The 2009 'crackdown' was about hotels etc reporting foreigners on their premises and Rohingyas on charges of involvement in an international human smuggling ring. so nothing to do with what I was referring to.

 

The 2017 crackdown was more on point, about illegal immigrants and over-stayers, but only in Phuket?

It was your "I dont recall the first one ?" which I responded to.  Please tell me where I wrote that you said there wasn't a crack down in my response.  To assist you I posted some links so that you could do some research before you posted regarding the subject and so that you were aware there had been.  It does amaze me that on some of the your posts I respond to you do write "I dont recall? It's like your stating you need help in recalling, and that is exactly what I did to assist you by posting the aforementioned links on the Crackdowns.  However, no matter how hard I do try and give you the material you always come back with a snide remark. So with that one can never have a rational debate with you as you always get seemingly offended.  With that being said, enjoy your day.

Refugees ?  Russia has not been Invaded or attacked. They are the aggressor that has invaded Ukraine. The Russian people here are happily sunning themselves on Thai beaches, whilst families just like theirs in a neighbouring Soviet country, are being bombed out of their homes.   GO HOME AND FIGHT PUTIN.

I worked on a few projects last year with a Russian/Ukrainian team: Russian boss with Russian and Ukrainian subordinates. They worked well and had a common opinion on the war and who the ultimate losers were. After dinner discussions were all about sharing plans for not going home and the best places to relocate their families. We also had Polish team who seemed to have more of an issue with the Russian guys and a different opinion on who was to blame.

I think Thai Authorities are now seeing the problem, they were just a little overwhelmed with their 'tourist money mindset' excitement in October...........

I had to read and reread that. Still can't figure out if it is Russian corruption or Thai corruption being referred to there. From recent corruption reports I'm gonna guess Immigration police will have to leave.

Yes I believe I saw that news item at the same time. Indonesia obviously has concerns the way I hear they are taking over in Bali....Russians cannot extend their TR/Exempt entry here IIRC.

The correct definition for these gentlemen is not refugees but draft doggers or, for some of them, deserter ... to be precise, refugees would be those arriving from Ukraine.

It's not like in France or the UK, where everybody goes on strike, has a punch up with the police etc etc. In Russia, the slightest glimmer of protest and you're hauled off. The parliament's a complete joke. Full of yes men, like China. There's no opposition. Everybody's in jail that has spoken out against the war. All news is censored. Nobody dares speak out. What would you do? Get the heck out.

Apparently they have, they are no longer able to extend their existing visas. Indonesia is more strict on over stayers too, its 1 million rupiah per day fine if you overstay that's around 2,240 Baht or 65USD

Definitely agree with you. After Covid the Thai Government, TAT,  just wanted higher numbers coming into Thailand and money of course. Maybe now they see there might be a problem?

The confusing OP seems to suggest an extradition treaty with Russia.  Doesn't that imply a lot of the so called refugees are soon to be extradited back to Russia when requested by Putin?
