Would like to take a moment to remember another long serving monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadei who fulfilled his duties with great grace and dignity and is loved and missed as well.

The Queen was dedicated to the position and with all the tradition etc., not a job I think many of us could do, with all those restrictions. She was compassionate and caring yet firm and strong when needed. I doubt we will see the like of her again. My most sincere sadness at The Queens passing.

When my wife first visited the UK and we went to London, we were outside Buckingham Palace and the gates opened and HM was in the back of the vehicle, we were 3m from her, my wife got it on video, she never forgets this moment.

As a Canadian, it was my honour and privilege to meet her twice and to serve as a liaison to HMS Britannia.

She is someone that a lot of leaders could take some lessons from in humility and ethics.

A side note

 

One thing that I think many will miss is that not only was she a grand queen and leader, BUT she was also a great mentor that set the path and involved her family is the requirements of the monarchy so that they were prepared to take her place.

 

Charles and William, as well as Camilla and Kate, know exactly what their roles are and what the country expects of them.  For the British monarchy, it is not about the money or the lifestyle it was and still is about the dominion.

 

 

I am not a royalist, IMO it is long overdue for Australia to cast off an anachronism.

Having said that, nothing but respect for someone who served her country beyond the call of duty, and also held together one of the most dysfunctional families around. RIP.

As I recall, coins issued during the reigns of King George VI, King George V, King Edward VII and even Queen Victoria remained in circulation up until decimalisation in 1971. Is there really any reason for supposing that things will be any different now?

 

(To the best of my knowledge, no coins were issued during the brief reign of King Edward VIII, though).

Prior to and up to decimalization coins with Victoria on them were still legal tender.
