You've never walked down walking street or other ‘red light areas’ of Pattaya and been ‘groped’ by Ladyboys and bar-girls ??? - its difficult to avoid - and no, I don’t like it, but it comes with he t

  • I'm all up for a punishment for a random grope of a woman, but how the hell one grope is worth 200k in damages while the life of someone burned to death due to multiple negligent actions is worth 50k?

Oh my Buddha! For 200k he could have had many wonderful groping sessions, receiving a grateful wai after each one.

I'm in Pattaya right now on Soi Satan and every girl is wearing a shirt that says,

"200,000"

OMG................I'm never going to get close to another person again!!!!!

200,000 is crazy UNLESS.......UNLESS.....this drunk idiot really went over the top.  I'm imagining him grabbing her butt.............maybe he didn't allow her to leave and it went on for quite some time.

I've had many, many, many people grab my arm and stomach (usually older guys unfortunately) ......

I've heard rumors of kids in bars getting drunk in a very crowded place and randomly touching a girl's behind........200,000 each.   Again, it was probably much worse here.

maybe she started with 20,000,000,000,000 baht and the guy said 200k?

How did they know it was him ? Did he do it and just stand around waiting to get arrested ?

If the maximum fine was 5000 bht then why is he giving her 200k ????

I am wondering how they calculated this amount of money ... 200k is very overpaid or is it because it is a foreigner?? Than it is a good advertisement for the tourism. after non solving robberies now extreem payments for..........

maybe it is revenge for the necklace/insurance paperwork that they need to fill out..

I see from the linked article that the Indian, just another low-class tourist that Thailand attracts like a bee to honey, is being charged not with assault but for causing chaos in public. Chaos? Really?

Had she turned around and whacked him one, and then enrolled the help of a few WIN guys, or similar, he may have got a similar treatment that last weeks samosa thief got.

So now, does his agreement to pay her for his groping now officially classify her as a "working girl"? ????

They are telling this of Lord Beaverbrook and a visiting Yankee actress. In a game of hypothetical questions, Beaverbrook asked the lady: ‘Would you live with a stranger if he paid you one million pounds?’ She said she would. ‘And if be paid you five pounds?’ The irate lady fumed: ‘Five pounds. What do you think I am?’ Beaverbrook replied: ‘We’ve already established that. Now we are trying to determine the degree.

It's all about money, I wonder how they agree on the price of 200,000 for a grope? If he pays out we are all in trouble, even the working girls will make much more money being groped

I would imagine that the squeeze was put on him in the cop shop. Lots of sacremongering and threats, it's how they operate in there when there is an opportunity

200,000? But a ladyboy bashes a Farang and is sent home with a 500 baht fine? Double standards? There is now a hefty financial incentive for false accusations. I wonder what percentage went to the police involved?

Sad to see all the victim blamers. Pattaya is a tourist city, as much as people who come for other reasons don't think so. Walking Street is a major tourist attraction and it's open late. Not every single women walking there at 3AM or any time is a prostitute and even the ones that are, you can't just grope them all freely. Those saying it's a setup, there's CCTV evidence of what he did and he seemed more than willing from the start to just pay for everything to go away rather than any protests about a setup or even attempts to deny what he did after he was caught.

Do not touch anyone, anytime unless it is clear that it is OK to do so.

Just seems a bit scamy, woman walking so late at night in known area of prostitutes. Thailand is known for police scams teaming up with civilians.

Yes but this one went out of hand.. ????

This poor Indian finally understood that if he offered the dancer a cash offer for a full massage he would save and enjoy more.

Had the exact thing happen to me in Taiwan about 4 yrs ago and guess what the girl "asked for"?? (street-side/with cops there).....Yup, 200,000nt (235,000b). Only thing is I made sure I went right to the cop station to get myself on video as I had no idea how many of them were in on it. Got myself on tape pointing to the 2 cops in the office looking at the cameras (girl/her bf didn't enter of course).

My friends in the Taiwan attaché office + Investigation Bureau looked into it the next day and the 2 cops questioning me + girl were caught. Plus the girls' bf was in police training school and had the 2 corrupt cops' phone numbers in his phone so they were all connected (including calls to each other that night earlier). The bf / cop-in-training was ousted righted away. Then a short time later one of the "bad" cops got caught doing something else. So, he ratted to the "good" cops about the other intoxicated foreigners they had previously targeted so to get a good plea bargain!! So, they had enough to get them all.

