30 years in total- I think my time is up

Why is it all the  time we are subjected to attempts at price gouging, additional airport fees dual pricing,  and ridiculous  nationalistic and jingoistic government behavior.

I am not skint, I can live any Asian country and I really am sick of soundbites from authority figures that make me feel I am a burden.

I won't let the door slap me on the ass on my way out.

The problem is that we know exactly why.  'Tis the nature of the beast.

Exactly.  I started giving my Thai partner 20K baht a month 13 years ago to pay for food, water and electric. I still give her 20K baht a month and if anything we eat better now than then. I have offered many times to increase the amount, but she always refuses and tells me if she runs short she'll let me know. So if the cost of living has increased, it's negligible.

Expectation for me is the key to many experiences in life

I don't expect to be welcomed with open arms wherever I go, I don't expect everyone to be smiley happy every day, I let my wife pay so she is aware of any 'additional charges' I don't trouble myself with that ????

I don't expect governments to make my life easy, I don't expect to own anything in Thailand, I don't expect my teenage children to understand me ????

I don't expect to have all things my own way

Above all I don't expect to hang around if I am not at averaging at least 90% on the rolling happiness chart

Enjoy your next adventure best wishes

i would rather be gouged on consumption (import taxes in thailand) than home ownership (council tax in the uk)

airport fees! Much much lower than flying out of the uk.

nationalism.....I can't understand Thai so I don't hear it. and if I did its probably better than the woke, leftie feminised uk

if you find a better third option do let us know.

I've a hard time believing things are so bad.......if you've been through all that's happened in 30 years here.  Good luck finding a better country in SE Asia.....especially at your age.

CH is right.  Why let this bother you?  I see the news and laugh.  In the end it really does not impact me at all.  I am still enjoying an outstanding life here and WAY cheaper and no noise.  I always laugh when people whinge about dual pricing. So to enter a park cost you double.  What is that like $5.  ????

If you don't think electric has increased the past 13 years you are kidding yourself.

Food and cooking gas as well.

What is it with expats falling apart when faced with issues not effecting them in a meaningful way?

I do know that the 20K still covers all the same things it did 13 years ago. Fact. Try to see how far 20K (about A$200 a week) goes in Australia for two people.

Suffice to say, Thailand is unique in their world view, and my days here are numbered. I'm with you, bud. Ignore the people on here who are Thaier than Thais.

Best on your new journey...

You might need a break from Asean Now rather than Thailand. It's funny how they'll have an article about these things each few days. The same posters are all riled up and each get 30 likes for the same comments made a few days before. Write an article and they will come.

Maybe just live your life, listen to the birds, enjoy the food and the heat and the company you keep and forget about the daily nonsense.

Then again after 30 years in Thailand I get that you could be bored to tears and something new will be what you need.

Couple of nice thoughtful replies there.

Leaving Thailand 2 years ago to avoid the covid cobblers,

got heaps of things going on, and I don't want

to go back. Free to do as I please here.

The missus want to come here too, fed up with Thailand.

Damn.

I feel ya man.  In spite of what some on here would have you believe, all the <deleted> can grind you down.

On the other hand . . .    the less you care the happier you will be!

Rents in west are crazy high. 10000 baht a month vs 100,000 baht same thing.

Where hasn't it......

Much less of a baseline cost here......

In the states it cost me almost $100 per month just to keep the pilot lights lit - years ago....$200+ a month for cable/internet (Comcast)....

We spend pennies to dollars here - and are lucky to do so.....

We had been spending months in the US RVing before Covid every year = and every year it was a new case of sticker shock.....

We're going back once the flights/C19/travel difficulties stabilize.....I have a feeling the sticker shock is going to be horrific.....

We live in privilege here - and - we are privileged to live here....

Don't let the noise/static/petty annoyances get to you.....

We are spoiled for good life choices here.....

That greener grass on the other side of the fence = isn't.....

What you guys seems to forget or ignore, is the crazy livingcost back where you coming from, new taxes like environment tax on everything and anything, gas en electric more than doubled in many countries.

good luck to find another place to complain about.

But have to say, been back home for 3 months, I say yes to both places will do for me.

I sometimes feel the say way, but when I try booking a flight to Utopia, the computer says "no hab". I still think the good days here far outweigh the bad days. Don't let the small stuff get to you.
