webfact Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 In Phuket, the body of a foreign male tourist was found brutally stabbed to death inside a hotel room. The decomposing state of the body suggested he had been dead for 2-3 days. Notably, two passports were discovered, identifying him as a dual national of the United States and Costa Rica. On October 30th, police and forensics teams inspected the crime scene at a hotel in the Thalang district. The victim, lying in a pool of blood, had suffered four stab wounds to his neck, reported Thai Rath. Nearby, a bloody knife approximately 25 cm long was found. Nothing appeared stolen, as belongings including a laptop, iPad, two mobile phones, and 6,000 Thai Baht in cash remained untouched. Additionally, substances resembling illegal drugs were uncovered. Hotel management reported that the deceased, identified as Mr. Daniel James Artus Jerez, 35, had been residing at the hotel since August 30th. His behavior changed over time, appearing thinner, more reclusive, and consuming heavy alcohol, indicating potential stress. The last sighting of him was on October 26th.
