A British citizen died on Saturday when he attempted to base jump from the 29th floor of a condominium in Pattaya but his parachute failed to deploy.

Pattaya police say that the victim, 33-year-old Nathy Odinson, owned the Nathy’s Sky Photography website and asked a friend to film his jump from the condominium as online video content.

His parachute, which was still attached to him, failed to open, causing him to crash into a tree and then to the ground.

An employee at the condominium reportedly told the police that the victim had previously visited the condominium and yesterday he parked his car, took a lift to the 29th floor and jumped.

British BASE Jumper Dies In Condo Plunge After Parachute Fails To Open

A BRITISH BASE jumper died after his parachute failed to open upon leaping from the 29th floor of a Pattaya condominium with his plunge to death at 7.30 p.m. yesterday filmed by a friend waiting for him on the ground floor, Naewna newspaper said today (Jan. 28).

The body of the British daredevil, Mr. Nathy Odinson, 33, who Mail Online said comes from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, was found by police and rescuers near the exit of Building B of the condominium complex at Na Kluea subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, with his blue parachute next to him.

“BASE” is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennae (referring to radio masts), spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs), according to Wikipedia.

Security guard Mr. Kanet Chansong, 33, said he heard the sound of something falling and thought it was a branch that had broken and hit the ground. Moments later a woman passing by screamed and when he turned to have a look and saw the dead British man he quickly called the police.

These guys are incredibly brave to Base Jump. The only problem is that as humans, we make mistakes, and one mistake for them is normally deadly. RIP.

British Social Media Influencer Parachutes from Pattaya Condo and Fatally Hits The Ground in Tragic Accident
By Tanakorn Panyadee

Pattaya — A 33-year-old British man tragically lost his life when the parachute he was using malfunctioned after jumping from a condominium complex in Pattaya.

The tragedy took place on Saturday, January 27th, at an unspecified condominium complex in the Naklua sub-district of the Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Pattaya police and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene following a report received around 7:30 PM.

There, authorities found the lifeless body of a 33-year-old British national (name withheld pending family permission) sprawled on the ground near the condominium’s exit. The victim had suffered fatal injuries while clutching a blue parachute, which the police suspected he had deployed in a failed attempt to slow his descent. Authorities covered the body with a white sheet before transporting him to a nearby hospital.

During an interview with the condominium clerk, 33-year-old Mr. Kanet, it was revealed that the victim and his friends had gained unauthorized access to the premises, parking their car outside before scaling the building for a daring parachute descent.

I'm wondering who packed his parachute.   Fortunately for me, when I was in an Army Airborne Company, professionals  packed the 5 that I used.

Very unfortunate.

R.I.P.

Many do base jumping check their chute many times. The job of the jumper. Why it failed who knows. You can say RIP but he knew the risk everytime he done it

I'm an amateur pilot and don't know much about BASE jumping or skydiving, but the article says the chute failed to open.  Yet from the photos, it appears that it DID open and thus deployed, leaving me to think that he simply failed to "catch" the air he hoped for in only 29 floors.  Who knows, the air currents may have conspired against him this day.  Too bad.

RIP Dear Sir!

RIP Dear Sir!

The parachute in the photos of the body is a blue or purple. The open one is green. Probably a stock photo used for the story. The media should make note of that but they often do not.

I have had quite a few “jumps” in Pattaya on different floor levels and survived

A person would fall 290 feet in under 4 seconds. Is that enough time for a parachute to deploy AND slow you down.

Strangely, my living-room chair feels a lot more comfortable today....

RIP Dear Sir!

I was thinking the same thing... 29 floors up is high... but is it enough for a parachute to fully open and then have time to slow you down?

Some nasty "wounds" though,I bet..?

Minimum height is 300ft.......he was short 7 feet......

RIP.  However the security at the condo should  be a concern to residents.  Parked his car and went to the 29th floor without permission or security.

er, not brave. there are brave people in the world, individuals taking life threatening risks for 'likes' on social media are not brave.

Yeah.....I just can't feel sorry for people who get killed doing profoundly stupid stuff.

Generally, a minimum safe altitude to jump is 2500 feet and most jumpers open their chutes at 2000 feet. This guy jumped from about 300 feet (judging about 10 feet per floor x 29 floors). Unauthorized entry into the building. Trying to get likes on his pathetically external locus of control personality for his online persona.

He's (was) an idiot. I hope he wasn't married with kids. I feel sorry for his parents.

I would call it brave. Good that no other persons were injured. 🙏
