“Let’s play it by ear.”

 

Yes, you heard right. In a recent interview at the UN General Assembly in New York, Thailand’s new Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, indicated his willingness to involve the former Prime Minister, then fugitive, now inmate, Thaksin Shinawatra in the government once he is released from prison.

 

The interview was with Bloomberg Television’s Haslinda Amin. “I believe he has value to add to the government and to the people of Thailand.”

 

The new PM says he’s determined to revitalise Thailand’s economy, which has underperformed recently compared to its SE Asian neighbours following nearly a decade of military-dominated rule.

And I thought that he is so sick that he has to stay in a hospital all the time.

I think it's more likely that Thaksin saw a role for Srettha. Srettha is indebted to Thaksin. Best to remember who is the puppeteer and who is the puppet.

Should of just dropped all charges instead of this clown show.

For getting no jail time, I bet his role will be to whip his Issan followers in line with the current government.

That should pretty much stop all protests in the future, and ensure many many years of "happy" military control..

I figured he would be exempt from politics, boy was I wrong..

Would he really want to get back into the affray at his age? Surely he has enough money and wouldn't want to risk upsetting the apple cart again.

Nothing to do with money. People with a billion do things out of purpose. He wants purpose. 

My assumption is that he has a direct communications channel upwards. That may be useful.

He's ALREADY out of prison, and has been since the night he arrived back in Thailand!

 

Well he has more intelligence than most Ms, more business sense, any many global contacts.

He had already more than enough money when he started with politics about 20 years ago. At that time he told everybody that he is so rich that this will guarantee that he is an honest politician because he doesn't need more money.

And some people even believed him. Amazing Thailand. 

 No need to wait for him to get out of jail because he got out of jail a couple of hours after he arrived there and has been busy running the country from behind the scenes ever since.

555. Yes I remember the PR messaging TRT put out that about him being so rich he didn't need to rip off the taxpayers like all other politicians. How wrong that proved to be.

Would love to see him in power. He killed 10 thousand drug dealers just because he could and now the Nigerian scum are building up again

Come on, it was just an honest mistake. ???? 

It's impossible to speak out against the decision to reduce TS's prison sentence. Further clemency will also go unchallenged, for the same reason.

 

News of the investigation into Srettha's crooked land deal has suddenly gone quiet, and Chuwit is silent since being threatened with a defamation suit. 

 

All is back to normal in this LoS.

I thought criminals convicted by a Thai court could not be part of the government?
