Rodjana Kantinan, the spouse of Kriang Kantinan, Deputy Interior Minister and a member of the Pheu Thai Party, is currently under investigation for allegations of malfeasance surrounding a construction project. The project in question unfolded in 2012 during Rodjana’s tenure as the Mayor of Nakhon Ubon Ratchathani Municipality, situated within the Ubon Ratchathani province.

Isranews Agency reported on Monday that Rodjana, along with two other suspects, surrendered themselves to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The report suggested that another individual failed to appear before the NACC, leading the commission to seek an arrest warrant.

Between the years 2009 and 2013, Rodjana faced serious allegations, including the wrongful exercise of purchasing or managing state property, showing a personal vested interest in governmental assets, and the improper execution of her official duties.

In 2021, the NACC previously labelled a project, which involved the construction of a road and a wastewater treatment tank and implicated Rodjana along with three other individuals, as an act of malfeasance. Despite these charges, the Office of the Attorney General has subsequently opted to dismiss the case.

The love of money is the root of all evil. Blame the people not the object.

The whiter the uniform the dirtier it gets.

By the sound of it she is fully qualified to chair a NACC sub committee hire her and any lingering dead friends ????

Corruption is endemic here. Thailand is corrupt top to bottom. It's a way of life for those who have the power to be corrupt and hated albeit accepted by those who don't i.e. the majority.

Absolutely; corruption here, has, for many years, been the very fabric of the infrastructure, rather than the cancer on it, that is should be recognised as. I think however, that things are slowly changing; despite its faults, modern social media can be thanked for making the populace more aware, as can the spotlight being continually shone on different corruptions by the Move Forward Party

…….. There is hope, where once there was nothing but despair.

Oh for sure, the uniform's got guilty written all over it.

Like all things tho the evolution of modern systems will make it harder and harder to commit and then keep covered up these sorts of scams

Thai beaurocrats should be very very scared of AI and it’s ability to pick these scams up through accounting anomalies etc

Wake me up when someone actually gets sent to prison for corruption.

What an amateur! A 20 million baht construction project? That’s bush league stuff. Real grifters in Thailand don’t even bother unless they can take their cut from (multi)billion baht projects.

I remember a deputy transport minister whose house was broken into while he and his wife were out for the evening. Ten thieves broke into their home and made off with about 100 million baht in cash. When they were caught a few days later they claimed that was all they could carry, and that they only took about 10% of the cash that was actually in the house. Which would mean there had been about one billion baht in cash in that deputy minister’s house. Now that’s a serious kickback.

Needless to say that when the police returned to the deputy minister’s house to see if there really was a lot more money lying around there, it had already magically disappeared. There were rumors that this guy wanted to keep all this loot for himself, so apparently a couple of his fellow (deputy)ministers had hired that crew of thieves to steal the money they thought belonged to them as well.
And that’s probably just the tip of the iceberg, as the actual scale of corruption in Thailand is unfathomable.

In this case, it seems like it's quite the family affair... the husband deputy Interior Ministry, his wife, the accused ex mayor of Nakhon Ubon Ratchathani, and the current mayor the wife of their son.

"The current mayor of the Nakhon Ubon Ratchathani Municipality is the wife of Worasit Kantinan, a Pheu Thai MP candidate for Ubon Ratchathani and Kriang’s [the deputy Interior Minister's] son, Bangkok Post reported."

The new government is hardly out of the gate, and the corruption cases are already piling up against a variety of figures, apart from the previously convicted heroin dealer/ politician earlier named to the Cabinet.

"Another returnee is Thammanat Prompao, who had served as deputy agriculture minister despite being convicted and jailed in Australia in 1994 in connection with heroin smuggling. He is the new agriculture minister."

And now add to the list:

https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-education-ministers-appointment-in-question-over-red-bull-heir-scandal

"The recent appointment of Education Minister, Police General Permpoon Chidchob, has been challenged by the Move Forward Party (MFP), following allegations of his involvement in aiding Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, the heir to the Red Bull fortune, to evade prosecution."

Start at the top and work your way down. Corruption will be found. The higher up the ladder the more money they make. Everyone in Thailand knows this.

I'm not surprised by any means... But just wanted to point out, all these folks mentioned above are part of (or affiliated with parties belonging to) the current Pheu Thai-led coalition government.

Led by a former prime minister convict who's currently NOT serving his now-reduced one-year prison sentence for corruption in an actual prison.

And so it goes.....

Yep. Seems the other part of the coalition i.e. the military are protected.

Any politician here, or a close family member, has to be presumed guilty, until proven innocent. The corruption level is staggering.

Not sure the anti corruption committee is up to investigating this. They themselves are highly suspect.

The anti corruption committee which is in and of itself corrupt. Everyone with power is corrupt from those who cannot be mentioned, to politicians, to school directors, to immigration and police, to company directors, to local autorities, to doctors, to ........................................... . It's an endless list which covers the entirety of Thai society and the entirety of Thai society knows this.

What many of us really want to see is a thorough investigation into the dirty dealings of Prayuth, Prawit, Anutin, Big Joke, Phiphat and the top 200 generals, plus the crony senators.

Yes, I know I am dreaming again. Only in a parallel universe. We know they are above the law.

And that is exactly why the winner of the election did not win. The minority corrupt/elitist/royalist/conservative religious are soles will continue to protect themselves and their fortunes by whatever means.
