There is an item I want to buy but I can't find it on Lazada or Shopee but I did find it on Ali Express.

Any information on shopping with them from Thailand?

Possible?

I ordered over the years probably hundred or more parcels from AliExpress.

In my experience most deliveries are between one and two weeks to Bangkok, sometimes longer.

Extreme seldom tax and duty has to be paid.

I think I had it one time that something got lost. That was easy to track and I received a replacement without hassle.

Another time something was not sent and I canceled the order. No problem.

I try to buy local because it is faster. But I don't hesitate to buy it from AliExpress.

Important for newbies: AliExpress is like Lazada not one shop. It's an interface for many shops. There are reputable shops and bad shops. Obviously it makes sense to look at the details of what you actually order. And if it sounds too good to be true than likely it is too good to be true.

With realistic expectations many shops on AliExpress are fine.

If I am not sure then I use the chat function to ask some question, basically any question, to see how fast and how competent they reply.

Maybe something to keep in mind if you're looking for something that you need urgently.

Yes I ordered a motorbike part and its on way,  takes much longer I find as it goes through chinese customs and then Thai customs.

Never had a problem exdept delivery time.

Always had slow delivery from AliExpress (like 3 months at times) even when ordering from other Chinese suppliers on Lazada at the same time. The latter can delivery within a week.

I only ever use AliExpress if there is zero other choice. Mostly the slow delivery but also the lack of COD options.

No problem with AliExpress.. 3 years shopping when the items no available in lazada. Just wait a few days. Never had a problem with Visa card and payments.

I placed a couple of dozen orders from vendors on AliExpress during my time in Thailand.  Never got shafted, and rarely had to pay any import duties on items under $500 USD.  I used my K-Bank debit card.  Delivery was sporadic, but generally 2 weeks.

I quit doing COD even on Lazada after my first few transactions came in fine.  It was a PITA to sit around waiting for the delivery guy and making sure I had cash laying around.   Back then, there was no other way to pay the driver.  There may be other payment methods available today.  In well over 100 orders from Lazada, I never really got shafted, either.

Pay up front and if you are lucky it might turn up.

I will never buy from them again.

Have bought quite a bit from aliexpress over the years, generally pretty bad quality but can be good too, many scammers so never buy anything without checking ratings and especially!!  Always read the one and two star ratings before buying. Check shop ratings and never buy from a new shop. Delivery 2 weeks to 2 months. I've had several cases where seller doesn't care about color / type or size ordered, they just send that they have in stock. I always open up a case with Ali for these cases and the normal is that i get 40 percent discount, expensive for a useless product you can just throw away. Some things are actually more expensive on aliexpress than shopee and lazada, others cheaper. Must always check all three. Don't trust what they write of course, false advertising is rampant. I've never had to pay any taxes. Some buys from aliexpress have been great, very happy with my 66 inch ceiling fans (feel sorry for the Thailand Post workers delivering them on motorcycle) ???? I've never had to pay any taxes

And last, don't select product and then look for the cheapest shop selling it! Check ratings and pay a bit extra if you have too.

I assume COD not possible right?

Depends on the vendor, I've ordered COD from AE, though not as common as LAZ.

Do the same as you would with any vendor, read reviews, cross reference.  Take a peek out Banggood also, another good site, same as LAZ & AE, hosting vendors.

Dirty little secret about some sellers on Lazada (and I presume, Shopee).....

Some vendors on Lazada appear to sell products THEY order from Ali Express... after you place your order with them (the Lazada seller).  I bought something on Lazada from the only "local" shop that was selling it.  Price was 2X the price of Ali Express shops but I didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery.  The Lazada shop said they had it "in stock" with delivery in 2-3 days.  A few minutes after ordering, the order was marked as packed and ready to ship.  Can only cancel if shop agrees at that point.

Several days passed and it didn't ship.  Via chat they said they were hoping to ship out by the end of the week.  I pressed them another few days later that and they said they were waiting for shipment from their supplier in China.

It's pretty clear the game they were playing.

If non delivery you have to wait 75 days now for refund, went up from 60 to 90 now 75. Good news is my last delivery arrived in 2 weeks

I have been buying things there for years. It is pretty problem free. I found it so much easier than trying to buy locally and being told "no haab" or Ow o sto" (although I use Shopee now). Be advised that free postage or cheap postage is often very slow - 26 weeks, sometimes more but things always arrive within the dates set. Non arrivals are rare and happen mostly by stuck in China customs. Sellers seem aware of this problem and have sent again.

Those using Thai bank debit cards, are you using one with or without your name on it?

Some geniuses listing items on Lazada (presumably same same on AliExpress) list items from actual vendors, including all pictures and blurbs, at 3x price!! They presumably buy cheap and sell expensive after people who don't compare prices and ratings order... Vermins!

i guess that some people are happy to live in their own world and know nothing.

Your comment does not make sense.

I have lived here for more than 20 years and I too have never used Ali Express.

No need.

I can get pretty much everything that I want from Thailand.

I do not see the need to fund the CCP in its ambitions.

I have purchased on Ali Express.  All I can say is buyer beware.  A couple of the purchases went through without a problem however on one the picture showed 4 of the items but when the confirmation came through via email is said I was receiving only 2.  I immediately cancelled but the merchants said it was too late that the package had already been shipped despite the fact that both Ali Express and my Credit Card company showed the payment as "pending"

I refused the package, and am still dealing with this and that was a purchase in December.

On Lazada and Shopee any problems with damaged, missing, or items not as described are quickly resolved. Ali Express won't even let you post a claim for weeks after the merchandise has arrived.

I have found everything I need until now on Lazada so I don't even have an account on Shopee.

But I checked there this time.

Google told me Ali Express has it.

Sure I know of them just as I know of Amazon (have an old account there).

But I try to avoid shipping from China or the US  even on Lazada but sometimes have to ship from China.

I have not been here 20 years but freely admit there is a lot I don't know. There is no shame in that.

No name on it.

Works for online buying in Thailand.

Will that be a problem on Ali?

Ali Express is effectively the retail arm of Ali Baba. Though I have bought single items from Ali Baba, I have found good experience from Ali Express that is similar in business model as Lazada.

Only go to Ali Express when Lazada doesn't have what I am looking for (not very often).

But wherever you buy from online it is wise to do some checking on various aspects of the product and its Provider.

I try not to buy expensive items online if I can buy locally. The most expensive item I have bought is a Pandora bracelet for about B6,000. It did come with a certificate of authenticity!!

From purchases out of Thailand, delivery takes longer but on only one occasion did I pay import duty.

Yes, buying from Ali Express and AliBaba is easy and have paid either with PayPal or with my SCB debit card

I've used them and delivery took a little longer than Lazada.

I used an American CC no problems.

No, but AliExpress has a decent escrow system that doesn't release the funds until you (not the courier) confirm delivery.

It does have a time-out so if something hasn't turned up you need to either start a dispute or extend the time or it will automagically release the funds (that's how it worked in the past, it might have changed).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
