Up about a third. AC working overtime. 800 to 1150 baht.

Lucky you! Condo, 2 people as well. Two A/C (only daytime) + electric oven, usual bill 2000, this month 2700…

We went from about 1100 to 2300. The AC is working pretty much around the clock, so it's worth it.

We have no AC, no oven. ????

I would have guessed! ????

From 850 baht to 1800 baht, just over double.

2 other family members also had similar results.

I grew up in the same latitude as Pattaya. Last year I barely used the aircon. The last few weeks it's been on non stop, albeit set at 29 degrees. I think this afternoon felt slightly cooler than it has in a while.

Air fryer?

Yesterday people started complaining a lot about electricity bills in our condo.

Today went down and saw 100+ sitting in the lobby... as it's air conditioned...

Inflation does strange things.

We'll let me highjack this tread, I am not in LOS now (have been for a while) my bill has been zero for 18 months now, because the government subsidised because of Covid 19. But apart from that my normal bill is about 1000 baht for 2 months (yes, I am a pensioner) and the government pays some of my bill, In Thailand I used to pay about 1500 baht per month. Yes I do realize electricity costs are high at the eastern seaboard, but I live in the west. So why is the electricity so high in Thailand?

Our bill went from approx 7800 baht to a little over 9000 baht and this is with one less airconditioner being used (I am out of the country and my office shed is shut).

There's a line item on your Thai electric bill labeled 'Ft' which appears to be the factor that's triggered the jump in the most recent electric bill. There's a very good article on the newspaper we can't mention/link that explains this Ft (fuel tarriff) charge and what is (or isn't) being done to address the situation longer term. After reading the article, and sharing with a friend who has has a had a whopping increase on the electric bill at his small apartment complex, I share his opinion as follows.

"EGAT buys high and sells low, and wonders why they are in debt, so the consumer has to make up for their loses. So basically Ft can be anything they want, to make up for their s**t business practices with the 'private company'."

Fundamentally EGAT is broke. The 'private company' cited in the article isn't identified but someone's making a fortune and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) that sets prices, seems to be happily kicking this can down the road.

A lot of people have been speaking highly of how PEA has invested in the infrastructure with long overdue upgrades and improvements in services. For example, in certain areas of Muang Udon Thani, a +15 year low voltage problem was finally resolved last April witha new sub-station and distribution lines, a work that is still in progress. It's a pity that EGAT appears to suffer the same cultural issues as SRT, THAI and those of that ilk.

Fill yer boots!

You need to realize a lot of people on here sold everything they own to come to Thailand. Now that they are here they are living here, they are on a tight budget essentially living paycheck (or retirement) to paycheck. So yes, $50 can make a big difference in those cases.

How many aircons? Our house has 1 or 2 aircons going 24 hours and the last bill was 8000THB.

My units up 35% and net cost per unit up to 4 baht, FT figure went up also. AC working harder, still a fraction of the cost back in UK

Double compared to what?

It is April.

Hottest month of the year. A/C's clunking big time.

Some central provinces into 4th, 5th or 6+ weeks of 40+ degrees every day.

Not unusual. My neighbour says "Fierce!"

Cement/bricks retain heat.

Similar for me. 2170 (March 20 bill), 2970 (April 19 bill). 2 refrigerators, 2 aircons working most of the day/night, plus some extra aircon units I don't normally use much.

My living using electric habits have not changed. The air conditioner is on at night only or when I take an hour nap during the day. all my neighbors have reported the same thing. OK some increase but double?

What the OP fails to mention is if his increased bill is due to an increase charge per unit of electricity, or an increase in usage; it’s probably a combination of the two, so you need to calculate the percentages of both to understand.

  • Popular Post

@Fred Ziffel How many units did you use? Approx 520?

The more you use the higher the price.

For a normal house hold (type 1125 <- see your PEA/MEA bill for this number), the prices are like this

0 - 150 units price per unit 3,2484 THB

151 - 400 units price per unit 4,2218 THB

401+ units price per unit 4,4217 THB

Please NOTE, these prices are WITHOUT the following

1- VAT

2- Ft Charge (Fuel Surcharge)

3- Service Charge (currently discounted to 24,62 THB for a house hold)

NOTE: This calculation is based on House Holds that fall under 1125 (you can see that number on your bill under TYPE.) and thus not for companies etc etc.

Re: FT, the Current Ft charge stands at 0,93430 THB per unit (so almost 1 THB added per Unit (Ft will increase (or not??????) to 0,98430 THB per unit.

Previous Months (incl period March - April) users got a discount on the Ft if they used LESS then 300 Units. Using more then that (300> ) NO discounts.

There is talk that the Ft will be eased, but we just have to wait and see what is going to happen

A good calculator is :

Good luck with that. Cannot in or from Thailand. I tried to get help for funding of my missus's cancer treatment. Some one has to do it in acceptable country and they need to manage it as you cannot access from Thailand.

https://www.mea.or.th/en/aboutelectric/116/280/form/11    Interesting to play around with to see the progressive rates, etc.

Most normal house holds fall under 1.2 (or type 1125 as listed on your Bill)

Edit: You could also look at your electricity meter (if you have the spinning wheel (older type) and NOT the electronic meter)

If it says 5/15 you fall under 1.1 (which is type 1115)

If it says 15/45 or 30/100 then you fall under 1.2 (which is type 1125)
