Thailand –A British teacher who allegedly took away a minor from her guardians and molested her in Phuket many years ago was arrested in Chiang Mai.

The Immigration Bureau told the Phuket Express that this week they arrested Mr. Taylor (alias), 38, a British national in the Mueang Chiang Mai district. The arrest warrant had been issued by the Phuket Provincial Court last month on January 12th.

 

He is being accused of taking away a minor aged more than 15-years-old but not more than 18-years-old from her parents or guardian without proper reason for obscene purposes. He was taken back to the Chalong Police Station in Phuket.

 

The arrest came after a period in 2014 -2015 when Mr. Taylor, who lived in Thailand, worked as a teacher at an international school in Phuket.

An incident on two occasions which happened nearly 10 years ago in Thailand. The accused has continued to live in Thailand, has been reporting to Immigration every 90 days for 10 years so not difficult to find him on a computer. I am not sure why it takes 4 officers to arrest him or hold a press conference..

Hardly breaking news.

it’s sort of the process many civilized countries follow. 

Seems to me he didn't expect to be prosecuted after 10 years. The young woman will be now 26 years old.

The incident happened in Phuket. He has been doing his 90 day reports in Chiang Mai. Obviously the police records from Phuket ten years ago were held as paper files.  

I would guess that Phuket's police records have now been digitised into a central RTP database.

So after the first time after that, when he filed his 90 day report in Chiang Mai, it flagged up the Phuket incident. 

If, as it appears, all Thailand's police records are being scanned into a central database, we can expect a lot more articles like this in future.

This is not a straight forward case of sexual abduction of a minor. Any man taking a younger lady as a companion  take heed.

I read that and did not take it as conclusive proof that the incident occurred during those years. It is implied that it occurred while he was teaching in those years, and I guess that is what is meant to be the case, but the wording was ambiguous.

In a different newspaper report, it was said that the parents waited until the girl finished her education as they did not want her to be distracted.

As you say - strange story.

There are some more details in the original article.  The girl was a foreign student, not Thai.  They seem to have slept together on two occasions, with the exact dates specified.  After the school and parents found out he was fired.  Although the police were notified (later) he was not arrested at that time.

 

One has to wonder what the young woman - now about 25 or 26 - feels about this coming to light now.

So he continued to live in Thailand and they only just arrested him?

Or he was out of Thailand and just returned??

not an excuse, still wrong and illegal, what would you think if it was your daughter?

What some of the moralists here don't seem to get is that the "allegedly" obscene acts are per se not the legal problem here - but not having the consent of her parents to be with her is. 

It must have been very hard for the police to locate, find and arrest this guy during around 10 years time, as he according to the link and real article has been living in Chiang Mai all the time.

How has he been living in Chiang Mia still teaching?

10 years have passed. He has been arrested before and nothing happened again. So assumably this guy had a good scare and learned a lesson. Why make a big deal about this again? She was 16 already ...
