Im suprised you didnt get in with 1 remaining land border bounce still left in 12 months. 

I dont think it matters which country you enter from. 

Whatever the reason for your rejection will be in the system now. 

You better aquire a fresh visa from a thai embassy in Vietnam, or Cambodia /Loas, then you can re enter with peace of mind.

But isn't getting the "proper visa" like driving on the right side of the road? OP has a "long standing GF" so there is a proper visa for that purpose, if he can't meet the requirements it is a lucky escape for the said GF. The system works.

That depends on your nationality. Surprisingly, many "Western" countries including Australia and the US still don't get visa exempt entry, but a good number of European countries do.

That's a ridiculous comparison.

 

Driving on the wrong side of the road, you could get hit by oncoming traffic within seconds. It's just plain wrong and foolish right from the start.

 

Not so with visa exempt entries. Surely a number of visa exempt entries is acceptable, whether you visit your girlfriend or not. Leaving aside that you need to meet her in the first place, maybe while holidaying in Thailand. When exactly you cross the line into "proper visa required" territory is the question, and there's no single right answer.

If all else fails - book an online appointment with Thai Embassy in Vientiane, get there, meet the requirements, and you're more or less guaranteed a tourist visa.

 

1. 3 Months Bank statements, evidencing >20,000 thb balance.

 

2. Proof of address in Thailand, or hotel booking.

 

3. Filled out form + 1,000 thb.

 

Collect after 2 working days.

 

Cross over at friendship bridge, Nongkhai, then home to relax...

If you don't want or need to work: proper Education, Investment or Marriage

Siem Reap is my fallback in any situation like this as it's so close to Thailand. I'm assuming you have an ATM card with you with access to money. If you don't have an ATM card or credit card with you (never travel like that) hole up and ask your bank to express one to you in Cambodia using the guesthouse address. Often sites like Airbnb or Agoda will hold your credit card info in the system so you could book a month anywhere in an emergency even if you don't have your card. If you have no money take a bath in the river and check into a guesthouse where you pay at the end and have the ATM card expressed over Asap. If you have no phone ask to use the guesthouse phone, or if not sneak down and use it while people are sleeping or tell them to put calls on your tab. If you have no passport go directly to your embassy, declare an emergency loss of passport and get a letter that the new one is on the way and use that to check in to the guesthouse.

Reading along, it seems the OP left his cash and cards in Thailand with his GF, he's running low on pages in his passport, and he's not sure they'll let him back into Vietnam to even go to get a visa.  He's got an extensive history with Thailand (including a long term GF) and this is the first time in 20 years this has happened.  (I hope I haven't conflated posts from other guys)

 

I don't have any advice for the OP.  But I would point out that this could be a great cautionary tale for anyone in a similar situation.  When you fly out, be prepared for contingencies like a difficult re-entry.  That means backup cash, cards, extra socks and underwear, etc.

I wish the OP well, because I have met a lot of good guys whose visa loopholes slammed shut since the 2014 coup when the rules (and enforcement) really started tightening up.  It was sad to see them have to leave their life in Thailand behind.

Exactly, at one time in my life I was under 50, had a very good job in EU that allowed me to travel over long periods ( seasonal). There was no other option for me to stay without extensions or border hops, and there are still not today. Also, for those over 50 , not everyone wants a retirement visa if they are still working /have business in another country. Lots here seem to think that some are working illegally when they are not.  And as said , there is no legal limit to entries by air. So if there were a limit, like with land entries, this would not be a problem.

Probably so, but the guy came here for advice, not for judgment and not for sympathy.  Besides, he seems to be contrite, and hopefully has learned a valuable lesson.  And maybe some other guys can learn from his experience.

 

As much as it embarrasses me, I've had a few visa faux pas in my travels over the past 25 years or so.

Right. There is a big difference between staying the full length of a VE entry then exiting and entering in one day for another VE to stay the full length again (rinse, repeat), as opposed to coming VE for the weekend two or three times every month, or coming VA for 30 days two or three times a year. And this is not lost on IO's (in general). That said, I believe most people here know what a "proper visa" is for their case. It is just that sometimes that visa/extension is not available to them.

The g/f can visit you in Vietnam. She can bring your stuff. Have a holiday. Then fly home and get a proper visa. The times for multiple easy visa runs are over.

If the OP's important stuff is in Thailand at a place where he cohabits with a long-time girlfriend, then the very, very obvious conclusion is that he is not a tourist.

 

That and being a self-confessed visa runner with a 20-year success rate that appears to have just been nipped in the bud.

The point is that Thailand for some unknown reason does not have rules in regards to visa exempt via air. 

 

Yes max 2 visa exempt via land per calendar year is a rule. 

Very simple clear rule.

Why not have a similar rule for visa exempt entries via AIR. 

It's not rocket science. 

 

All of these posts re "get the correct visa" are nonsense and off topic. 

 

The OP is currently in poor situation looking for suggestions.
