Elite Thai police units arrest Ukrainian tax evaders living in Phuket after raiding their luxury villa

Scenes from Tuesday where Thai police units with the Crime Suppression Division and Central Investigation Bureau together with the Hanuman task force took 37-year-old Oleksandr Y. and 39-year-old Oleg O. into custody on the foot of a Criminal Court warrant pending their extradition to the United States on charges relating to an illegal employment racket in Florida.

Thai police have announced the arrest of two Ukrainian nationals at a villa in Phuket who are wanted in the United States in respect of outstanding taxes and criminal charges concerning the operation of a recruitment racket that supplied labour to the hospitality industry in Florida and which generated at least ฿337 million or $9.95 million in tax arrears over a 14 year period.

 

The operation on Tuesday was launched by units of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Hanuman task force in liaison with the US Department of Homeland Security.

 

The two men, a 37-year-old and 39 year old, were implicated in sheltering illegal aliens and running an illegal employment racket in Florida from 2007 and 2021 which turned over ฿2.5 billion while failing to pay taxes due.

Elite Thai forces including officers of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) and the armed Hanuman Special Operation unit took part in the arrest of two Ukrainian nationals in Phuket on Tuesday, April 19th in a coordinated operation with the US Department of Homeland Security.

Arresting on tax evasion is easier than getting a court order for arresting human trafficking. Once arrested, they can build their case or fail, depends on how dedicated the prosecutors are. As reminder, Al capone was arrested and convicted of tax evasion not for any other crimes.

Let's not forget, the brutal ganster, Al Capone was finally arrested & convicted for tax evasion. I highly doubt any of his money was legal.

... 555, yeah, one should think so but I've personally seen the 'tax invoice' of a bloke gotten busted smuggling acid trips (aka. sheets of blotting paper with drops of Lyserg, essentially) down to Austria from A-dam.

That was back in the 1990s and on top of the criminal charges of course ... heard about other, similar cases repeatedly as well ...

Many illegal activities have front where money is laundered and in the US, one must pay taxes on the laundered money also. These are two separate cases. And each requires separate charges and burden of proof on the Government without any reasonable doubts. In the USA even stolen money one must declare and pay taxes. THey carry two separate charges and two separate sentences. One for not paying tax and another for stealing. May be prosecutors can only prove he did not pay tax but could not prove the money was stolen. So he will get only sentence for not paying tax. Every criminal case must be proven with preponderance of evidence. In civil cases preponderance of evidence is not required.

I understood this as a Hindu issue and looked it up on Wikipedia which states under "Hanuman" that he is "generally known as the God of wisdom, strength, courage, devotion and self-discipline. In Thailand though Hanuman is known as a promiscuous and flirtatious character. "

Nice manipulation in the name of the article, they lived long time in the USA, from 2007 and 2021 so minimum what they gat it was green card, or even American citizenship, It is hard to believe they managed to do such activity being completely illegal in the country
