The operation was initiated after receiving intelligence regarding a substantial illicit gambling ring being operated within a hotel conference room, reported Thai Rath. Upon storming the conference room, the police discovered over 100 Indian tourists engaged in baccarat and various other games. Picture: Thai Rath The scene quickly devolved into chaos as the gamblers attempted to escape in multiple directions, but law enforcement eventually regained control. A total of 84 Indian gamblers (68 men and 16 women), 6 Thai citizens, and 4 Burmese workers were apprehended. The authorities confiscated 4 baccarat tables, 3 poker tables, 8 CCTV cameras, 15,612 chips valued at 209,215,000 rupees (roughly 87,363,790 baht), 92 mobile phones, 16 sets of playing cards, 2 notebooks, 1 money-counting machine, and several hookahs. Picture: Thai Rath Additionally, over 40 credit ledgers were seized, revealing a circulation of more than 500 million rupees (approximately 200 million baht). Ms. Sitranan Kaewlor, 32, the alleged mastermind behind the gambling operation, confessed to renting the hotel for 120,000 baht per day and orchestrating the event. She maintained that the hotel was not implicated and that she had supplied all the gambling equipment and lodgings for the attendees. Ms. Sitranan also acknowledged collaborating with her Indian spouse to transport Indian gamblers directly to Thailand for this occasion, charging an operating fee of 50,000 baht per individual. Major General Kampon Leelapraphorn reported that the raid was carried out in response to an informant's tip regarding the illegal gambling activity. During the operation, the police apprehended a significant number of Indian and Thai gamblers, as well as card dealers. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-05-01 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Reginald Prewster Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Great job that the Royal Thai Police performed here. It is well known that Gambling isn't allowed in Thailand and I hope they get the full bill for their activities including deportation and ban. The good ones in and the bad ones out. I and many other Expats work hard for our earnings abroad or legally with a work permit, so if you can't, stay out of Thailand. 1 1
