I believe it is considered as a tax rebate.  Americans overseas are liable for taxes on foreign earned income.

and also any income generated back in the States

Lord knows we’ve suffered enough from an inflated Baht.  Will ride this horse a long as we can.

UK could publish the greatest financial figures ever and the pound would just blip for 24 hours before settling lower against the baht.

It has been rising for almost decades and made a million people 401K/real asset millionaire last year alone. It has to take a break and resume its gain again maybe by next year if no recession hits or within another three years if a  recession hits.

Although the current S&P price is actually lower now than what it was one year ago .

Previously on this forum some posters were claiming that the S&P guarantees you at least a 6 % per year interest gains .

Lucky that I didnt invest, otherwise I would have lost money

hey I made my large yearly transfer a couple of months ago, it was dropping pretty fast so I didn't want to take a chance and wait, only got 32.12, if I did they same transfer today it would be over 30,000 baht more, if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all - 555

Laughed at the last line—perfect.  Sorry you missed the party this week.  Better luck next time.

I always measure based on what it costs to take 25,220 out of a Bangkok Bank ATM - - - 25,000 for me, and a 220 baht fee for them.

Last year, in mid-February, it cost me $844.

Last Wednesday, it cost me $747.

Today, if my timing were perfect, it would cost me $737.

Of course, in all three cases, I'd wind up with 25,000 baht in my pocket. 555 So these really just measure of how much money gets left behind in my U.S. bank account: Sometimes more, sometimes less.

But as things stand now......... as opposed to a year ago........ I could easily make one withdrawal one month, and two the next........... into perpetuity. ("In perpetuity" meaning until the exchange rate becomes unfavorable, again! ????????????)

My wife........ who also collects Social Security.......... wants to know why I didn't wait until THIS week to take the money out! I told her: "There was an unforeseen delay in my 'Spice' shipment from Dune, so I lost my ability to see into the future............."

She didn't get it. Once again, I had to laugh alone!

????????????

Cheers!

Just because of interest hike in the US.
Inflation at 8%. They better increase the interest fast and steep.

That's what you get when you print money quicker then Usain Bolt runs the 100m.

A few bubbles will burst.

I still think it is hillaryous THAT UNCLE JOE  and Aosee give  money to people t hat live outside the country.

Might also be a bit jealous as Petit Pierre has not done the same for me.  LOL

You must have been rolling in the aisles when Trump's tax cut for the rich and corporations happened: 1/4 of that went abroad.

S&P is falling because of FED rate hike (which leads to higher dollar value) and FED control of money and investors are drumming up the fear of a US recession. A good time to buy as much BAHT as possible.

If this puppy hits 35, I might have to bring over another pile of cash....whether I need it or not.  Finally some good news from the USA!

The Bulletproof Baht may be down, but it is never OUT. It's the Superman of currencies.

Is the Baht actually down ? or is that the $US is stronger, its over a 10 high against the Yen.... The Baht seems to be just as steady on the other currencies..

US dollar is sucking up all the air in capital flows attracted by the prospect of US rate hikes and the safe-haven sanctuary fanned by impending slow growth in China and Europe. All currencies bow to the mighty dollar but for how long. Big rate hikes and inflation will deflate US domestic spending and will lead to unemployment and recession. When the situation improve in China and Europe, US dollar will reverse course. Baht will recover with the impertus from trade surplus in March and the better tourist in-flows post May. Those who wish to take advantage of the weak Baht for exchange purposes need to time yourself to reap the best reward.

USD to THB now at $1 to 34.39, going to transfer a few thousand more USD to bulk up my everyday account.  Last 12 hour snap shot

General elections are due in less than 12 months, so huge loads of cash stashed abroad will need to be brought back and converted to Baht for buying votes, so we can expect this to drop a bit more and be at that level for a while.

Or the election means losers will be investigated by the winning party so time to ship out shedloads of baht before corruption charges are raised.

Silly question but is it a good time to transfer money into thailand

If you're transferring 268 USD like another poster, does it really make a difference.?

40 Baht per $$ by years end. -  Oh wait!!  -  I said that last year.............oh well, this may entice some tourists, 34 baht per $$ is nothing to sneeze at.

As it got closer to 34 I started converting USD to THB.

I converted minutes ago at 34.224. Like you I've been waiting and as the baht weakens I'll convert more.

I trust the Thai banks no more and no less than USA banks.

Fiat currency is fiat currency. The difference is that here I can buy/sell gold with no ID, no record at all.

Duh!

See my earlier post in this thread.

When I came here in late 2016, it was over 35. A year later I decided to stay and have waiting for a weak baht ever since.

Time to transfer a chunk of my USDs to my Thai bank.

Thank you president Biden ????

The authorities are trying their best to avoid publishing real unemployment numbers. There are multiple segments of the Thai economy that are in bad shape, due to what appears to be incredible sabotage and neglect. It is a miracle the baht has remained as strong as it has been, for as long as it has. Now, perhaps it is time for reality to set in.

Pretty easy to pat yourself on the back when you get to choose the dates. Should someone consider themselves lucky if they decided not to make that S&P investment 10 years ago?

Best thing that can happen for tourism - more spending power for them - with Thai currency dive...idiots manipulating their currency - as has been levelled by US each year that can analyse that stuff.

Next 6 months rate rises

Housing tumble 10 to 15%

US a real mess, Americans can onlt blame themselves

Over a 10-year period, you would not have lost money. Yes, if you had invested last year only, this your your total would have been down.

Yes, but I was just pointing out that the S&P 500 isn't a guaranteed 6% interest investment return , as some people on this forum previously claimed .

I think I would also do so. I need cash when my daughter goes to University in a few years.

It's not guaranteed every year. who ever claimed that not a savvy investor.

It's down against USD...the measuring stick...but your point is well taken. USD is strengthening and up against most other currencies.

Excellent point. Compared to a month ago, the baht is actually up against the Euro, the Yuan, and the Yen.
