 8 years. Give the lad time...!!! ????

He should be serving time. Treason comes to mind.

Try and bribe a cop in NZ and see how far you get.

Are the NZ cops underpaid then at NZ$62,000+ for a constable ?

Spidermike said it all.  Even dismissing a few of the low hanging fruit without prosecution gives the lie to the headline above.

Given how Thailand has fallen down the global corruption measuring table, I'd say the PM's "corruption drive" is in reverse gear.

correct sir But even if overpaid greed would take over

Wrong.

I dont think there would be a police force anywhere in the world that does not have corruption and will never be eradicated as long as its officers are underpaid IMO .

OMG,  where do you come from??

It sounds like its normal part of life, for you?

"As evidence of this 23 officers were expelled from the force in February. A total of 19 were sacked (in Thai 'lai ork') and four dismissed ('plort ork' or let go)."

2 questions/points - what is the difference, and I wonder what rank they were?

P.S. Is the Inactive Posts Department full? ????

P.P.S. The RTP employs between 210,700 and 230,000 officers, compared to 139,000 Police Officers in the UK - a country with approximately the same population - draw your own conclusions!

Yes, we hear of cases occasionally where a high ranking official is "jailed", but it would be nice to know for how long, and also follow up articles to highlight how long they actually served!

Corruption: dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. !!!

Corruption has nothing to do with salaries !!! In every country there are people with high salaries in a position of power that are corrupt as well.!!!

This usually means they failed their performance review - to hand over enough $$$ to their superiors.

Bottom line is - the police force here is bloated and ineffective.  The military is equally so.  Hard to reform without accountability in govt.

Who, in Thailand, needs political cabaret if you have politicians with statements such as "When Thailand's current PM assumed power the best part of eight years ago he promised to end corruption in Thailand in 20 years."?

It can be eradicated overnight, if there is a will. Put a proper reporting into place, inform the officers that corruption leads to an automatic jail sentence of six months and dishonorable discharge, all the fringe benefits cut immediately - and you're sorted.

Reporting corruption should be rewarded with a juicy premium and the boys in brown would start doing, what they are paid for and what they swore when assuming duty.

Wishful thinking, Uncle Too will be leaving office anytime soon with yet another unfinished empty promise like all his predecessors before .......

I have a feeling he would get 'sorted'......

Stop Police corruption?  It's more likely to snow two feet deep in Bangkok than to stamp out RTP corruption!

When Thailand's current PM assumed power the best part of eight years ago he promised to end corruption in Thailand in 20 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Thai_Police

Thailand's police forces number about 230,000 officers. About eight percent (18,400) are female.

Quote from the OP.

"As evidence of this 23 officers were expelled from the force in February.

A total of 19 were sacked (in Thai 'lai ork') and four dismissed ('plort ork' or let go).

This brought the total for the year to 36 - 29 sacked and 7 dismissed."

36 out of 230,000 or about 0.0065%.

Wouldn't make one difference paying the BIB a massive salary, pay them 2mil. Bht per year they would still be after every corrupt Bht they could collect.
