Are there shops in Bangkok that custom make athletic/running shoes? Can you recommend one pls? I wear 10.5 but extra wide. Thanks.

Don't know any shops making custom made running shoes.

But online asics have 2 top running shoe models kayano and nimbus in extra wide ie size 4E and your size is available in 2 colours of each model. They do COD I think. You can access their site, filter for size 2E or 4E wide.

Other options are Brooks but it seems their 4E in your size is sold out. They have Ghost in a size 11 in 4E wide. They have some shoes in 2E wide adrenalines and ghosts and maybe other models. Brooks store is in Muang Thong Thani if you want to try on their 2E or available 4E sizes.

Asics also have an outlet in MTT where they might have some shoes in 4E to try on.

Other option may be Hoka but it looks they only have normal and wide.

I need to order some new shoes too. I found if you ship them to Malaysia there is no duty. Amazon and ebay have global shipping programs. The duty is about $50 usd for the shoes is want.

I wonder if i can send them to the guesthouse i usually go to in George town, then pick them up at later date because it take 2-4 delivery time. I guess they need a name to receive the item, would it be too much to ask the owner or manager to accept them?

That is very helpful. Thank you for taking the time.

I wear 48/49 and they just laugh at me when I ask if they have a 48 at a Thai shoe store. I see quite a few Thai men with large feet so there must be some stores that sell sizes larger than 46.

I just ordered a pair of some generic trainers in size 49 off Lazada. I’ve yet to receive them so I can’t comment on the quality or if the sizes run true but Lazada has a liberal return policy so it might be worth checking there.

Hi Guitar God. How is it? May I know the website please.

Just go to Lazada site, "enter shoes size 49" and you get a whole page of results.

I had a similar struggle finding a size 47 slip-on loafer, but I finally found a great pair by chance. I ended up discovering Melissa shoes while browsing online. They don’t typically make slip-ons, but their other styles, like the flats I tried, were surprisingly comfortable and stylish. For finding a specific size, you might want to try some specialized shoe stores or check out online retailers that offer a wide range of sizes. Sometimes, online options can have what you’re looking for even if local shops don’t.

Thanks so much for your helpful, not to say speedy, response but in the year and eight months since I posed the question I have had several pairs of shoes made to measure by a local shoemaker.

I wear size 46. I have been able to find that size in Central Department Store here in Pattaya, but type of shoe is limited.  I tend to order large sizes for clothing and shoes from Amazon in US -- they cost more of course when you add shipping cost.  Also, when ordering Amazon also includes a deposit for custom duty.

I also use Amazon for my size 47 but I was about to order a quality sandle for $55 however the total with duty was $115 !

I wear size 45 and find Tesco occasionally has the larger sizes available, but it's still really hit and miss.

Tesco? In Thailand? They sold up years ago. You mean Lotutttt?

Tesco sold out a few years ago.  Now it is just "Lotus's".

Not in my neighborhood. I don't care legally what they call themselves, they still have a big ol' "Tesco" sign on top of the building that can be seen for miles. As well, Tesco.com takes you right to their online shopping.

Why bicker about a fine point? If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck . . .

Better to be accurate.

I am looking for a size 47 Euro (13 US) slip-on loafer or similar. Went to a bunch of shops in Central World today but no luck. Any suggestion where to look? I don't care what brand as long as it's a decent leather. Thanks.

Try Robinson Dept. store. Several folks mentioned that this is their goto place for large size. You may have to pay a bit more.

I have had problems finding my size shoes, 45.  When I have found them in that nominal size (in Lotus Mae Sot and Robinson's Chiang Mai) they were too small.
But I got a pair of Adidas gym-shoes in 45 that fitted, in a Robinson's Mae Sot sale.
And I ordered canvas ankle-boots in 45 from two different manufacturers, via AliExpress.  Both pairs were two small and had to be given away.

A German neighbour has told me that German- and French-made shoes are one size larger than the same nominal size made in Italy.
Chinese and Thai makers tend to copy Italian designs, and so probably also go by Italian measurements.
So you may need to order one size larger than usual, especially if ordering on-line from Asia.

p.s. I have purchased sandals that fitted me from Decathlon in Chiang Mai (more choice in their store on the Highway than that at Tapei Gate).

...you can be pretty sure it isn't Tesco.

And where would your neighbourhood be?

Tesco.com takes you to Tesco UK.

A fortune awaits the shop that stocks shoes in the 46-48 size and carries wide shoes too. So many are looking yet not one shop keeper or owner has yet to be the first! Maybe I’m just not the sharpest tool in the box but this is an easy layup
