The Minister of the Interior says a proposal for foreigner land sales is ready to be cancelled if the Thai people don’t agree.

 

November 3rd a meeting on foreign land owning was held at the Parliament. Mr. Suthin Klangsang from the Puea Thai party asked the government about the foreign land ownership law.

 

Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda responded that this issue is still in the Council of State process.

 

Anupng said that the government might change some rules such as increasing investment to 100 million baht or the period to invest to be allowed to purchase land from three years to ten years. If people still do not agree, the law can be cancelled entirely.

The stupidity is beyond, human thoughts , keep Thailand as it was centuries ago. This is 2022 not 1932 , This country can try to do anything but believe me it will be a failure to 100% . Where are the intelligent Thai people that can make a difference ? I assume the the elite here in Thailand won't let them and  I have an Idea but it might be best to keep it for my self. Good luck rouling parties to to something if there is any consideration to normal people here in the land of smiles...

The only question is, who are the Thai people?? Probably it are the 1% elite and the Government, as most Thais are too uneducated to understand what the Government is doing, because if they opened their eyes see what is going on in THailand , there would be a lot of problems for the Government and these 1 %.

Please tell me where I can buy 5 rai for 300k that is Chanote or Nor sor sam. If you do not have that then your "lease contract" is totally null and voidable..

Prices are insane these days, at least here in the south 

1 Rai (rubber), in the boonies, will be minimum half a mil.

Next to  a provincial road, still in the boonies, as much as 2 or even 3.????????????

 

No one in their right mind would buy even if passed, lest they have the rug pulled from under them. Thailand is for Thais. Rent rent rent! ????

Lol - people are upset when the proposal was to have foreigners invest (at least) 40 million baht for a minimum of 3 years before being allowed to buy 1 single rai of land, so lets increase the requirement to 100 million baht that has to be invested for a minimum of 10 years before you can buy that one tiny rai of land !!

That'll surely make it an acceptable proposal for the "people" !

I'm sure so many investors around the world were flooding the government with requests to invest over $1 million US for 3 years that the gov't decided there must be at least as many willing to invest $2.6 million for 10 years in exchange for the right to (eventually) buy a single rai of land.

This harkens back to what seems to be the marketing strategy taught in Thai business schools.

If something doesn't sell, increase the price !
If it still doesn't sell, increase the price even more !
If it still doesn't sell - oh well, you went bankrupt and had to sell your investment for pennies on the dollar but hey ! There'll surely be another sucker along in a minute to try the same strategy again.

I'll see if my bank will increase my ATM withdrawals.

Might as well just cancel it all , no one is going to bite at those terms,

especially when a future Government changes the goal posts again,

and you are forced to sell,at a loss.

"which I can live on and off of, until I die" he speaks about a life time 100% usufruct that actually is the best solution in my opinion.

It's not the Thai population upset by the proposal; it's only a few xenophobic political types running around screaming the sky is falling like Chicken Little in order to embarrass the current govt and to feed their xenophobia.

Obviously I'm not Thai, but I hope they do cancel it. Allowing foreign "investors" to buy in NZ has IMO and that of many been a disaster, and I think the Thais are right to not allow such in LOS.

Sounds like they already know the idea isn't popular.

 

If it is deemed inappropriate or wrong for foreigners to own land (or more than 49% of a condo building), then the Thai government should also pass laws prohibiting Thais to own land/property in other countries, no?  Either it's okay to own land in another country, or it's not.

Well, I dug down the back of the sofa and found 100 million baht I had forgotten about. Now I just have to decide where to invest it:

 

Option #1: tie it all up for ten years so I can buy 1 rai of jungle in the sticks

Option #2: send it to the Nigerian prince who is offering big rewards in return for a little financial help

 

Difficult choice, but I'm leaning towards #2 as the safer and wiser investment.

Fippity flip flop.  Yes, poll all 50 million Thai adults on this one issue.  Pray-hoot democracy in action or say inaction. Don't consult Thai people on critical issues affecting millions, but this issue affects nobody and Let the People decide.  How about leaving Military about of politics and government,  letting People decide government. 

There’s no need to ask the Thai people as the Foreigner's don’t want your amazing deal.

You can go ahead and cancel the proposal now!

This whole miserable government will also hopefully be cancelled at the next election too.

My GF of many years just bought a little over half a rai right outside of KK for 300,000. Now waiting for the power company, for power.

 Can be cancel if Thai don't agree! ????

If that was really true non of these jacka----would be in office.
