Three Patong tuk-tuk drivers have been charged after assaulting a foreign tourist in a dispute over the fare. The Phuket News reports that the incident happened outside a resort on Rath-U-Thit 200 Pi Road, in the early hours of Sunday, October 8.

A video of the altercation was posted online and Patong Police have confirmed that 3 drivers have been charged with “jointly causing harm to another person”. The assailants have been named as 29-year-old Mr Anusorn, who police tracked down through CCTV footage, 26-year-old Abhisit, and 28-year-old Nasrallah.

Anusorn was the first one picked up and taken to Patong Police Station, where he then provided officers with the identities of the other two drivers.

You may add motorbikes as one of the worst modes of transportation in Thailand.

Three Taxi Drivers Attack Saudi Arabian Tourist in Patong, Phuket Over Fee Dispute
By Goongnang Suksawat

Patong – Three Tuk Tuk taxi drivers were charged with bodily assault after attacking a Saudi Arabian tourist in Patong over a taxi fee dispute.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that a video clip of Tuk Tuk taxi drivers attacking a foreign tourist in front of a hotel on the Ratch Uthit 200 Pi Road in Patong had gone viral on social media on Sunday (October 8th).

The Patong Police checked CCTV footage nearby and initially identified one Tuk Tuk taxi driver only as Mr. Anusorn, 29. Two other Tuk Tuk taxi drivers who were involved in the attack were later identified as Mr. Apisit, 26, and Mr. Nussarunlor, 28.

On Sunday morning (October 8th) at 6:15 A.M., Mr. Anusorn picked up the male Saudi Arabian tourist from Soi Saen Sabai on the Ratch Uthit 200 Pi Road. They were heading to the Kalim Circle in Patong and had agreed on a 200 baht taxi fee.

When they arrived at the supposed destination, however, the tourist said the area was not where he wanted to go.

They were beating up tourists when I first came here to Patong in 2001 , nothing has changed in 22 years , always 3 or 4 of them onto 1 tourist.

I can understand the tourist refusing to pay the extra as it was probably the Tuk Tuk driver who got the hotel wrong in the first place.

Also if they started the journey at the top of Soi Sansibi then it would have made no difference to the distance traveled has they would have had to go all the way along Rat-U-Thit road and then all the way along beach road anyway to get back to the beginning of Rat-U-Thit road to find the correct hotel in any case.

Naah, have good  memories of my younger years when to tuk tuks where used once or twice day bring back fresh "pushy" to my hotel. The Patong flat fee was then THB 200, what the booboom?

If you have been out partying and got more than a few drinks, what other choice do you have, than to use a Tuk-tuk? This exact problem with Tuk-tuk and Taxi mafias have existed for decades and is fully accepted by the governor of Phuket. Just do like millions of others - Stay away from this dump.

Srettha is looking to ' normalize ' ties with Saudi Arabia , he wants their tourist's money ...

He should charge the 3 tuk tuk drivers with " tarnishing the reputation " of Thailand .

Life in prison ...?

Many tourists use them—how would they know any different, plus options are few? Most will also stay out after midnight. Strange comment all round, although I agree with the last part, in particular regards Phuket. Tuk-tuk drivers around Patong area are mouthbreathers. It would be nice if this new smiling donkey PM did something tangible by publicly removing that scum from society and then tackling the soi dogs.

Another injury. Good reason to increase the tourist fee?

Sadly as usual Thai Face and Egos lost or bruised. If guilty should lose licences to operate .

Licence? You think they bother with holding that?

Just admit it. The taxi mafias are more powerful than the police and they always have been above the law.

I never use a tuk tuk. They are always overpriced and unreasonable to negotiate with. They tend to look for naive tourists.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't there been several incidents like this in the past as in just about every month?

Another nail in the coffin for Thailand's slowly eroding tourist industry. Yes I'm fully aware of that the numbers are increasing but maybe what we're seeing is a dead cat bounce? Just wishful thinking.