Can't believe they got away with it for a while as I knew it was a scam right away and then my police friends noticing the one SCTV camera on my regular Saturday night course home / in front of my place, was turned away 2 days earlier. But "on" SCTV were the cops lying in wait up the street in their cruiser as the girl screamed and I then wondered how the cops got there so fast when they usually just drink tea at the station and don't patrol normally. These guys were amateurs but got away with it for a bit it seems.

Not saying the guy here in Pattaya didn't do it (but think they had video of him) but I sure didn't, and I feel myself lucky I had authorities in higher places to look into it all.

But seems the scam may have hit Thailand now!!......or others were just educated with this whole story!!!

Approximately 5000USD, rounded up. A number I have heard before.

Hopefully this shameful behaviour and it's out come will be given publicity in India to warned all would be tourists to behave themselves and respect the host country, something that is right now surly lacking...

This is exactly the point of this made for T.V horse and pony show....

I will lay good money there have lots and lots of reports of many Indians not behaving well...So the A team was standing in wait for the next inappropriate touching........They then bagged a Indian......And are now making a HUGE show of it to warn others....

And about a 99.99% chance the 200,000 baht number is a complete fabrication.......With the real fine a fraction of this...

For the record - I believe anyone should be free to go anywhere they please (legally) and be free from inappropriate and illegal behaviour.

At the same time, I also believe people have to be realistic and look after themselves.

The issue is somewhat more complex than the ‘black and white’ arguments we have read in the other thread...  Life exists beyond absolutes of the black and white world of right and wrong... Life exists in the grey area, issues become multifaceted, they overlap, intertwine, there is accountability...

In this case the behaviour of the man was clearly wrong, but the lady also carries a certain amount or moral accountability to herself for placing herself in such an area in the first place.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but that is the reality of the real world beyond absolutes.

I’d never take my Wife to such an area, and there’s a reason why.

Without casting aspersions to the current victim, but there are so called "high class working ladies" well dressed, well spoken, that do frequent "hot spots" . Maybe we will see some of them at walking street at 3am.

It's This type of behavior should never happen to anyone and  by no!

But the amount that is what happens when you visit and they got you backed against the wall.

Even a few Wai,  photo op, some flowers,  wouldn't have gotten forgiveness.

Aside from the incident this was extortion at its best by the police,  more payout for many motorbike accidents, more if a car hit someone and injure them at s crosswalk,  4 times the amount offer by the so call owners at the night club that had the fire that killed over 20, 9 times the amount for the burn victims, and 5 times the salary of the teacher? She might be thinking hell I'm in the wrong profession?  I can see a message sent here to even those who are married Or sponsor to think twice. One wonders if we won't see her more often visiting friend on W. S.

At that amount it might have been a message for those frisky Indians in the future one wonders if a customer doesn't BF, not enough drinks, all of a sudden she goes to the manager and?????????

And they say Indians got no money hereafter I would hate to be Indian visiting here is this a message also?

Thais will lose a few Indian tourists over this, but not the sort of tourists that you'd want really.

I don't know, but during my four years living and working in Delhi, my blonde daughter was groped several times, always in crowds so you couldn't pick out the perpetrator. She was thirteen years of age. She was with me or another adult each time, I wouldn't allow her out on her own.

At least the Chinese seem to keep their hands to themselves.

I was one of those that questioned her time for going to walking street.  I still stand behind that comment. Still stand behind my comment.  Going out by yourself into an area like Walking street at midnight to 2 am period is not the safest thing to do.  I would suggest that it is comparable to walking down the old Yonge street in Toronto in the 80's or times square in NYC now.  Yes the lights and action are amazing to see but...

As to the perpetrator, the fact that he is Indian is important to note. an average of 86 cases daily are raped in India.  India still has a long-standing issue with females and safety in their country.

Now add in alcohol consumption and the same lights and the girls that attract this man and it ramps up his desires as well as his lower his inhibitions.

So..  the next foreigner who walks down Walking street and gets their crotch grabbed by a ladyboy, can they report it and get 200,000 baht ???

And therein lies the rub?

Countless times on this forum alone we have seen ladyboys assault foreigners, it gets reported and the ladyboys get a 500 baht fine and are back on the street.

Perhaps he is one of these wealthy Indians. we hear about??

And Pattaya's reputation has been fully restored for 200k now how much for the police to lose the paperwork ????

the victim's willingness to put herself in that setting needs to be taken into consideration when assessing damages.

she is walking on a public street... and attacked from and in the behind... I don't think she needs to prove she is not a sex worker nor do I think he should attack a sex worker in unwanted fashion either... her butt ain't a free grab... I think 200,000 is fair game - - I just don't know of a situation where it is more acceptable to molest someone...
